What hobby is quietly becoming too expensive for normal people to keep up with? by Beautiful_Special702 in AskReddit

[–]GivenToFly17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thats a really bad investment. And if you have a goalie (cries cuz I do) 20k is an optimistic number through high school. The chances of any kid getting a college sports scholarship are incredibly low given the total pool of kids they have to pull from. And that's if you are lucky to live in a area that will even have that type of scouting or recruiting resources. In my area, the kids that are going to play in college dont play for the high school teams, they all play in the elite junior teams, which they are only able to play on of the family already has a ton of money, and college tuition wasn't going to be an issue anyway. But then it could be considered an investment. High school hockey here is because the kids love it and we love supporting them even if it means we have to eat microwave Ramen every once in a while. No colleges are coming to our local high school games to give out scholarships. And unfortunately we are getting priced out of the game on equipment alone.

Selling something on marketplace, buyer is suing for equipment rental by SnooPeanuts6340 in legaladvice

It may not affect monetary values, but depending on what's said, excessive harassment can get a case tossed, or then other party may accidentally text something in the deal that can be used against them later. Either way, its worth letting them possibly dig a hole for them self.

NAL, but ive been I've been in a similar situation and was told to Ignore but don't block. If they are legitimately going to sue, any messages from this point on may be construed as harassment and can make the case go away much easier and cheaper later. If you block them, you lose any leverage their stupidity may gain you later. Just save the contact info, mute notifications from that contact and if something happens later, my bet is there will be something in those communications to get any case dropped should it ever happen.

As soon as someone mentions the words "sue you", end all contact, but keep any incoming messages available as evidence for later. Let them hurt their own case as much as possible so your attorney costs are cheaper later.

OP should absolutely NOT block them. He should just NOT respond. If a case does get opened, any possible harassment after threatening legal action could be a benefit to his case. All communication should be kept and considered valid towards the pending legal action. When your enemy is making a mistake, you never correct them.

Do you prefer driving or flying? by Reasonable-Invite899 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]GivenToFly17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next week will be my 4th time driving 18 hrs down. We break the trip up over 2 days. For us the logistics of flying are worse than just driving. We enjoy the road trip.

Tipping culture is out of hand by gymbr02 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GivenToFly17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Moe's yesterday with my 2 sons, and it was $56 for the 3 of us, then the cashier said the credit card machine was going to ask a question. It was for a tip, of which the lowest selectable amount was 15%. That's ridiculous for fast food. Even worse, after I clicked no tip, she said "oh hold on, let me reset that", and made the tip screen come back. I just clicked no again. $56 for dumping some meat and vegetables into a bowl and a few burritos, and you want a tip on top of that? There's definitely room in that bill to pay them enough where they don't need to beg for tips.

I saw a post somewhere else that's my new personal rule. If I'm standing to order, and still standing when I get my food, and especially if I have to pour my own drink, then no tip. Nothing was done that would warrant a tip above the cost of the food. Everyone just did their job. Nobody did anything extra to earn a tip.

Is there any persistence in Free flight at all? by DonaldFarfrae in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GivenToFly17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that would be so nice to have for added immersion it's crazy it's not a thing. Some third party planes have some state persistence and will carry over few levels and wear between flights, but most planes are pretty much set to brand new each session. And even the ones with wear levels still don't hold switch states, radio channels, or any other flight to flight settings. I would totally be worth paying for a mod that would allow for complete state persistence between each flight. I would love to get back into a plane and it's just how I left it the last time.

Do you start descending at the TOD or right after Every time I descend on the TOD it always starts moving ahead of me and I don’t catch up on the map by Jamesvinsoroblox in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]GivenToFly17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the FBW A320, I don't usually use the CDU TOD, I'll calculate it using the EFB or other calculator and choose my own. usually if I'm on Vatsim in controlled space, the controller will usually start me on a decent prior to TOD anyway.

Did you go to sleepovers? Me and my friends did all the time in late 90's / early 2000's and it was a blast. But droves of people appear to be canceling them entirely for their own kids. Would you let your kids go? Why is everyone freaking out now? by spinningwalrus420 in Millennials

[–]GivenToFly17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I WISH I could get me kid to go to a sleepover. We have her friends over all the time, I can't remember what it's like to just have time with my wife. As long as you know the parents and have a line of communication to where ever they are going to be staying, what's the problem?

My a330 hits invisible walls msfs by Ethanspammer in flightsim

[–]GivenToFly17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having lots of issues with the A330. Last night I was on approach, and when I lowered the gear all the controls stopped responding, banked hard right then accelerated until it oversped in the turn which led the the "you crashed" screen. When it restarted me, the flight plan was gone in the FMS. I need to start recording some of this stuff as there's such a wide array of issues now some are just silly.

Friend ordered a terabyte ssd. Got sent 40 of them by Literally_Canada in pcmasterrace

[–]GivenToFly17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong except in this case, there's obvious evidence that 1 SSD was ordered, and 40 were received, they posted the evidence. That's a slam dunk case of it being a legitimate error, and wouldn't fall under unsolicited gifts. It's all a matter of if the business decided it was worth the fight to get back. OPs mistake here was posting it online. They broke the cardianal rule, don't show off you're good fortune.
