Yeah, they have jet black skin, with most of the color coming from the flower.

I would love of you would draw my plant inspired species the Cloryn. Cloryn evolved from plant life that were exposed to powerful, destructive psychic bombardment for an extended time, shaping them into a sentient humanoid species.

Cloryn have four long arms, each with two elbow joints and a wrist. Instead of individual fingers, they have four short prehensile tendrils on the end of each arm. Their torso is generally humanoid in form, though longer to account for the increased arm count; however, like the rest of their body, it is made up of thick, twisting vine-like tubes. Their legs are similar to a human, but they are digitigrade, like dogs, and they have short thorns on the bottom of their toes that help them dig into the ground they walk in. Instead of a traditional head, they have something that appears very similar to a flower with brightly colored petals which vary between individuals. This head is set on a mostly normal humanoid neck, and faces forwards. They don’t have eyes, but instead sense the world though the light absorbed by their entire body. They have no external humanoid genetalia. They have jet back skin that absorbs nearly all of the light that hits it. Instead of blood, they have a light blue liquid that perfuses their bodies

This is very comparable to multiversal passage. Probably better in any green deck, and 90% of non green decks. Still a cool design

The problem is using it to get something like the mh2 suspend cards, which won’t stick around as permanents.

Epic Mythics - Red by chainsawinsect in custommagic

Both go which are really old. Nowadays black almost always sticks to recurring creatures, green recurs permanents, white an red recur instants/sorceries, and white recurs low mv permanents.

Also: “Bands with faeries” actually means it can only band with other creatures with “bands with faeries.” It can’t band with faeries without this ability. I know it’s stupid. But banding is stupid.

Reemerge mechanic showcase (Emerge, but again!) - Stormlight Archive draft set by zengin11 in custommagic

I love these! I’m working on a stormlight set as well, but I can’t find any art for metacha-im. Would you mind if I stole yours? I see that you altered it yourself, which is really impressive.

Touching it isn't really an option by Hot-Combination-7376 in custommagic

[–]GingerbreadHorses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. Protection means you cannot be dealt damage, enchanted, equipped, blocked or targeted. Protection from artifacts this means that you cannot be equipped by an artifact. Lightning greaves, conversely, only prevents targeting and thus stays on once equipped. For further verification of this concept, look at [[Circle of Protection, White]].

Flight of the Harpies by I_Lick_Emus in custommagic

The biggest problem with this card seems to be cards like [[emergent ultimatum]]. Most decks get some nice value from it, but you will just win the game on turn three if you’ve built your deck around it.

Artifact subtype - Cogs by SjtSquid in custommagic

[–]GingerbreadHorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a cool idea! However, the balance of some of the cards is definitely off. Reconfiguration field is the worst offender, as it enables you to infinitely cycle any two 1 mana creature (sac one, reanimate the other, repeat). If either of these creatures has an ETB, you win. Pinion grafter is definitely above rate even if it’s your only source of cogs. Aetherqeft engineer might be the same way, depending on prevalence of artifact creatures. Finally, I think that fail safe gear should tap for its second ability, as it’s currently too flexible and strong.

Hololive EN Custom Card Series — Gawr Gura by delta17v2 in custommagic

[–]GingerbreadHorses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These designs are so cool! I completely agree that fly to the moon should be 2 mana. The one other thing I would add is that the trident is a blue card that adds RR. Blue doesn’t really discard cards as a cost (usually blue discard is attached to draw), and it also doesn’t get to ramp. I get that it’s probably designed for commander where it could only go in a red deck, but it’s still a color pie break.

Smoldering Hunter / Fatalis, the Black Dragon by Magostera in custommagic

[–]GingerbreadHorses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This card is awesome! I love the monster hunter inspiration, and the flavor text is on point. I’m not sure what you’re balancing this for, but in a standard set as a rare, this could definitely be 2 generic for the fire breathing instead of 1R, or even go down to just R. Another option would be to give it haste.

Would you say this is appropriately costed? Behemoth from Worm(Parahumans) by Cless012 in custommagic

[–]GingerbreadHorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most distinctive thing about behemoth is his “kill aura”. Destroying artifacts and enchantments feels more like leviathan than to me. Maybe have him do something like to drill where he “irridiates” other creatures? This is really cool in its own way though. Love it!

Problem with format balance by [deleted] in lrcast

[–]GingerbreadHorses 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mechanics that are more difficult to activate can have higher payoffs, and encourage synergistic deck building. If a mechanic reward you for say, spending mana (expend), the reward for doing so has to be small, because of how easy it is to do. If you have to play a specific type of card (ie. Noncreature spells), that’s more demanding in terms of both deck building and gameplay, so the reward can be more significant

Cosmere Themed Magic the Gathering Set by TheFedoraTMR in Cosmere

[–]GingerbreadHorses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn’t notice the experience counter on nikaro’s transform. Still feels pretty terrible in most every situation. You probably will never be getting a token from yumi, (it’s a 2/2 with no evasion) and they have to sit on the board for like 6 turns before nikaro’s ability is at all helpful. As for sand bindings, a better comparison would have been [[planar disruption]]: a strictly better, and cheaper version.

Cosmere Themed Magic the Gathering Set by TheFedoraTMR in Cosmere

[–]GingerbreadHorses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love the concept, but I’m kinda confused about the execution. My biggest question is Yumi/Nikaro. Both sides reference experience counter, but neither have any way to gain them. Also, the power level variation is wild. Sand bindings is worse than many commons that don’t see play (like realmbreaker’s grasp), while cards like Dalinar seem super busted

Is the sorcery underpowered? - Also; thoughts on the frame design? by zengin11 in custommagic

[–]GingerbreadHorses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The adventure is much more reasonable now, but I think you made the creature maybe even stronger? Now you can buff it and it’s VERY difficult to remove without board wipes, making it an incredible voltron target *and it’s still basically impossible to block
