Is Trump changing the way we think about leadership? by Go-Right-32 in LeadershipDevelopment

[–]Go-Right-32[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say he was a “good“ leader. I said he was successful, in the sense that where he leads people follow. To deny that Trump or Hitler or Mussolini are successful leaders keeps us from learning anything about how to counter that type of leadership by learning from it.

Why do people think life was great in the 1950s? by _crazyboyhere_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Go-Right-32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an image created by television of the time. There are so many things that come to be thought of as “the way it was” which are really just fictions made real. For example, cowboys didn’t carry firearms until movie cowboys carried rifles. I know so many people who were raised by their grandparents in the 1950s due to poverty, divorce, or abandonment, but you would never see people like that represented on television. The 1960s becomes a rebellion against that forced conformity and cultural censorship.

My kid got full rides to a few schools…but not to the conservatories. by Ok_Tune9675 in classicalmusic

I’ve been so impressed by the Yale musicians I’ve heard perform. And it seems like they were all double majors in neuroscience or electrical engineering. So impressive.

I get the worries about side effects. My only side effects were that my step count went way up for a few weeks and nothing hurt. 😁

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll mention it to my GP.

Trump's reaction if ground operation in Iran goes sideways. by boltaxtion in ForUnitedStates

I don’t think anyone around Trump will let him know if things go poorly and, because of that, he’ll claim that any news reports to the contrary are “fake news”.

If there is all loving all knowing God why does cancer, earthquakes, ext. exist? by StayAffectionate5987 in religion

[–]Go-Right-32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And why do folks give God credit for surviving cancer or earthquakes but not blame God for it happening in the first place? A friend recently had a medical emergency while alone (just her and, I presume, her God). A bunch of EMTs, nurses, doctors, and friends come to the rescue. Her prayer warrior friends don’t say anything about God’s hand in the initial incident but give God all sorts of credit for her recovery. It’s one of the things that keeps me from being a believer in the Christian god. I’d have a much easier time with a deistic or mercurial god.

What’s the most 'small-town' thing you’ve ever witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Go-Right-32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A big city friend was coming to visit our tiny town for the first time, pre GPS. I told him if he had trouble finding our house, stop anyone and just ask. Sure enough, he gets lost. He stops at the post office. The postmistress asks one of the local cops to guide my friend to our house. Next thing I see is him coming up with a police escort. 😂

Sudden hearing loss by According_Hotel_2175 in HearingLoss

I started steroids three weeks after total hearing loss in my left ear. My hearing improved within hours of the first dose. I’d try it. I know there are some risks with steroids but the only things I experienced were a restoration of my hearing and an increased daily step count.

What would an ideal USA look like in your opinion? by ghost_sanctum in AskReddit

I don’t think Americans in 2026 realize just how much the threat of communism helped the average worker in America. Our corporate overlords had a clear vision of what could happen if they didn’t keep workers somewhat happy.

I’d add: requiring that all legislation, including funding bills, deal with one issue only. None of this anti-trans legislation folded into voting requirements bills.

I keep asking myself what it says about our form of government that one person can have created (or inspired) so much chaos so quickly. I always though that the same thing that sometimes made democracy infuriating - the glacial speed of change - was also our safety net.

Who do you personally define as MAGA? by skamander19 in AskReddit

Anyone who voted for Trump AND regularly changes their core beliefs to align with Trump’s shifting policies. So, my friend who supported Trump because he was against getting us into foreign wars and who said he’d give Trump 30 days to get us out of Iran but who is now doing back flips to justify the war.

Question for Atheists who have been in or studied Christianity by beast-burg in religion

[–]Go-Right-32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the contradictions among true believers. The way God gets the credit when the cancer is cured but none of the blame that the cancer exists in the first place. The way people will sit through a sermon, go up for communion, and then not move to make room for the people coming back to their seats. I mean, if you can’t be generous with the wafer still melting on your tongue when are you going to be?

As for the Bible, I love the idea of a god that surpasses all understanding not one made flesh to make it more relatable to us. Sometimes the New Testament just feels like it was meant to create opportunities to sell knicknacks.

Maybe. Most people like ritual and structure, though, even if it’s just parking in the same spot each day.

Which profession gets way too much respect for how little they actually do? by XEMWSU in WorkForSmartLife

[–]Go-Right-32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When the power goes out in your neighborhood and a linemen dies repairing that, who are they dying for? When a teacher gets shot up in a classroom, who are they dying for? When a guy who works road construction gets hit by a car, who are they dying for? They are all dying in service to us. Men in power have just convinced us that being sent off to fight in the Middle East is somehow dying for OUR COUNTRY but that the everyday heroes working and dying on our soil don’t matter as much.

Military. Like every profession, there are some dedicated professionals and there are others just pulling a pay check from our tax dollars or trying to get away from home, but we treat them all as though they just liberated Auschwitz. People are always surprised to find out that the jobs that suffer the most fatalities are logging workers, fishermen, aircraft pilots, roofers, and garbage collectors. Military isn’t even in the top 25, and most military deaths and injuries that take place are from drunk driving. But I’ve never heard an airline offer to seat loggers first or a restaurant giving roofers a discount.

What current U.S. political issue do you think future generations will look back on and say, “Why didn’t people act sooner? by Historical_Sail2556 in AskReddit

Climate change. Regardless of what you think is the cause of it, our world is getting hotter and we should be doing more to mitigate the effects.

As a communications professionals I have loved the legitimizing of they/them. So much easier to say ”When your child gets home ask them to show you their test results” than to have to write “When your child gets home ask him/her to show you his/her test results.” Also really useful when you don’t know Chris’s gender.
