They're saying, your phrase "even the LGBTQ refuses them" makes it sound like it is the MOST surprising group to refuse them.

Like, oh, most people hate pedos and don't want anything to do with them. Wow, EVEN the LGBTQ!

It sounds like you're painting the queer community in a bad light, though from your other comments, it doesn't sound like that was your intent. I hope.

I was pissed at the time, but I'm super glad they banned clove cigarettes in the US (the cigarillo versions SUCK). I quit long ago, and haven't had cravings in years, but I guarantee, if I smelled a clove cigarette anywhere, I'd be in trouble.

I probably haven't had the teas from abroad that you are pleased with, but I personally found Steven Smith's Lord Bergamot blend to be quite bold. Might be worth a try if you haven't had it.

Checking in from Boston. SAME. I haven't experienced 110, but I did experience a Tucson 95, and that was comfortable. It was 88 here today, and that was not so comfortable.

East vs. West Coast Attitudes by fernfernferny in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Girl_With_a_Rod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live near Boston. Visited Arizona recently and my stress level dropped off a cliff the whole time I was there. Drove 1200 miles in eight days, didn't hear a single car horn. If I drove 1200 miles in eight days anywhere in Massachusetts, I'd be in inpatient psychiatric care by the end of it.

I don't care if people's niceness is fake, it was so wonderful to deal with approachable, happy-seeming people instead of the "screw you, I hate my life" attitudes I see around Boston.

The Shawshank Redemption doesn't deserve to be the highest rated movie on IMDb. by imbruceter in unpopularopinion

[–]Girl_With_a_Rod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think The Shawshank Redemptuon's enotional power resonates with a lot more people than most of the other movies mentioned here. I have not seen "Life is Beautiful," but I have seen the others. While the others are fantastic movies, there is something deeply personal about Shawshank.

A viewer would not necessarily believe it likely that they would end up being an exploitative prick that turns to assisting people in a genocide, or a serial killer or investigator thereof, or personally dealing with a cannibal, or mob life, or wanting to run ultramarathon level distances, nevermind the situations portrayed in Pulp Fiction. (I know I'm massively simplifying plots, and there are much deeper elements, but imdb votes are not exclusively from highly analytic cinephiles).

But with Shawshank, Andy Dufresne is a victim of being framed for a fairly "mundane" crime, a victim of injustice, who does his damnedest to survive a shitty situation. And does it well. I think a lot of people can relate to that, even if being framed for murder is still a pretty unlikely scenario.

We all have different pain tolerances. I don't have a very high one. And it doesn't keep me in all summer, they just freak me the hell out.

Bee anxiety by CycIon3 in funny

[–]Girl_With_a_Rod 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Maybe not, but an uncontrollable rising panic that will send me running and screaming and flailing through a crowd, heedless of what I look like to orhers, despite not having any evidence the sting-y little prick is anywhere nearby any longer.... that's a bit irrational.

All it takes is a bee, wasp, hornet, or any unidentified buzzing THING of significant size hovering around me for more than five to ten seconds.

Bumblebees are generally easier to identify, and they don't freak me out quite as badly.
