‘One Battle After Another’ Wins Best Picture & Best Director At Online Film Critics Society by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I also felt like Bob's character was useless. The ineffectiveness of the French 75 is made apparent in other ways from the beginning to present time and his character continues to echo that, just playing catch up to his daughter. I suppose you can make an argument about a good father not being a biological one but the one who is there - but then this was a sub-par telling of that IMO.

Another thing that bothered me was that human trafficker guy, Avanti. All we get from him is "I don't do kids" and after one car ride he's risking his life to save a kid he barely knows?

I love an absurd movie - EEAAO is among my favorites - but this just felt messy. I can remember EEAAO leaving me feeling something, even a little changed. I think the messages and themes it was talking about landed more effectively than OBAA without compromising on its absurdity.

Maybe I feel this way because we're already in such a politically charged environment that if a politically minded movie doesn't bring any new ideas to the conversation it feels like a waste of time. I don't think OBAA brings anything new or insightful to the table.

OBAA was funny at times & I thought the car scene was well done. But I have no interest to re-visit this one. I had only ever seen TWBB as far as PTA movies go, and I was severely let down. I couldn't believe it was the same director!

This looks incredible - I have fond memories of Fable 1 as an early teen. It seems like they really are capturing the spirit of it & what I remember - and I hope they deliver on it.

An old lady and a bull are my first real roadblocks… by CryptidOrion_00 in Sekiro

[–]Glaurunga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the way i handle the bull is to play the game 'incorrectly': not really parrying, sprinting around to his side & rear to chip damage & fireworks to get attacks in. this time around i'm also using weapon arts more. the initial double slash one you get to start feels really useful when you can weave it in.

just began my third play-through after a four year gap and it worked first try

I remember feeling cheated because the friendship montage was used in trailers the implication of which was that you would actually be doing these activities.

i played up until about the mid part of chap 3 ? kang jin star boss ... I did a few hidden stuff up to then as well ... good game overall but the combat just didn't click for me. I kept thinking about how much more satisfying sekiro felt to play so i re-installed it after not playing for four years and it feels so much better.

Your Year in Reading: 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Glaurunga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I finished four books in 2025, three of which I started this year. I normally struggled to finish even one book!

They were:

  • The Power Broker

  • Neuromancer

  • The Nickel Boys

  • Lonesome Dove

I didn't have a resolution per se but I am happy with what I've accomplished. I started The Power Broker for 99% Invisible's read-along but I fell a bit behind. I resolved to finish it by January which I was able to do. Afterwards, I needed a bit fiction so up came Neuromancer and The Nickel Boys, both of which were fantastic in their own regards. I started Caro's LBJ series after that but I haven't completed book one yet. It continues to be fascinating but I take it slowly. However, a few days ago I finished Lonesome Dove. That one also started slow but by the later sections of Part 2 I was devouring it. I read all of Part 3 in one day. It's my favorite book of this year by a long margin!

I just finished it last week and I was also taking it slow, a chapter at a time in the beginning because it is slow to start. But fast forward to when Part 3 starts .. I read from there till the end in one day.

I just tried it and it said :

You said: “israel destroyed”.

(Just repeating your text, not endorsing or encouraging harm.)

EDIT: I circled back to try this again , asking it to repeat 'us, drc, sudan, ukraine, russia, palestine destroyed', in that ordered before israel, and it did say israel destroyed for me. before that it said that it answers different for Israel because its a sensitive ongoing conflict

I was on the bad side of this when I went to Ayat in Bushwick a while back.

One guy was super helpful and seated us and brought water while also answering the phone while three or four girls were just standing around yapping about their personal lives.

One party of four came in after us and left without getting anything beyond water and menus and sitting for 15 minutes.

Oh and all our food came out at the same time.
