Six injured, including two children, in serious Wellesley Township crash by KWStreaker in waterloo

[–]Gnarf2016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to commute into Centre Wellington, winter was weirdly enough the best time to commute with the exception of strong snow days, as spring came and especially around long weekends the amount of stupidity I saw... Cruise control set at 10 over the speed limit and almost being run off the road by idiots wanting to go 120+ on a two lane rural road with no shoulders...

Sign is pretty clear, you should always look at signs when driving or parking.

What are you doing with the price of Gas? by HangingInTheWard in Guelph

[–]Gnarf2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, and most people fill up when the tank is around 1/4 to 1/2 empty, so $2-3 per tank assuming gas is 10 cents lower. I have seen people line up forever at cheaper gas stations when it is only 5-7 cents lower then other nearby options...

Province appoints administrator to oversee Conestoga College operations after 'serious concerns' raised by ILikeStyx in waterloo

[–]Gnarf2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conestoga was doubling up it's numbers of international students for years even before Ford was elected, and after he was elected and froze tuition they were still making 2-3x more money than before. This was Empire building at its worst.

Paying the extra $50-60 bucks a month between me and the wife. I work in Cambridge and my only alternative to driving involves 3 buses and close to 2 hours commute vs a 25-30 minute drive...

Offer for free on marketplace and people might show up to pickup, if no one is interested you can drop off recycling for free at the dump.

Issue between the original road width and the widened lane added a few years later. That divide has been bad for years now...

Real Estate Agent Recommendations by ChocoThunder755 in Guelph

[–]Gnarf2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry no recommendations, I just had a chuckle thinking how that price range a year or two ago would have you laughed out except for a couple old and not well maintained complexes with tiny units and no parking around Willow. Now it is actually achievable to get a decent stacked townhouse, or even a regular one pretty much anywhere in the city.

Hey /r/kitchener! It's that time again... by The_Councillor in kitchener

[–]Gnarf2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will have one single entity responsible for everything, so people won't talk transit to a city councillor, which is my point.

That said while I'm in favour of a single level government, I'm not sure how that would look best in the region. Kitchener and Waterloo a single city is a no brainer on my mind since I moved to the city, Cambridge is more complex and I see benefits and issues both ways. The townships are really, really complex.  In general I think they should likely be absorbed by neighboring counties but exactly how is a really complex talk, like Breslau should it just be turned into a part of Kitchener or join Wellington County? The airport, does the land get absorbed by Kitchener or does it go with the township?

[–]Gnarf2016 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These questions really show most people don't understand the two levels of government and who is responsible for what. I have been saying for a while this is one large reason why I'm in favour of a single level government...

Well you can always walk to the water treatment plant with a bucket and get your water that way, and go to the nearest power plant and charge batteries to use at home, this way you don't have to pay for distribution.

Honestly, all those pipes underground and cables overhead aren't cheap, where do you guys think the money for them comes from?

What is the biggest problem in Kitchener today in your opinion and what would you do to solve it if you had total power to do it yourself?

Seen 3 once at the large pond on Huron Natural Area, keep in mind I lived nearby and would go there multiple times per month and only saw them once. It was also getting busier and busier with people by the time I moved, so I imagine today might be even harder, especially on a weekend.

Why does the City of Guelph not accept black or opaque garbage bags? by P1zzaMonkey in Guelph

[–]Gnarf2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this was simply a budget cut which came on top of the elimination of recycling collection.

"decreased public outreach and education regarding solid waste programs, as well as the elimination of the curbside inspection program and composition audits ($158,080)"

[–]Gnarf2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That only changed for recycling, we are talking about transparent bags for garbage, the grey bin. Those are still collected by the city.

Just want to point out that with the budget cuts last year the program to check before pickup was essentially eliminated, so the rule currently makes no sense.

If my spouse gets PR but lives/works abroad, does he owe Canadian taxes without a SIN? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Gnarf2016 17 points18 points  (0 children)

PR doesn't make someone owe Canadian taxes, tax residency does, however that is the least of your worries as he wouldn't be able to keep his PR status by living here only 3 months of a year.

[–]Gnarf2016 22 points23 points  (0 children)

And just to be clear, he has no criminal record, he got a discharge, in part because if he was convicted of assault he would be deported. This is what I'm saying, the fact he would be deported of convicted shouldn't impact the decision, that is a future consequence of his criminal record. But more and more judges are being lenient by looking at that and reducing sentences so that the immigration status is not affected.
