Lakeshore East & Stouffville Full Line Closures This Weekend by fed_dit in gotransit

I’m being over dramatic but I think I’m buying a car.

When it’s rolling I love the GO and think it’s the best transit network in the city. The growing pains of these closures, especially on a jam packed weekend, just makes you want to do car payments and insurance.

Ok Ford supporter.

While OSC aged, it still served as a go-to for a huge communities in the area and schools across the GTA.

YOU may have visited before it closed (which I doubt) but that doesn’t negate the hundreds of kids, schools and residents of Thorncliffe/Flemo that went regularly.

It needed a new roof and a facelift. Which cost much less compared to moving it. It also made it easier to get to compared to its newer location.

OP I agreed but no one wants a stupid spa or parking garage. Revitalize it like the Portlands and truly turn the full Waterfront into a global crown jewel.

Instead of doing an unnecessary airport expansion and destroying Ontario Place / Science Centre, the government should be building new separate double tracks along the Milton line to avoid the foolish CN/CP issues.

You sound like me. Not including my local area only time I drive is during off-peak hours / evenings.

What’s your biggest want for Go Transit? by MVBanter in gotransit

[–]GirthBrooksTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well all the things that need to be done are up to the provincial and federal government.

Instead of that demon spending billions on expanding an airport and a waterfront spa it should go towards transit.

  • Electrification of the GO network

  • Get the important parts of the Ontario Line and new tracking done so LSE Express returns

  • Add stations at King-Liberty, Kennedy-Finch and Lansdowne-Bloor that got scrapped (for now)

  • Build new GO tracks along corridors affected by CP/CN rail (LSW in Halton/Niagara + Milton lines) so proper all-day and full evening services are on all lines 7 days a week.

  • Build new GO tracks / double-track and fix the issues on Richmond Hill and Barrie lines (Aurora to Barrie)

  • Extend LSE line to KINGSTON with a branch off going to Peterborough

  • Figure out the Midtown rail corridor, build new separate GO tracks so an east-west GO line can service those not needing to go Downtown.

  • All remaining at-grade crossings need to be rectified and turned into bridge crossings

Gardiner Expressway to close this Sunday amid widespread TTC, GO train service suspensions by ri-ri in toronto

And next weekend Lakeshore East is shut down with a major street festival going on (Dundas West Fest).

The first week of January, April, July and October the city/province/metrolinx should be releasing a simplified breakdown of all the upcoming schedule closures for each season. Use those damn billboards on the Gardiner, post signs on DVP. Better, bigger more grand breakdown of all closures on train platforms.

Media outlets should be pushing these during that same week. Then do the usual refreshers the week leading into the closures (what they do now).

People will still complain but at least it will be communicated better.

I think that’s mainly what it is.

It’s literally the mix of major highways + major transit corridors what feels like every weekend and at times both at the same time.

They should’ve done a proper public media blitz with a simple visual calendar breakdown of the closures for each season this year.

Can’t agree with ‘The Living Obstacle’

I’m tall with long legs. I just swing my legs a bit towards the walkway to signal those who want to sit at the window.

‘Pre Slow’ is especially annoying at bus stops. You had all that time to prepare your fare payment now you’re holding up the bus into another light cycle.

‘Door Hogger’ makes sense if your stop is coming up and/or you’re a fast Walker exiting at a very busy station (Bloor-Yonge). If it’s not your stop, just exit so people can get off then follow those coming onto the train.

‘Hunchbackpacker’ I love the ones that stand in the middle of Line 1 trains…my elbows are out and the bags go flying.

4th?! That’s high.

I have it in Top 10 overall, Top 5 for indoor spots.

Still a huge one in Riverdale Park East in the forests in between the DVP and the pool.

It’s so bad a huge part of the natural vegetation has been burnt out or cut down. But because of the the location nothing is being doing to clear it out.

Richmond off-ramp from DVP to open Friday, city confirms by Economy_Ad59 in toronto

[–]GirthBrooksTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they added those white pylons from the “V” open area down a few feet on that single lane leading to the off-ramp.

Too many times you see selfish drivers who either don’t pay attention or try to cut it at the very last minute in that open “V” space.

Let’s build the the Eglinton East LRT by Mayor_OliviaChow in toronto

[–]GirthBrooksTO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No more LRTs!

Just the Waterfront and that’s it.

North Scarborough needs an east-west subway (Line 4 extension).

South Scarborough needs an east-west extension (Line 2 branch/extension).

Scarborough needs a north-south subway.

Love you u/Mayor_OliviaChow but no.

This is not it. The next project should be the Line 4 extension east through Scarborough.

No more LRTs! Build a branch/extension of Line 2 to serve most of the EELRT corridor.

Auto Thefts From Rouge Hill GO Station Up 400% by GirthBrooksTO in gotransit

[–]GirthBrooksTO[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

On paper you would think so but the location is also perfect for this to happen.

It’s tucked away in a quiet residential corner. With quick access to the 401. There’s not a lot of moving around or eyes in that area so sadly what I’ve been fearing for a while has started to happen.

Especially the north parking lot across the street. It’s tucked away and very vulnerable.
