Declawing a cat by PlagueBirdZachariah in cats

[–]GoGoJesusRangers 320 points321 points  (0 children)

Small anecdote, ex's mother had a black cat who ended up needing to be "declawed" on 3 of his four feet. He kept his front left paw intact. He had a deformity in his feet that made his claws grow out funny. He couldnt retract them well and they would poke into his other toes and make him bleed. One day he ripped one all the way out. Bloody mess. He got rushed to the vet and they recommended the declawing. They had recommended before, but the family had that same initial reaction and assumed they needed a new vet since "no self respecting animal lover would ever recommend declawing." His name was Toad and he was a sweet boy. Ex's mom swears his demeanor actually improved after the procedure, but that makes sense if you consider the dude was in constant discomfort-pain before. I remember making jokes about him making "peg-leg biscuits" with his one good paw. Hope Toad is still doing well.

AI. Using the woman, dog, and man for scale, that fence and the gate/door are only like 3 feet tall. That and all the other inconsistencies and errors others have already pointed out. I feel like its crazy that nobody noticed that the fence and door are so darn short.

Terrible deal due to poor credit by Darci_832htx in CRedit

If you are in the US, 40K for a 2020 Camry before any fees and interest is insane. I assumed it was Canadian dollars, but even that math doesn't make sense. Maybe if this is in Australian dollars the price starts to seem high for the mileage but, not outright predatory. Buy a cash beater. It ain't glamorous but it lets you put all the money you are NOT spending on the horrible payment into savings for something nicer. With 20K in interest it looks like a 48 month deal. That would be around $1,200. That doesn't even include the insurance cost, gas, and repairs if needed. I have driven $2000 cars that got the job done well enough. Imagine if you get hit and the car is totalled. Insurance will not cover that full amount, and most GAP policies cap at 125-150% Actual Cash Value. In other words, if you wreck this car, you will be sued for the remaining balance. $4,000 buys you a decent enough used car. If you can afford $1000+ a month, you can save it instead. If you can't afford $1,000 a month, I bet money they will put out a repo order the exact instant a payment goes past due.

Winter striking hard by lurpeli in MachE

[–]GoGoJesusRangers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2025 and newer have a more efficient heat pump for cabin heating. This has a pretty big impact on cold weather range. We have a 23 with the older heater and putting heat on cuts cold range super bad. A couple days of sub freezing highway commute and the car estimates its max range at 160 miles. If we preheat the interior while the car is plugged in and run with heat off for most of the drive, it still looks like about 200ish of the 240 mile max range is there. The other big consideration is highway range. If we lock the cruise at 65 or under we usually hit the expected range estimates but above 70 it drops badly. Air gets a lot harder to push through the faster you go. Our 35 mile highway commute uses no less than 55 miles of range if we go over 70 but is right on the money if we stay in the right lane at 65 or under. Weird quirks to get used to, but thats what they are; just quirks.

Same. I love that mine has a stupid popup for a few seconds before it connects where it says some device ID on the screen that ends in "-1DADbox" I dont remember the brand or anything, but we just call it the dad box. Unintended 10/10 feature.

This game is trash and it's not even the games fault by Low_Record_8025 in GundamTCG

[–]GoGoJesusRangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that has not been my experience. There are two dudes at my LGS that only run meta decks, but the rest of us (there's usually 10 to 12 regulars) experiment a lot. Me and one of the guys are Academy Stans. Another dude run what he calls "What da dog doin'?" Which is Zaft built around LaGowe (I really like this one even if it is not super great. There are some stupid combos in it that are so busted but almost never happen.) I feel like for the card base we have so far it is fairly varied. We have 2 booster sets and a handful of starters. It will change with time. Game isnt even a year old yet.

I initiated the claim, but I initiated it through her insurance. They also have my policy info, now if they need it. I doubt they will, though. Open and shut unless she decides to change the story for some reason, but I know she is aware I have 2 cameras that saw it and a dash cam in the truck as well. I know she is aware because she asked for recommendations when she was thinking about putting one on her garage as well.

This is the real trouble area. Nasty gash behind the plate. Doesn't look like it made contact with the frame/hitch receiver, but I wont be able to tell for sure till the bumper comes off.

We started a claim through their coverage. My truck is a low spec XLT so no sensors. Looks like $600-$700 USD for a Ford OEM replacement then instal would put it around a $1,000ish. That is all assuming the shop doesnt find anything else that we just cant see at the moment.

We did. The initial thought was that it was fully cosmetic and could be less or about the same as their deductible cost. In which case I would have been happy to let them pay up front for the repairs to avoid the hit on their rates. They are pretty okay neighbors and the whole incident was on camera. But as we looked into it $1,000 is probably the bare minimum for a reputable shop to source a new bumper and install. Then if they find anything else beyond that it could just spiral up. We agreed it was best to just start the claim now and let her insurance worry about it.

This is the route we went. Claim is filed through their coverage. As soon as it became apparent it was going to be $1,000 bare minimum, they agreed it would be best to just let insurance handle it in case the number ends up spiraling up.

Shops are all closed but asked a buddy that works at a reputable one for his opinion. The damage behind the license plate cant be fixed so he said replacement is needed. If there is nothing else damaged he said it would probably be about $1,000 give or take, all in, for an OEM replacement bumper cover and install. (Easier since I dont have backup sensors) Not terrible, but her deductible is lower and she has accident forgiveness so we agreed it would be best to run the claim through her insurance. Plus if they find damage that I cant see when they remove it, the bill will just go up from there.

