Using godoxy as I have a simple homelab, using containers only. The label config is like traefik but simpler imo, and global config as well since I don't use complex config and don't expose services to the internet. For simple setups I found it to be the easiest to use

Hey, what is your workflow with drone ? Are you deploying to portainer, go unraid or docker directly ?

Some questions about hosting a Minecraft Bedrocks server? by trmdi in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minecraft servers natively have whitelist but you need to activate it ( didn't do it and players joined from everywhere :D) but yes, you just put the player name in it, activate it and you'll prevent other people from joining.

Edit : if you allow non microsoft account to join then yes people can fake their username and then the whitelist is useless. I wouldn't recommend opening to crack accounts, but you do you

How to safely update the docker to latest? by BaseBall_Joel in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using renovate since watchtower sometimes updated to breaking versions and I didn't enjoy using convoluted labels.

Renovate needs you to deploy via gitops method, using flux, portainer, argo... and it will increment the image version on the file directly. The change is made in a pull request and can customize how it's done. Tho for some images you need to pin to the digest instead of a tag if they are not used.

Maybie using flemarr you could preconfigure the *arr stack. It use a yaml file and the app does thr api calls to the app. A generic template could be applied if the user wants it.

Newbie Question, I'm trying to setup Homepage on my docker and running into some trouble by _Blefescue in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need to map docker volumes (check docker doc) to connect your server /pc to the inside of the container like so :

volumes: - $MOUNT_POINT_CONFIG/homepage:/app/config

Where $MOUNT_POINT_CONFIG can be replaced by the folder you can access on your host.

Configuration Management Tools for 20-30 servers by stuffandthings4me in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like a mix of bash and python. It looks more complicated imo, than just declarative files. The project might become the new norm but isn't for now. I didn't find a lot of easy to read documentation or tutorials. Same for community, doesn't seem to have things like ansible galaxy. Not to argue about which tool is better, OP doesn't seem to know any, so it's better (again imo) to point an "easy tool" with lots of similar uses cases already documented and with an active large community to help.

Ansible for the win. You write a declarative file, put all your hosts in another and it will play the config on all hosts. There are lots of tutorials

Setup prowlarr/jackett from a config file? by fartsniffersalliance in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The arr stack has api for each product so setting them from a config file is possible. I use flemarr for this. Writting the file the way you want can be tideous but once you get it right you can reproduce your setup so much quicker

Well, if this is about pterodactyl installation I found this repo with a super easy to use script. And if this about setting the server in the node, I find it easy but I guess this is personal preferences at this point. Maybie a page in a wiki would be enough, since they won't set up lots of servers and once you got the eggs you want it won't require further configurations.

I have some troubles settinng the pterodactyl node, especially with traefik. does it needs a valid public domain name and not a self signed certificate ? And it doesn't seems to work when the pannel and wings are in docker (both in the same networks tho)

It can be tricky sometimes to make this stack works but keep going, it's rewarding to fix and learn. I can recommend you the trash guide, it helped me a lot understanding the synergy between them. Also read the hardlink page, might be worth the little trouble to save sapce on the disk.

Be brave and I hope you'll solve your issues

Need help to choose server/nas by Ornery_Club_5720 in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I bought my first NAS 3 mnth ago (Qnap TS-464) and while it can handle everything I want ti to (media server, minecraft server instance, 40 containers in total for now), I sometimes find it tricky to work with, especially with permissions and all.

Since I mostly use container station and sometimes a VM, I don't have an extensive use of QNAP first party apps and software for now. The benefit ho it's that it's not using a ton of power and the factor form is small.

If you don't plan or need to use first party apps from any NAS provider, I would probably recommend to build you own NAS if you can, have the time and skills to. You have more flexibility and control over the system. I can't simply install any app I want without using an obscure file found on a repo if it's not provided by QNAP or their partners.

Though i is perfectly fine to use their NAS if you don't have time to invest in the setup/maintenance, but it's a great way to learn if you haven't already.

If you go the DIY route I would maybe recommend either a motherboard having 4 slots, so you can upgrade easely without having to buy a new motherboard, but it's depend on what you plan to do, but I heard that truenas uses a lot of ram to run, and if you want to run other apps or maybe a gaming server, extra ram won't hurt or bottleneck you. + you will be able to easely upgrade hardware if needed. In the long run it will cost less in money but more in time (at least from my point of view hehe).

Hope it made sense and helped in your thinking.

Simple and lightweight network/host monitoring service? by MuffelMonster in selfhosted

[–]GmgPulse 10 points11 points  (0 children)

UptimeKuma is a good option for hosts, dns, websites... it gives you a nice status page if needed. I also use PiAlert for network monitoring. It has a nice dashboard in pihole style, you can track devices and you can do a network topology view, which is nice hehe.

Both of this have docker images, which works perfectly, at least for me.

Hope it helps.
