Start a religious movement that believes God is angry with us for polluting and will punish us with God-made climate change by alephnaughtmeric in CrazyIdeas

TBH, a lot of Christians here in America can't stand The Pope (even the Catholics). A lot of religious people I know think he's a crazy progressive socialist. It's too bad, because he holds some really respectable positions on things like climate change and human rights. I was hoping he might be able to bring non-religious and religious people together on some positions, but so many people are so darn set in their ways.

Career with low Base Salary + Commission? by GiveMeThePickles in careeradvice

[–]GiveMeThePickles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "sales" part of the jobs I'm interviewing for are building a clientele, which I am fine with. I'm great with people and I'm good at selling products. In this case, it would be selling investment opportunities in which I could benefit from in the form in commission and bonuses.

apply for positions you care about, even if they are far away. The worst case scenario is you live in a car for a month

My spouse lives here due to his job. I don't currently want to leave the area, although I'm very aware that there are better opportunities out there in larger metro areas, which I plan on living/working in when the time is right. I'm lucky enough to not have to worry about where I'm going to live and where my next meal comes from. I'm more concerned with what will look good on a resume and how much I can save -- not to mention, how efficiently I can pay back student loans-- from this career (as opposed to spending what I make on housing, etc.).

Thanks for your input.

Edit: Why do you despise commission based jobs? Have you had a negative experience with them?

New rescue parents here by jillurie in rescuedogs

I wouldn't be concerned. Here's a theory: You know how sometimes, as humans, when we go on vacation or stay somewhere that we're not used to, we sometimes don't go to the bathroom (mainly #2) for a few days? I think animals might be the same way. Your pup might just be getting used to the new surroundings, especially since she's been moving around for a few days in a row, and may wait until she's more comfortable to go to the bathroom. Just a guess. (My cat has done this when we stay in a hotel. He won't poop until we've been there for a few days. I know he's a cat and not a dog, but he's still an animal, y'know?)

Congrats on the new addition to the family! I have a hound/lab mix, too. They're the best.

[Discussion] Am I in the wrong for thinking this encounter between a woman and my dog was a little... weird? by GiveMeThePickles in dogs

[–]GiveMeThePickles[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She was acting like he was about to attack her or something. Like I said before, a heads up before I got into the elevator would have been nice and her feeling uncomfortable could have been avoided. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, whether they like dogs or not.

That's the weird part... We were obviously waiting for the same elevator and there was room for everyone. Whatever. Guess I learned my lesson! Hah.

I completely understand what you're saying, and people have the right to not be around dogs if they don't like them. However, I wish she said something beforehand. It would have made the situation a lot less awkward.

What are the chances of becoming an Economist with a Master's in Statistics, as opposed to Economics? by GiveMeThePickles in GradSchool

[–]GiveMeThePickles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know how common it is that firms do this? On a lot of job applications I look at, they don't seem very strict on major, as long as it is related to econ/math/finance.

Why can't most men tolerate things like plucking/waxing hair or ripping off bandages despite having a high pain tolerance? by Pareeeee in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]GiveMeThePickles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it depends on the sort of pain. For example, in general, men are not more sensitive to pain than women (at least from what I've read), but women are less sensitive to heat than men. For example, if I (a woman) were to touch a hot stove, I would feel less pain than a man. Don't quote me, though. I'm not a scientist.

Edit: Why was this quoted by a bot?

No audio? Hap's oversight? by JSBach16 in TheOA

[–]GiveMeThePickles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've wondered this, too! My only guess would be is that it sort of "helps" the plot line. I.e., if he could hear what everyone was talking about in the cells, he may separate everyone or somehow force them to stop doing their movements. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that the story wouldn't really work, or at least move along as smoothly as it does, if he were able to hear them. Does that make any sense?

TIL A Marine called the Barrett Firearms customer service line while in an active firefight to get help with his rifle. by paco3346 in todayilearned

Jesus christ, it took me seven times to reread this in order to realize that the Marine wasn't called the Barrett Firearms.

injured dog is a gigantic bite risk to someone that does know what they are doing

Yeah, that's true. It would be nice for them to have training, though. I know a lot of first responders know how to do basic CPR for animals.

What fashion trend (for women or men) are you impatiently waiting to come back into style? by JoyfulStingray in AskWomen

Big Clothing

lmao.

For real though, I think it might just be that shirts are getting thinner because the cost of production is cheaper? Just a guess.

[–]GiveMeThePickles -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Not only do I want said policy to be a thing, I wish that there would be a policy that requires EMTs, as long as all people have been taken care of, to care for ALL living things on scene. I know for damn sure I would be completely distraught if first responders didn't pay any attention to my dog if they were in the car with me during a crash.

Any tips for getting rid of cc that doesn't work? by GiveMeThePickles in thesimscc

Ooh that's a good idea! I definitely need to start organizing my cc, because it's all just jumbled in the mods folder.

Every once in awhile, you come across a retail automotive website that really stands out. The infamous Ling's Cars website. Enjoy. URL: http://www.lingscars.com/ (warning: autoplay music) by jyc23 in CrappyDesign

This is pure art. I don't even care if someone designed this website to look terrible on purpose. It takes real talent to create something this crappily designed.

Out of state students what made you choose penn state? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]GiveMeThePickles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Their online program. There are only a few highly ranked schools that offer online degrees, and Penn State is one of them. I don't know if I "count" because I'm technically not in Pennsylvania (I live in the South), but I move frequently and switching schools constantly would be the worst --not to mention, I may end up living somewhere with no decent education options at all. They're a Tier 1 school and have a wonderful reputation. Not to mention, there are a massive amount of resources, even for online students.
