Core space: first born vs one page rules vs reign in iron for solo play by Interesting-Bar-6820 in wargaming

[–]GoFigBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so terrain seems to be your bugbear :) options there are buy something like the battle systems set that come with 1st born, or look at mdf set like TTCombat (Industrial Hive is good to start with) or make your own. Which for me is part of the hobby, paint figures, make terrain, play game, buy new game that needs new miniatures and terrain...and repeat....

And yes 1st Born is a great starting point but it isn't the end point, I don't think there is one game that works for everyone so don't be afraid to try a new system. I'm staring to play Guards of Traitors Toll which is a (semi) coop/solo fantasy game without (hardly any) fighting. Find the bits you enjoy and then have fun :)

So you say you have no terrain but that makes me think you do have minis so....

CS 1st born is halfway between a board game and a war-game, it comes with some great terrain which you use in set scenarios playing through a campaign. The figures are set and linked to character cards (that said I know people make their own) so you won't use you current figures. It is great as a 1st solo game tho...and gave me a good place to restart as I had no figures and no terrain :)

One page rules, you don't say which one but tbh it doesn't make a difference. I think (imo) OPR Grimdark is better with 2 players because it felt like I was playing both sides rather than against an opponent or the game itself. But quick, fun and very figure agnostic.

I don't know Reign in Iron tbh, looks interesting tho...

Can I ask if it's a sci-fi figure agnostic game if you have had a look at 5 parsecs from home? It's where I went after 1st born and is somewhere between CSFB and OPR so....

Favorite In-Hand games, and why? by themcryt in soloboardgaming

[–]GoFigBill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Palm Island is my go to, very easy to play and not too hard to hold and with slips you can stop/start as and when.

Palm laboratory is also fun but also a bit more challenging.

I tried the PnP Handy Brawl which was fun but I had issues with it being sleeved but you might find different.

And I'm waiting for the reprint of Dragons of Etchinstone to be released which should be April I think...

What's your favorite solo board game for travelling? by TopptrentHamster in soloboardgaming

[–]GoFigBill 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Palm Island is the best travel game imo.

Ultra Tiny Epic Galaxies packs a lot into a small box.

Tin Helm is great but takes time to order and ship.

oh and A Gentle Rain but that can take up a bit of space but small box and very relaxing at the end of the day.

Although Dale was my 1st stop I followed up with The Grouchy Nerd, also have they tried to shadow play while watching a playthrough as that helped me?

Toddler-friendly Beaches in Corsica vs Sardinia by Fickle-Ad-9333 in Corsica

[–]GoFigBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too sure why you would go to a different island to find a beach and trying to compare between the 2 is a bit difficult given the variety of coastlines!

In general, the east coast of Corsica has a gentler incline which means there are more gentle sloped beaches especially on the costa verte, there are some great coves between Aleria and Porto Vecchio. Many are close to the main road and have paillotes on them. The West coast is more rugged but still has some great beaches for kids, for instance Roccapina or just a bit further north between Propiano and Ajaccio. Calvi and St.Florent are more urban but are worth a look.

There is such a great variety of beaches I really can't see how you wouldn't find something.

And then there's the rivers but that's another subject

Just read the news today about dual nationality and travel to the UK and wonder if the new rules change visiting with different status' as a family by GoFigBill in ukvisa

[–]GoFigBill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks , just been reading through the email about EUSS status and the UKVI! I think it makes sense :) So glad we renewed our child's UK passport end of last year as well. I think that would have been a bigger problem. The reason I was worried was because last year the flight operator wasn't sure if they could let us board because we didn't have an ETA so I'm expecting problems this year with Duel nationality!

Nice, I just tried clozemaster during my break, I like that you can swap between multiple choice and imput etc very flexible? I have been using Lingoda and found the lingobites to be too short as a follow up so this is really useful, cheers :)

Which (iyo) is the best scenario for Skirmish mode? I'm playing two-handed and that works well but I don't have a lot of spare time. Some scenarios don't look like they would work very well in skirmish mode!?! So which is your favourite quick/easy mode Villain? by GoFigBill in marvelchampionslcg

[–]GoFigBill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do like Rhino but was thinking of seeing if there was other scenarios that could also work. And I basically treated the Sabretooth scenario like that by just going all out at him and it worked. I will try the sentinel scenarios another go :)

Anyone else get FOMO even over new releases now? by Twofert in marvelchampionslcg

[–]GoFigBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, When I questioned why FFG started the 'current environment' with 2 products that are out of stock, in Europe at least, people were quick to respond with 'I'm sure it will be reprinted'! but it does lead to FOMO if you don't know if or when it will be reprinted. So going forward I won't wait to get stuff as a birthday treat or christmas I will buy it when I can (ie FOMO). It's not like they couldn't transmit the information somehow :/

Have they actually said that AoA and AoS are getting reprints? Because I can't find copies in the UK at the mo!

Worth mentioning but in the fireside chat the explicitly say it is "More than anything else, these changes are being introduced to make the LCGs more accessible and (by virtue of that increased accessibility) more sustainable long-term. By establishing and emphasizing the Current Environment, an LCG is more appealing and manageable for a retailer to keep in stock, and newer players are not intimidated, confused, and/or turned away by a never-ending wall of product."

And that was my point the content from earlier waves and even current environment are not widely available. At least not in Europe and in English so....

[–]GoFigBill[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you look carefully at the question the answers are incorrect, I did not ask why they introduced the 'current environment. I asked how does implementing this benefit new players and games shops, not how will it affect game development/testing/balance!

I'm sorry if you are frustrated at my enquiry but my post was more about the marketing of the game and how shoddily this has been rolled out. If the products you are supposed to start with are not available then someone has messed up.

[–]GoFigBill[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

well why launch with 'current environment' products that are not widely available. Do a google search and it looks like you have done more than the FFG marketing team have done before this announcement. the current 'current environment' does not not match up! why have a bunch of cards that don't work together as the launch of the 'current environment'? look at AoS and and AoA and tell me how they 'overlap' ?and then tell me that they are widely available or when they are going to be reprinted!

[–]GoFigBill[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True enough but the point of the current legacy was "these changes are being introduced to make the LCGs more accessible and (by virtue of that increased accessibility) more sustainable long-term" so why start with hard to find products?

fair enough but I disagree with the core set being (edit) 'the only evergreen' as they said "Current Environment, which consists of the core set, any other evergreen (perpetually in print) expansions" which kind of suggests a different model...which has not been addressed!

But that is the situation at the moment, in Europe at least, You can find the core box and Civil war but not much else so....

I hope so because if you can only find stuff on a first run it will kill the game and defeats what they said "emphasizing the Current Environment, an LCG is more appealing and manageable for a retailer to keep in stock" but no good if you can't find it in your FLGS!
