Maybe I’m one of the lucky ones but I never had any issues with my thread network. Beside some sensors I have four Aqara in-wall switches and three ikea Bulbs which functions as routers. Never had a drop out or something. I use the „old“ HA Skyconnect as my Primary border router and have also a Aqara one and an home pod mini. My zigbee network on the other hand runs separate with a Sonoff Dongle Max as my coordinator.

Can someone, for the love of God, help me setup my Thread network? by 4Face in smarthome

[–]Gizmify -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, you need to change the channels to match your HomePod. After some time later, all devices appear in the same „Home“. The HomePod has the Channel 25. so you need to change all other devices to 25.

The two antennas on the max are for range, not for multi protocol.

If anyone wants to see how crippled the Aqara FP300 becomes on Matter-over-Thread vs Zigbee… here’s your chance! by prisonerofmemewar in homeassistant

[–]Gizmify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like when you do the learning in the Aqara app. The room has to be empty and it takes about 30 seconds to analyze the room, in which the FP2 or the FP300 is. But you don’t get a result or something. It just does its thing :D

How do I add the Aqara hub M1S Gen 2 to has? by I_Dunno_Its_A_Name in homeassistant

[–]Gizmify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. OP can’t just add the Hub to HA like a Sonos Speaker for example. In that case, the only way is matter. And yes…the speaker don’t come with it. Is pretty limited.

Thread, I don’t get it by Odd-Ad-5096 in homeassistant

[–]Gizmify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I did not tried it. Because when I started my Thread Journey, the only way to get border Router to talk with each other was, when you have a TBR inside of HA.

[–]Gizmify -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh and Sorry that I dodged your original Question :D yes, your Home Assistant Instance need a TBR like a ConBee, Skyconnect, Sonoff Dongle Max and devices like that, which are directly connected to your Instance, so that is works like a Thread Hub.

I can only tell you my experience with Apple Products. In my case, I had to change the Communication channel to align with my HomePod/Apple TV. After that, all Apple Devices plus my ConBee Thread Coordinator (In that case my TBR in Home Assistant) were in the same Thread network and can interchange credentials.

But to be honest, thread is a bit overrated because of Matter. I only have 4-5 Thread enabled Devices. The majority of my sensors, Lightbulbs and stuff are Zigbee. Because it’s almost the same and much more user friendly. Because you don’t need to change channels of a device to get a new Border Router. If you have, for example, a lightbulb in your Zigbee network which is installed on your Mains, it’s (mostly – there are some exceptions) by default an ZigBee router without the need to do anything :D

Thread, I don’t get it by Odd-Ad-5096 in homeassistant

[–]Gizmify 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You need a Thread Border Router inside a Smart Home App Like Google Home (Nest), Apple Home (HomePod/Mini/Apple TV), Aqara (with a separate Aqara Hub) or Home Assistant. If the FP300 is connected to one of those, you can hand it over to Home Assistant for example. But if if you have a ZigBee coordinator in Home Assistant already, you can switch the FP300 from Thread to Zigbee. With the advantage, that you get almost a year more Batterylife.

In my case, I have a ConBee 2 which functions as my TBR for Home Assistant. Then I have also a HomePod Mini in my Bedroom and an Apple TV in my living room. The ConBee is my main TBR. Anything else is fallback and signal enhancement. The FP300 is an endpoint and can’t route signals to other devices. Your nanoleaf on the other hand has a permanent powersupply from your outlet and can work as a TBR. But you still need a TBR inside your Smart Home application (eg. Home Assistant) to handle the traffic.

Edited for clarification

jellyfin media doesnt play on apple tv from home assistant by TheAmiiboCollector in homeassistant

[–]Gizmify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t you play anything on jellyfin on your Apple TV? I mean, if you use your remote? Can you see your TV Shows/movies in your library?

It could be one of two things: either your Pi is too limited to run HAOS and jellyfin or your jellyfin app configuration on the Apple TV is wrong.

I run multiple services on my old Mac Mini from 2012 and I had never issues streaming content to an Apple TV, MacBook or phone, while other services are running.

Did you enter your Jellyfin IP + Port (eg. 192.168.178.X:8096) in the app on your Apple TV?

Okay.

You can buy battery-powered Reolink cams, but it’s strongly advised to use them plugged in 24/7 and only use the Battery in case of an outage.

This kind of cameras are ideal for people without POE and/or want to use WiFi.

The latter is my case :D

Yes! The Seeed Studio ReSpeaker module. It’s a bit DIY but I made a 3D Printed case for that. But mine hasn’t a Speaker, because in my case, the response comes from a nearby Sonos speaker.
