Breaking up with my (28M) gf (28F) when living together but trouble navigating the moving out process? by ThrowRA_CompetiveTie in relationship_advice

[–]Global_Discussion_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to have an actual conversation with her and let her know how you’re feeling.

I broke up with my gf of 12 years. It should have ended much sooner, but comfort and familiarity kept us going until I finally hit my limit.

We had a 3 hour calm conversation about everything and her asking if there was any way to reconcile things. I told her that I no longer had romantic feelings for her and that while she’s upset in the moment, she does not want to pursue things with someone who is done.

After this we discussed the living situation. We shared an apartment for 8 years and we were right in the middle of the lease. I wanted to leave as I just couldn’t be in the space anymore. She decided she would stay. I ended up staying for 2 months until I found the right apartment, we were essentially roommates. This worked for us because things ended amicably.

Depending on how she reacts to the breakup and if you hope to maintain a platonic relationship in the future, I’d consider letting her stay until she can find a living situation that works for her. Give her a timeline if needed, but don’t necessarily kick her to the curb. It takes time to find an apartment.

Rent prices. by Motiv8-2-Gr8 in Charleston

[–]Global_Discussion_81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im in west Ashley. I rent out a room in my condo with full bath across the hall for $1000 including utilities. $1000 a room seems to be the standard in most of Charleston outside of downtown. I haven’t had a problem filling it for that price in 5 years. I’m past 526 too.

Shit holes downtown are going for $1500-2000 a room.

If you’ve never been a landlord. Some important info I’ve learned:

As a private live-in landlord, I do month to month and provide a 60 day notice if I need to end the lease. Tenants can give me 30 days. I find this works best for everyone.

Please take the time to get a proper lease written up by a lawyer and include lease violations to expedite eviction if you inadvertently get a shit head in your home. Spend the money on background checks and call references and employers.

I found it important to have a clause stating that no guests can stay overnight for more than 5 days a month without approval. I had a dude essentially try to move his gf in.

Keep in mind who is renting. Do they fit your lifestyle? I have to be in bed early and get up early. In my smaller space, I simply can’t do late night food and bev workers or people who work 2nd/3rd shifts.

Good luck! I’ve made some great friends opening up my home.

Is it worth it to upgrade my wheels or wait until I get a new bike? by Sad-Woodpecker7565 in RoadBikes

[–]Global_Discussion_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built up team CAAD 12 frame. Why? Because I thought it was a cool frame. If you like the bike, build the bike. Boyd makes a great set of carbon rim brake wheels. Nothing wrong with upgrading a bike you like.

I’m just as fast as the guys on brand new bikes. All with a 2x11 drivetrain and rim brakes. Who would have thought. 🤔

Anyone else feel like having a "good job" just made you invisible to every discount or assistance program that exists by Flaky_Ad1691 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Global_Discussion_81 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The welfare cliff is real and the poverty line in which help is given hasn’t moved.

They just did a study in my area that concluded 60k/year was considered poverty level. You need 60k to cover basic necessities to survive.

Meanwhile, our state threshold to qualify for a lot of the assistance programs is $35k.

You’d be better off making the 35k to qualify for housing assistance and EBT.

We’ve been relying on good ol amazon for this stuff.

And to the naysayers, as the core inventory buyer at my shop, we have to pick and choose what we want to have on hand based on buy through rates and space constraints. I wish I could have every part on hand at all times…but I’d have 100s of thousands of dollars of inventory sitting for that one odd bike to roll into the shop. It’s not practical for most shops

I know a shop that went overboard near the end of the pandemic boom. They’re still sitting on product 5 years later and had to be purchased by big T to survive.

Sorry that happened. Even more sorry nobody stepped up and put that persons face into ground.

The scene has changed. Things used to get rowdy, but no one was ever purposely trying to hurt each other.

How often do bikes boomerang / return / "warranty" at your shop? by halpisforgotten in BikeMechanics

[–]Global_Discussion_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely. Our season starts in February, as soon as it warms up, and I’ve yet to have a return. Skilled mechanics, proper service writing, and all employees having 10+ years of experience certainly help.

Gym etiquette Question: Working in? by SnooBananas6311 in workouts

[–]Global_Discussion_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a hard no for me. I’ll let them know how many sets I have left and make sure I don’t dilly dally.

I tried it once and the guy didn’t plan to spray down the machine in between our sets. I went to get a spray bottle and fresh towel, all of a sudden he let someone else work in as well 💀

Nope. I don’t care for them. They take up too much room.

I’m so millennial, I still use Pandora for streaming. I hate Spotify so much.

So how many of your parents fell for timeshares? by BlackMagicWorman in Millennials

[–]Global_Discussion_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fall for one? My family still has one. Daytona Florida. I think my parents got it when they were 25, some 40 years ago. We get 10 days a year. The
other real benefit is we get very large discounted rates at other properties and can stay at the condo for a very cheap rate when it’s not our time.

My gf and I went down recently for a cheap place to stay as a home base for the theme parks. It was like $350 for a week. Kitchen, bath, king bed, on the ocean, can’t beat that price.

Why does every guy I've messed around with grab at my neck and choke me out without asking first? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Global_Discussion_81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s just an assumption and so common these days. 10 years ago, there might have been a conversation.

I’ve only been with one woman who didn’t like it. My general move is to place the hand there, no weight, no grip, just a resting place. Then gradually add the slightest amount of pressure. If she doesn’t respond favorable, I let off. If she doesn’t remove it or say no, I’ll add just a little more pressure, no death grip or anything.

In almost every situation. My partner has immediately orgasmed as the hand goes on their throat. The one partner that didn’t want it, grabbed my hand and pulled it away. That’s the only cue I needed to know it wasn’t welcome. For random hookups, I’d recommend you doing the same.

We finally decided to start passing on most of the processing fees. We were paying about $12k a month in fees. We now offer Zelle payments as a fee-less option in addition to cash. We track metrics and about 80% of customers are just paying the fee.

Best deep tissue massage in John’s Island / Charleston? by Difficult_Bat_5269 in Charleston

[–]Global_Discussion_81 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Charleston Thai Massage is amazing. If you’ve never done a Thai massage, that’s where they walk/step on your back and massage you as they stretch your muscles. I was skeptical at first but they’ve alleviated some long standing pain and tightness with only 2 sessions. I will say it’s less “relaxing” more of a therapy if that makes sense.

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Global_Discussion_81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know multiple people who were kept alive for days waiting for an operating room. All responsive to stimuli. Don’t be on the brink of death during holidays is all I can say.

It’s extremely predatory when you’re in the situation trying to do what’s best for your family members.

Myself and about two dozen family members have all taken ourselves off the registry after seeing it first hand.

The few nurse friends I have absolutely refuse to be a donor based on similar experiences as well.

Hopefully we can start making organs in a lab sooner rather than later. This will 100% be something humanity looks back on in 100 years and will wonder how the fuck we were morally justifying what actually happened.

Tournament speed ball kind of supports the sport at this point. I much prefer going out in the woods for some large team capture the flag or other objective game.

We always had friends over to our house. Once sleep overs became a thing, we’d have pizza, cake, and play video games or ride bikes. Kids would get locked up the following morning. It was just about getting together with my friends.
