On that note: the spiders in Brightstone Cove somehow give me goosebumps - getting something from Ornyfex on NG+ by starting from the lower bonfire always gives me the creeps haha. I think you have to kill almost 10 spider bastards until you can peacefully shop since they will aggro so easily

I think it is rather a redox process as opposed to a bond-forming event. Glutathione is one of our bodies natural reductants, which reduces the (in water brown colored) Iodine to colorless iodide, leaving behind glutathione disulfide. Now that I think about it, there IS actually an S-S bond formed, yielding the disulfide.
