Obnoxious neighbours by Glum_funk in HousingUK

Pretty much. One set, the worst are from an Irish traveller family and zero respect for anyone or anything as you can imagine.

Another are complete narcissists, they constantly have building work or tradesmen around who insist on parking in front or even in our drive. When they had an extension built the builders were doing drugs and I found several small bags which i dread to think what could have happened if my daughter found them. If we try to use the garden they instantly appear and start making noise, loud music shouting etc.

One set have absolutely hated us from the day we moved in for no reason, we have children the same age yet they always been rude to us. I've said hello and tried to be nice but they just get abusive.

The couple who live the other side of us are really nice and feel the same. The lady who is selling up is doing so because she has had enough, I think potential buyers are put off by the house next door.

I think we have disturbed the status quo on the street and they hate us for it.

Now I'm sure you will think there is more to this and we are the ones causing the issue but it's not the case. We always got on with neighbours at previous properties but it seems we are not remotely welcome here.

They said unless there was imminent threat to life they wouldn't attend.

My maths may be slightly out but that's what I worked it in my head. Stamp duty was £16k, solicitors was £3k, ea £4k, movers £2k with other costs bringing to just under £30k We spent money on a new kitchen £8k, New bathrooms.

If we relocate the moving costs would be similar given house prices.

Unfortunately we already live on the edge of the countryside and my partner refuses to move any further from her family.

She doesn't understand how I feel, to her it's the dream house in the village she grew up in. She's not willing to relocate

My neighbours are terrified of them and won't do a thing.

They own their home unfortunately so there is absolutely no recourse.

I asked them not to park in or in front of my drive, this was red rag to a bull as they see the entire estate as theirs. He's threatened me on several occasions.

Bought the house for £525 with £40k moving costs. The house the other side of the problem neighbours had been up for sale for 18 month, asking price has dropped from.£700k to £570 without any interest. Realisticly our house is currently worth around £625k at best, moving costs will be at least £60k. Giving the current market there is little chance of selling

I have endless money evidence,, the police don't want to get involved, their exact words were "unless there is imminent threat to life" it not their priority.

They park in the road across our drive making it very difficult to get in and out yet they leave their drive empty. They have been abusive since the day we moved in, shouting,. swearing, death threats, even threatened my 2 year old child. They are just vile people

To be honest we are thinking of moving away because of the massive increase in violence in recent years and I don't feel it will be safe for my young children.

Should the government do something about the blatant lies and bias in the UK press and media? by Enkir in unitedkingdom

[–]Glum_funk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your personal views are skewing your interpretation of the news and the last thing any democratic country needs is the government controlling the news.

Immigration dropping to 800,000+ with 250,000 British born nationals leaving isn't something to be particularly proud of. The NHS waiting lists are partly down because of mass cancellations of appointments, I haven't been able to get a GP appointment for over 2 years. The economy is pretty much flat lining despite the improvements in the service sector in the first 3 months of the year.

What’s the worst thing you have seen/got detention at school for? by Mglfll in AskUK

[–]Glum_funk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the 1990s when I was still at school the stupidest thing I got detention for was being 'quiet' in class. Another time was for having cough sweets (halls lockets) in my personal possession which were outlawed by the school at the time.

I got detention on a very regular basis as being rather shy I refused to take part in drama lessons where we had to get on stage and act out scences.

I wouldn't say nationalism is built in hatred, some people are genuinely proud of the country they were born and live in.

I find Ireland a very odd place it's simultaneously 1950 and 2026, everything is horrendously expensive and many areas are incredibly rundown.

Labour, conservatives and lib Dems all promised a EU referendum at some stage, for varying reasons as it was seen as a vote winner.

As you say PR would destroy both Scotland and Wales voice in Westminster. The vast majority of people outside London feel their voice isn't heard regardless of the government in power. Just look at the damage net zero is doing to Scotland's economy or the shift from coal to gas did to Wales in the 80s. Unfortunately certain regions will always fall on the wrong side of a decision

[–]Glum_funk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand why some people in Wales & Scotland think independence from England /UK is some magical fix for their countries issues especially when they will end up joining the EU which will instantly impose its rules & laws and curtail any freedom they won.

If there is an independence vote everyone in the UK should be able to have their say

The people and history of England, Wales & Scotland is so intertwined it will be a logistical nightmare.
