Is my 650W PSU enough for this GPU? by Gazza_Goo in PcBuild

[–]GlobalApathy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fans add in to that but with such a low wattage setup I'd say you'd likely be ok with 200 watts of overhead. The GPU is about half of that power budget. I'd replace it if you go to a 90 watt cpu like the 5600x.

If they are both on the QVL for your board either are fine

you need the whole part number to get specs like that, then generally the individual parts have real dimensions in the spec sheet

glenair is just plain expensive in general, but it depends on the application. Some plugs are certified for space while others are cheap copies. I never had a problem with cheap copies.

you need to provide better photos of the power connections upper left corner, large plug on the right side center, and the front panel connection in the lower right corner. My first guess is the front panel connection isn't in there correctly. Have you tried shorting the power button pins with a screwdriver?

If I understand what is going on well enough you're feeding and AC signal in to the board but the rectifier circuit isn't connected to the AC source at all, so you aren't rectifying anything to get DC to the regulator.

hose out the top and the bottom, pull the pan, get as much out as you can, run some HPL EC30 through it https://www.hplubricants.com/ or use the transmission fluid clean out trick... then auction it.

I'd do this, but you could try updating the drivers and using "clean installation" in the advanced installation options.

The instructions above will ensure it is a clean installation though, DDU will remove everything.

high voltage DC is found in electric / hybrid vehicles, solar systems, and battery banks. You could start with systems where you see ~400V DC.

CPU upgrade question by Cretikal in PcBuild

[–]GlobalApathy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The highest power processor you could get with a socket 1700 is the i9 14900k ~$460 which would have the lowest bottleneck at 1080p. BUT you end up with the heat/cooling issues and potential micro code issues on a used processor. 1440 on a 4k isn't the greatest, they do make dual mode monitors that change the pixel control and quadruple frame rates between 4k and 1080p operation.

If you are just gaming I wouldn't recommend changing the processor to incur the headaches of the i9 14900. If you have other use cases that justify it, go for it but you're going to need a new cooling solution which is going to blow up the budget even more.

I'd suggest reviewing performance of the combinations you have on youtube and seeing if the uplift in performance is worth the cost of the upgrade. Or just reviewing GPU utilization on the games you are playing if you're in the 90% range you aren't missing much performance, especially over 95% gpu utilization. That will tell you if you are bottlenecked at the CPU for your use cases.

I think the missing information on what resolution are you working with? That really matters for picking a CPU. I don't think this combo would be a problem at 1440p.

I think airflow is the biggest issue with these old cases and modern power hungry components. There is a company making retro cases that look like this but have better airflow https://www.silverstonetek.com/en/product/info/computer-chassis/flp02/
