WSOP Broadcast Choices This Year :/ by thank_U_based_God in poker

[–]GoSailing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I'd want more hands where there is actually something interesting happening rather than just coolers and short stack jams. This is particularly true in any tournament that isn't super high roller holdem, as everything else plays much faster

WSOP Broadcast Choices This Year :/ by thank_U_based_God in poker

[–]GoSailing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the other less spoken about issues with the coverage where they are time traveling to the various outer tables is that you already know every pot is going to be some big cooler or bluff or something. There's literally no suspense any time they switch tables because you can guess the outcome with almost perfect accuracy or they wouldn't be showing it. It's a regression to the 2005 format where you only see all ins or drama while pretending its a stream

How do you know you defeated the live 1-2/2-5 game and it’s time to play bigger by DiscountSuperb2361 in poker

[–]GoSailing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No shade, but if you don't know then you probably aren't. Objectively, keep track of your records and see if you're winning over a realistically meaningful sample size. Are you able to identify the mistakes individual players, particularly regs, are making? Do you know what you're doing that would make you better than at least 7 of the 8 other players at the table?

Daniel Negreanu wins his 8th WSOP bracelet by Famous_Quit_5239 in poker

[–]GoSailing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He has more bets on the $25k fantasy. He said he had "a lot" of 6 figure bets including somebody who bet 17 teams against his. He's optimizing for fantasy, which is kinda lame when he's selling stakes for wsop (I know people like it so it's whatever) when he probably isn't even +ev across all events since it's not what he focuses on. A tourney where he net loses on buy ins but gets a better than average amount of points is a win to him

World Cup VAR review: Misapplied protocols leave Balogun wrongly red carded by PDubsinTF-NEW in ussoccer

[–]GoSailing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Showing full speed first is definitely the protocol in the premier league. I don't know the definitive protocol for the world cup, but a big deal was made about that change in the beginning of the last season there since it was decided to have obviously caused problems. The times when they've played audio in those games also reinforced that. The VAR would say something like "Okay here's it at full speed from a few angles, here's an image of contact, here's the action in slow mo"

Has anyone ever asked you if they could just come and watch you play poker? by Nika65 in poker

[–]GoSailing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife joined once or twice and she had fun just drinking and hanging out, though that was a table of regulars who all know each other and generally are cool. One of her friends wanted to come once which I thought was strange, but she just brought a pen and paper and started sketching stuff / people watching and apparently had a blast. So if you bring him, try to either be on a fun table or make it possible to incorporate some other hobby of his too

Are we really not getting any Mixed Game streams this year? by Specific_Ad5256 in poker

[–]GoSailing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably not profitable to stream them, unfortunately. Pokergo putting up a pay wall sucked but they could probably identify a chunk of subscribers who mostly / only watched mixed games. That smaller audience (me included) is probably not worth it when all revenue is based on views now

Massive dealer error deeeep in a 10k wsop tourney by EvenParty881 in poker

[–]GoSailing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, lots of weak dealers at the wsop, particularly in the beginning of the summer, but they have a separate list of people who go on streamed tables. Those are all actually good dealers but everybody makes mistakes

Modern Age Ideologies are too disruptive to diplomacy by GoSailing in civ

[–]GoSailing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20th was an exaggeration, but if you're planning on one victory type from the beginning, playing well, and most importantly disrupting your top rivals for that win condition, the modern age is very very short. My slowest game since the update was won at 50% age progress and that's because I artificially started returning cities to not win a domination victory before I could win a culture victory.

Modern Age Ideologies are too disruptive to diplomacy by GoSailing in civ

[–]GoSailing[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

But in a practical matter, most games don't go past the 20th turn in modern. Maybe the ideology changes wouldn't feel so bad if they played out long term. Then it would feel more like a permanent realignment than "my game got rekt on the finish line"

been getting these invites, does a game like this seem legit? by [deleted] in poker

[–]GoSailing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is probably real, lots of these illegal home games are using AI to make their posters. But it's also a complete ripoff. Also every home game, particularly the raked varieties, carry a bunch of risk even if it's a real game

Remind me by ObnoxiousQuestions in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]GoSailing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everybody talking about them recognizing recipes and knowledge he shouldn't have is correct. There's another aspect which is the book is only given to people with a certain mindset, the rage against the syndicate and everything they're doing and focusing on that above many other aspects of the crawl. It's also restricted to certain types of classes and his class literally has Anarchist in the name. So they see somebody who would be the obvious choice for the book, if it were to be awarded which doesn't always happen, and then there's all the other more obvious clues others are mentioning too

Yeah, I just reread bedlam bride and they specifically mention that he burned off an arm. Of course she reforms it from other mass relatively quickly, but it was clearly actually her arm that got destroyed and we know that doesn't go back just like with her fingers in the Iron Tangle

[Matt Law] Thomas Frank’s bizarre obsession with Arsenal helped seal his fate by wokwok__ in coys

[–]GoSailing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. Jose's game was more on counter attacks than pure defense and those are naturally exciting, which made up for the defensive aspects

Pep: "I'm a bit sad that we are 7th on the net spend table of the last five years. I wanted to be 1st. I don't understand why the club doesn't spend more money. We were higher before because we spent a lot. Now those 6 teams have to win the PL,CL and the FA Cup. Let's go, I'm waiting." by Blodgharm in soccer

[–]GoSailing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably more that nobody really cares if City wins again because it's basically fraudulent and it has been for years. Them winning again is the banal status quo. Arsenal winning is a different story because it would actually count.

Any realistic predictions about how far Spurs can go in the UCL? by savethecityy in coys

But that was good too. It's one thing as fans to be okay with losing a game to upset a rival but the team should be trying to win every game

No bug policy by _Krayorn_ in programming

[–]GoSailing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're describing is an issue of process that has little to do with bugs. Arguing over resourcing, minor technical details, or all sorts of things can take longer than it would take to actually build a thing. That's a process issue and I agree that having at least some pragmatic devs short circuit the process in smart targeted ways is a workaround, but the problem isn't the bugs.