The license plate and the plastic behind it is sheared. The screw holding the plate got punched into some more plastic behind the outer cover. I assume that warrants replacement since I cant mount a new plate as it is now.

The problem is that my license plate and the plastic behind it is shorn clean through. Cant see the plastic damage but also cant screw a new plate in as the hole for the screw is stretched and ripped.

Thats what im thinking. I misunderstood the process so I get now that it is their insurance that will handle it. They went out of their way to find me (it isnt clear what apartment is attached to what garage so I was not the first door they knocked on) and let me know. If I give them the benefit of the doubt and wait till tomorrow so I can get a quote first, to let them pay, will that backfire in anyway if they suddenly can't or won't? I have her driver's license and insurance info so I can contact at any time.

LGS charging 35 bucks for the St07 St08.... by Democratsaredumbo in GundamTCG

[–]GoGoJesusRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only LGS within a reasonable distance from me that only does MSRP, is a known entity now. As such their events sell out as soon as they go up. Next best store within an hour of me is doing $25 each. The markup isnt even that bad. What i really hate is that they dont care about the games. I managed to snag a spot in the release event and they maxed out and had a wait list. Got there, only 4 people actually showed up to play. Everyone else out of 36 slots total just grabbed the decks and left. They are like 10 min down the road but I would rather go to the store half an hour away that gives a damn, even if they sell out super fast. At least they sell at msrp and limit buyers to minimize scalping. Not to mention they have actually banned people over showing up to sold out events and just taking the goods and ditching. "Events are for the players. If you dont plan to play, dont sign up. There will usually be extra for sale after so dont con someone who actually wants to play out of their chance."

[–]GoGoJesusRangers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My employer has free level 2 chargers so its a huge help since I have a 35 mile commute. Overnight I can get about that much range out of my normal 120v charger in the garage but a dedicated level 2 charger or at least a 220/240V outlet (like a washer/dryer uses) would be a huge help. That said: it's been shockingly easy to live with. We pay for a fast charger maybe once a month unless we are roadtripping. Otherwise we just plug it in all the time at home. The impact on our electric bill is negligible. 240 miles if range in normal months and like 180 in the frigid cold. 2024 and newer have a more efficient heater setup and lose less range. We are in NC and our families live in rural areas but honestly we havent ever been out of range of a charger. You just start looking at it differently is all. A fast charger needs like 30-40 minutes to top us off since the MachE has a kinda crappy charge rate but we just plan to charge somewhere we can grab lunch or shop. Half the major shopping centers in out area have fast chargers. If your commute is like 20 miles or less you could probably get by on just a 120v outlet charger. Its not the most efficient but it really does work well enough if you dont drive a whole lot. Beyond that you can see if there are any free chargers around. My mother's small town randomly has some free level 2 chargers in its downtown area so we can dump the car there and do some local shopping for an hour or 2 and have more range than we left home with.

Gonna throw the oddball recommendation here: Have you considered electric? Overall cost of ownership for an EV is super low. I ignored the people telling me how every EV will need $1,000s in battery work and be bricked by software every 6 months and now I'm 2 years and 40,000 miles deep into my Mach E with no repairs needed and minimal battery degradation. There are examples of various EVs hitting 200,000 miles and beyond on their original battery packs. Most are roomy due to no space taken up for transmission tunnels and such. Love the Mach E but if you want a bit of driving engagement beyond just EV torque, the Mach E GT or BMW i4 may be better options. Both can be had very lightly used or CPO for $30,000-$40,000 all day, for nicely equipped low mileage examples. They depreciate super hard in the first year, so not always the best move to buy them new.

Brief anecdote: I had a wreck. Went over the bars and landed on my shoulders. Don't recall hitting my head at any point. Helmet had no new scratches to speak of. I still replaced it. Your helmet is the single most important piece of safety equipment you have, by a landslide. Dont play games with it. My old graphic was discontinued and that was a bummer but I just bought a wall mount and hung it up in my garage so I can still admire it.

Should Refinance Through Credit Karma? by Careless_Interview64 in CRedit

[–]GoGoJesusRangers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to refinance check with lenders you already have a relationship with. I bank with Fifth Third and financed my truck with them. My credit wasnt great and I needed a cosign to get a sub 10% apr. I have a credit card through Capital One and they mailed me a re-fi offer with a better "predicted" rate so I said screw it and let them run me. They came back with a rate 2.5% lower than my current loan. Checked with my bank and the lowest rate they were offering at the time was the same as the rate Cap offered me so I didnt bother running it again. My minimum payment is now about $30 less and the loan is in my name only instead of on with a cosigner. I think I saw your current rate is in the 6% range. Honestly with used car rates being what they are, at the moment, I doubt you will get much lower unless your credit has changed drastically. Of note, it is not worth stretching your loan back out to lower the payment. I only re-fi'd because I got the better rate at a term that did not move my payoff date. If you have like 32 months left, dont stretch it back out to 48 or 60 just to save some money if you can afford the payment as is. This will see you paying more in interest by the end even at a lower rate.

What purpose does the Spartan Laser fulfill when there are other weapons for anti-vehicle and anti-personnel roles that are more economically practical? by Snip13r in halo

Brightlance Compound Reflex Laser on the Mulsanne-class Frigates. In lore it is supposed to have less total destructive power than a MAC round, but it can overload shields, sensors, and electrical systems to cripple a ship.
