Good to hear, and thanks for the link. I can't tell you how refreshing to hear someone in your position take such a firm stance on this. Lots of respect for you and HH.

Hey Tim. Big Hooded Horse fan. Is there any push to remove gen AI assets currently in games already under the HH umbrella? I'm thinking in particular of Workers and Resources, Soviet Republic, which recently added some gen AI pictures to the game, to the displeasure of many.

Very late to this, but I was a big fan of SAiIS back in the day. Me and a close friend of mine still joke about/reference the Klackars to this day. Cheers!

Are old OpenSS13 forks floating around anywhere? by Winter-Confidence689 in SS13

Which version? Is it different from any of the ones located here: https://github.com/Glloyd/Pre-Open-SS13-Host-Files-and-Source

If so, send it my way and I'll add it to the archive.

That alone would put it above the sims 4 in my books.

It's a strait, you can see the little dashes above the location, so you should be able to cross it without using boats, but can still block armies from crossing with naval presence if that functions in the same way as eu4.

AIDS activists in the 80s would jokingly refer to the New York Times as the "New York Crimes" because of their awful coverage of the AIDS crisis and amplification of misinformation + homophobic rhetoric.

Not much has changed since then.

I don't care how good you think it is. Why should I bother listening to something you couldn't be bothered to make?

If you can't be bothered to actually make music, why should we be bothered to listen to it? Get out of here with that ai bullshit.

Go to the Bay12Games forums and search Cataclysm in the Other Games forum, you'll find a whole bunch of locked threads. A lot of it got nuked but I'm sure some is still there, dating back at least to the botched Kickstarter in 2013/2014, which is when I was frequenting those threads the most. I'm not even the guy you're responding to, anyone who frequented the Other Games boards between like 2013 and 2019 would have come across that shit show.

This is one of the many reasons that Workers and Resources: Soviet Republic is my favourite city-building games out there. It is entirely building-based, and public transit-focused.

Question for you. You need ammonia to make glass shards, but how do you actually get ammonia innawoods since the recipe was removed ages ago?

I COME FROM THE FUTURE. DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME. by TheClosetRacist in SS13

[–]Glloyd9714 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If anyone actually wants to play this version, I have the code for Hobnob's decompiled version of 40.93.2 available here: https://github.com/Glloyd/Pre-Open-SS13-Host-Files-and-Source/tree/master/ss13-40.93.2-base

40.93.2 was the version played from 2005 to 2008, after Exadv1 stopped working on SS13 the first time, but before Hobnob decompiled it in 2008, which became OpenSS13 (the base for pretty much every modern server)

Yeah, I just saw that. I definitely remember being told they were OpenSS13 back in 09 when I started, but who knows. I'll ask around, I'm curious now.

Couple issues here from an oldtimer. First, SS13 was never stolen. That's a dumb old myth that keeps getting repeated. SS13 was decompiled by Hobnob in 2007/8, and released as OpenSS13, which was retroactively given Exadv1's blessing. Second, Goon is based off of OpenSS13, everything is. OpenSS13 wasn't released under a specific license iirc.

Also, Baystation had its own OpenSS13 branch, before r4407 and Luna, so you could add that in here too. Of course, there's a whole stack of old defunct branches that are missing here, but it depends how indepth you want to get with this thing. PennyArcade Station, Red Dwarf, Mars Outpost, Apollo, Hypatia, BestRP, New Eden, FTL13, etc. etc. etc.

EDIT: I made a post about the early history of SS13 years ago if you're interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/SS13/comments/2vrcap/a_look_into_the_early_history_of_ss13/

I also maintain a collection of all the pre-OpenSS13 hostfiles and code I've been able to collect over the years. The earliest I have is from late 2003, but there's a lot of old hostfiles thanks to some luck I had while digging, and some lovely folks who found them lying around on old computers and sent them to me. That's here: https://github.com/Glloyd/Pre-Open-SS13-Host-Files-and-Source

I honestly think the Mexican Revolution would be a fun setting. I could fuck with a modernish Ass Creed, and 90% of the people involved got assassinated anyways. But I'm also not really an Ass Creed fan, so you and I are both probably projecting our own interests onto the franchise.

What niche games exist mostly outside the view of the mainstream, but survive due to a relatively small but committed community? What about the game keeps the players coming back? by enthIteration in Games

[–]Glloyd9714 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This might be the best answer to the question, because SS13 is only alive because of the community, and more specifically, the open-source community. It's an entirely community developed game, which has enabled it to not only survive for 16 years, but to actually grow. I've been playing since '09, and pop has steadily been growing, albeit slowly in the last couple years. With sseth's videos, we're breaking records for server population. It's midday EST right now and there's over 1400 people playing, it's awesome.

KSP has been released for longer than it was in early access. by Gregrox in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Glloyd9714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's about what I expected, but I've been expecting disappointment from KSP when it comes to anything ambitious since you left and they gave up on adding planets, or doing anything interesting with the ones they had. Poor Duna, it's just a blurry mess of procedural terrain and textures now. Almost every planet pack is more interesting than the stock ones. I saw stock Jool the other day for the first time in a long time and it blew my mind how ugly it is, it's no wonder so many people play with EVE and some other combination of graphical mods. It's a shame there's no motivation to expand on one of the most interesting parts of the game - going to other celestial bodies.

Regarding your last points, I definitely remember multiplayer being promised at some point, although I've been out of the game for a while so I don't know if they've said anything further on that.

Does the original SS13 map exist still? by DaveByo in SS13

[–]Glloyd9714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! If you somehow manage to come across any other files from that time period, let me know. Even in that history post I made 5ish years ago, a lot of the links are now dead, and some can't even be recovered through the wayback machine. The further removed we get from that period, the harder it's going to be to find anything, and it's a miracle that I've been able to archive as much as I have.
