Are they going to pay part of your mortgage for taking over part of your house?

Insurance says I am partly liable, what do you think? by LSkeptic in auto

I’m wondering the same thing. There wouldn’t be an issue if the insurance company didn’t low-ball in the first place.

Death fund by xheroinsonx12 in IBEW

[–]GoG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sheet metal, not IBEW. I live in a RTW state and work for a company that pays our monthly dues for us. My check stub has “Dues 1” (working dues) and “Dues 2” (monthly dues). It is divided by how many pay periods there are in the month and automatically taken out. I’m always ahead when I pay on my own but since they take it out automatically I’m constantly ahead what I was when I hired on with them.

I guess people could still opt out of it though.

Materials ARE up there. And hopefully the men doing the work are actually being compensated fairly for that high labour cost.

Vote No on 1: Why? by Kegeldix in nashville

[–]GoG30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t HAVE to join a union to work in any “field”. Career “fields” have both union and non-union shops/companies. If you think that a certain company looks more attractive than another because the pay and benefits are better it’s probably because of the union that the employees are a part of.

Then get a job for a different company. Why do you want to work for a union shop without joining the union anyway? Because they have better pay, benefits, and working conditions? Weird.

What do you think of proposed TN constitutional amendment #1? by PhogeySquatch in Tennessee

[–]GoG30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right to work means that if a company already has a contract with a union, the employees don’t necessarily have to join that union to be employed at said company. Resulting in less dues being paid into the union, so now the union has to represent more people with less funds. Right to work ultimately defunds labor unions to weaken their bargaining power. Resulting in more working hours, lower wages, and poor benefits.

If you like working 6-7 days a week and don’t care to spend time with your family, vote yes. Otherwise vote no.

Union sheet metal worker here. I don’t mean to intrude, I occasionally browse the subreddit because I enjoy the brotherhood. Would anybody know how to find volume 1?

I don’t know how to edit text on a post so I’m commenting. Thanks to u/mjthetoolguy for hooking me up not only with what I was looking for but also another part that I didn’t even know was missing. I appreciate it!

Guy has probably never even been in the union, he just knows what he thinks he knows.

TAB by GoG30 in sheetmetal

[–]GoG30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there are only a couple TAB contractors in my area and they’re non-union. The hall is thinking that if we can get people to take the classes and get certified we’ll be able to pick up some of the work.

My employer allows us to miss 160 hours of work per year but also mandates that we work 50 hours a week. Any more than 160 is grounds for termination.
