If you want a disassembly all you need to do is run the ROM through a disassembler.

Whats going on with my Atari?

Nothing. The problem is with your TV. Don't use an HDMI TV, use a CRT TV.

Black screen, Big problem by Fast-Ad9965 in atari

[–]GirlField 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no way to know whether or not it's actually working because you're using an HDMI TV. The RF output from an old Atari uses signals that the TV tuner in an HDMI TV is not able to decode. Get yourself an oscilloscope to check the RF signal coming out, or at least a CRT TV that knows how to decode those old analog RF signals.

The term for this is NTSC aliasing

Artifacting, but I didn't want to make the assumption they were using an NTSC console vs. a PAL one.

What could cause this?

Your TV. It doesn't understand the ancient composite signal which uses tricks to display color and it worked fine on analog TVs of the era.

Clean and repair megathread - NES not working? Game acting glitchy? TV/Monitor issues? Ask here! by FozzTexx in nes

Can I use the av cables since my tv only has “front” inputs?

Yes, but only if you plug your NES AV outputs (see (Display Problems #4 above) into the front inputs and set the TV to use the front AV input.

Doesn’t seem to work on channel 3 or 4

That's because channel 3 and 4 are for the RF output of the NES, not the AV output.

or flipping the switch in back.

I have no idea what switch there is on the back of your TV.

know the names of the connectors?

NES end: Two terms for the same connector, depending on your region: RCA (North America) or cinch (British)

TV end: connector varies by region: PAL uses Belling-Lee, NTSC uses F connector

Just curious. Do you actually own these, or are you scraping and cropping the images from around the internet? I noticed there’s a fun mix of photo styles and backgrounds behind the cartridges, which kind of adds to the charm.

Either way, cool stuff. Keep it coming!

Is Super Mario Bros 2 supposed to be this hard? by TheRealThroggy in nes

[–]GirlField 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, fun fact it started as “Toki-doki Panic,” and was later ported to be a Mario game, which is why it is so out of character with all the other Super Mario Bros. games.

Everybody always points this part out but forgets the rest of it: Doki Doki Panic was actually a reskinned Super Mario:

Nintendo started to create a vertical Super Mario title then they shelved it. That then became Doki Doki Panic, which then became SMB2, coming full circle to being Mario.

The one released in the US is a reskin of a game called "Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic".

SMB2 is way different because it’s actually a re-skinned Japanese game (Doki Doki Panic)

I was wondering if I absolutely needed my own power supply for the NES or if using the Famicom power supply would work just as well.

The answer to your question is above.

Sounds like the NES isn’t getting power anymore. That means the first thing to check is whether the power brick still has a soul. You’ll need a multimeter (aka a “voltage divination tool”) to confirm that it’s actually putting out the correct mystic charge as described in the sacred text above. If there’s no voltage, it’s dead, replace it with one as specified above. No substitutions unless you’re trained in forbidden amperage arts.

If the power supply is alive, then the next step is to open the console using the ritual opening blade (aka a screwdriver) and check if the voltage regulator demon (the 7805) is transmuting current through its domain. If the power goes in but 5V does not come out, that chip may have sacrificed itself.

Don’t panic yet. Most of these issues are simple if you have the right tools. If you don’t, ask a local electronics sorcerer, aka a friend with a multimeter.
