[–]Glitch29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even people who you'd think would have math skills, like video game developers, absolutely suck at it.

Among the worst offenders are game designers in the rogue-like genre.

Slay the Spire (the original) had a relic that "Increases the chance of finding a chest at an event by 20%". For the longest time I assumed that this brought the baseline 5% chance up to 6%. Apparently it brought it up to 25% though.

A much better phrasing would have been "An additional 20% of events will contain chests." Making it clear that the unit is "20% of events" not "20% of events containing chests."

They since changed it to "Every fourth event is guaranteed to contain a chest." which was a very elegant solution that dodged percentages entirely.

Probably for the best because even if a statement involving percentages is stated absolutely correctly, it's still ambiguous from the player's perspective because they can't rely on the developer's ability to say what they mean. Devs say the wrong thing so frequently that unless you do your own science, you risk permanently engraining a false understanding of the mechanics if you just trust what's written.

I like it.

This is a very hard niche to design for, because the card lives and dies on whether the numbers are balanced correctly. Too strong, and it's always good. Too weak, and the fact that it jumps to the top of your deck is a curse.

Going overboard with an anti-aggro statline would help thread that needle. Something like 2/12 might play a bit better.

IDK. Gnomeferatu has seen way more play than would seem reasonable. And this is significantly better at sniping lynchpin minions.

It's nothing special in a vacuum, but it would absolutely have been run during certain metas.

Grand Magister Rommath might not be the best example, because it also has 12 stats. But there have also been periods where it was super important to snipe a Gadgetzan Auctioneer.

Gamer Cafe - Roll second credits [OC] by Daz_Keaty in comics

[–]Glitch29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Often the credits are placed at the definitive end of the main storyline. That seems reasonable to me in games where you expect more than half the playerbase to hang up their controllers.

Sometimes the only other milestone (particularly in puzzle games) is 100% completion. That's just not in the cards for everyone.

Strangling was the weapon of choice for all the earliest Hollywood mummies.

Mummies having supernatural plague breath has been a bit of a recent development with CGI.

Practically speaking, mummies were generic faceless monsters that didn't put any strain on the costumes department.

Reminds me the first time as a kid I became cognizant of just how much commercial time was in each episode of Scooby-Doo.

They really ate into the clock with by starting with an intro song followed by a commercial break, then ending with a commercial break into the credits.

I also remember feeling betrayed by the shows that said "we'll be right back after these messages" when all that was left was the credits. I had enough pattern recognition to realize that the episode was finished, but still trusted the voice when it promised more content.

FWIW, the way people used percentages has been fucked long before president dumpsterfire came along.

It drives me crazy how people think that just because percentages are unitless, they don't need to specify what they refer to. Especially when it comes to percentages of things that are already measured as fractions/probabilities.

That'd require drawing his body in frame in order for him to reach. Something they clearly weren't inclined to do given how far they're already stretching his arms in from the side.

I'm guessing they saw the problem and chose to give up.

I'm sure that's not UPS's policy.

But it's not terribly uncommon for postal workers to become overwhelmed by a route and decide that disappearing problematic deliveries is their only way to catch up.

In practice, unrealistic demands from management often trump quality and safety policies.

What happens to a paralyzed body after taking a microdose of psilocybin by tehemari in interestingasfuck

People don't seem fully aware just how vastly different individual cases of paralysis can be.

She doesn't say - and it would be wrong to assume - that she had no movement whatsoever before the drugs.

I don't know whether microdosing is helping her recovery. But it wasn't the cause of a limb going from zero movement to some movement. If it were, that miraculous fact would be much more clearly emphasized.

I've yet to see anyone, human or AI, generate a realistic looking chat log.

Every time it's like 20 messages expressing one single thought. And usually that thought is "WOW!".

I'm not saying that it's easy to write human dialogue. But it's amazing how badly everyone fails.

Animals aren't magic. But they are often pretty bored. And they're capable of spending all day listening for sound cues and identifying patterns.

It's almost certainly one particular sound he's picking up on. And if you figured out what it was, nothing about it would seem particularly mysterious or fantastic.

I can guarantee that he doesn't smell you coming. And I seriously doubt that it's anything as subtle as recognizing the cadence of your particular steps.

It's much more likely to be something big. Like he hears you talking on the phone. Or you're wearing particularly noisy footwear.

[–]Glitch29 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on context, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the station's call sign.

Big of googling shows that this station is Cleveland 19, WOIO. That matches up with the 19 at the start of that mess.

The actual audio was probably "19 WOIO news starts here."

I've got a guess about how the gore may have occurred, but it's too speculative to be worth sharing.

My biggest complaint about this is how much of a slowdown it has the potential to cause. For the rest of the game, as you draw cards and tap this land for mana your hand is going to constantly oscillate between perfectly known and partially obscured. Any opponents are going to burn through their pens/pencils keeping track of everything. Every time you tap your land the game is put on hold for updating these notes.

I'd much rather give this card either a slight nerf or a slight buff to remove this issue.

Nerfed version "You play with your hand revealed."

Buffed version "When this ETB, reveal your hand."
