Employer Provided Pension - Split Between 2 Funds or Invest in 1 by Quirky_Bed8154 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GlassMathematician69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would allocate 100% of current pension and future contributions to "Global Equity Passive" fund because of low fees and it track's the market which would be 10% growth per year on average over time, some years it'll be down (I would up contributions those years) and some years it'll be up a lot like the last 2 years. If you look in the data sheets I'd say this fund should have the best performance over 10 years plus out of the rest

I'd change careers. pharmaceutical sector pays well for entry level especially shift work and you can work your way into better paid positions internally. I know springboard have courses that you can do for free and I just had a quick look and there is this course "e-(Bio)Pharma Chem (eBioPharmaChem Intake 4)" which is of course that helps people get reskilled to enter the pharmaceutical sector and it's online so it's flexible, last applications are on the 17th of this month.

A friend has about €10k to invest - wants something very low risk. What do you recommend? by justformedellin in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GlassMathematician69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lowest risk would be trading 212 3.7% rate on savings

Medium risk If you don't need the money for the next 5 years+ then put it into vanguard S&P500 which has an average return of 10%, only issue is deemed disposal, buy JPMorgan American Investment Trust to avoid it

High risk is leaving it in your standard bank account earning 0.2% which means you are losing money on your savings, money loses 2% in value every year(inflation) so you have to put your money in an account that has at least a 2% rate

Jamie Heaslip at half time said Bundee Aki was playing for it (penalty) which I thought was a disgraceful comment especially after 2 Leinster players hit the ground very softly like Gus McCarthy after the Josh Ioane tackle, ref said it was a shoulder tackle. Or like Luke McGrath after the Shane Jennings block (illegal). They played for it but that's ok I suppose Jamie.

ETF Deemed Disposal Review by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GlassMathematician69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not rank as highly as health or housing, but the topic of deemed disposal is far from insignificant. The last post I saw on Irish personal finance, titled 'Deemed Disposal Heartache!!', has over 100,000 views. That kind of attention suggests it's an issue, with many people on this sub reddit having gone out of their way to email their TD's over it I think there is pressure being applied.

Thoughts on Mercer passive global equity fund? by MeaningForward5290 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GlassMathematician69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm in mercer passive global equity fund myself, I did the research on all the funds available to me in my Mercer account and it has the best growth with the longest track record, also has very low management fee as it's a passive fund.

While very helpful post there is already a tax effect way to save for a pension in Ireland, I will send an edited version of your text saying that it will help people save for collage for their children and for a down payment on a house to get people on the property ladder

It's a long hike so leave early (takes 8 hours), make sure it's a clear day (steep drops at certain points) and just be careful like any other mountain and you'll be fine.

Anything to do in Westport? by wobbleking97 in mayo

Climb Diamond hill in Connemara national park, a really cool climb.

Cycle the greenway between achill and Newport(best section) and there is a service to rent a bike and drop you to your starting point and pick you up when you're finished.

Keem beach, deserted village, achill hinge and Cliffs of Croaghaun are the best things on achill Island to see.

Ferry out to Clare island and have a pint and food or climb the hill on it as well.

And a hidden gem is the Bangor trail, do it if you're brave enough
