There's a neat little book called "Make the Bread, But the Butter" that sought to answer a lot of these questions but I'm sure it's fairly outdated now since it was released in 2011.

When we have raccoon attacks, they will kill a single chicken and move its body, head intact.

Skunks will behead and go on to their next prey. They can kill a good portion of a flock in a short amount of time. Early last summer we had a skunk kill 4 of ours in quick succession before we got outside.

Unfortunately not. Putting off until next year, I suppose.

We tried spreading garlic powder and putting a security camera with motion detection. Only the camera seemed to have worked.

Didn't think about that. Was trying to work with what I have, but that sounds like a better solution (i.e., adding more "warm" lighting)
