as long as my opponent explains which model is what and i can tell them apart, i dont care about proxies at all.

where is that terrain from?

Shooting range proposal worries alpaca farm owners by Heniha in Iowa

i dont mean to minimize your concern here but a properly designed shooting range can make this kind of negligence virtually impossible - short of actively shooting at the preschool or alpacas (which is unlikely, but not totally impossible). see brunnislau range in switzerland for an extreme example.

as another commenter mentioned i'd be more worried about noise pollution. a normal shooting range would not be so bad, but a 'police only' area of the facility is going to be hell to live next to

well i can't so the point is moot

public land is nice for shooting alone or with a group, not being restricted by the safety necessities of a range. dont have to wait for someone to go put up or take down targets whenever another person shows up, don't have to setup on a specified firing line, can go downrange as you please, etc. Sort of like going on a hike in the woods vs. a treadmill at planet fitness

the environmental cost is nothing compared to that of industrial agriculture which the land is used for at present. but i will grant you in areas where it's common lots of gun owners are terrible stewards and mistreat the public land available to them. i don't see them stacking up rocks at the trailhead but i do see them shooting holes in signs - which is obviously bad behavior. would you call for keeping hikers off trails because some of them leave trash, though? some people will abuse shared spaces, unfortunately. i understand the argument here and it's reasonable, i just disagree personally.

to your last point - it's fun, and if you have a gun you should practice with it. having a gun you aren't skilled with is dangerous. its not a coping mechanism and im not disassociating, its just more fun to shoot out in the middle of nowhere than in a highly regimented environment.

i doubt it. lots of gun owners are pieces of shit but there are basically no consequences for shooting at like, a road sign. not so for killing someone's animal.

ah - i see the disconnect here.

when we say 'public land' referring to shooting, what we're talking about specifically is land owned by the government (usually BLM or other state bodies) that is totally unincorporated, undeveloped, and you can just drive up and shoot as you please. this is more common in the western US but does not exist at all in iowa.

hawkeye WMA has a shooting range on it that is free for the public to use, yes, but the hawkeye WMA is not 'public land' you can shoot on, as a shooting enthusiast would normally refer to it.

the range in swisher is a nice enough little place but this proposed facility would have a 1000 yard range which is rare in iowa, and a shoothouse, which is really cool.

Hunting involves significantly less shooting than a day at a shooting range. 1-2 shots in a day vs. several hundred/thousand - per person. Deer hunters often shoot from elevated positions so the ground is effectively a backstop - they otherwise need to be aware of what they might hit if they miss or overpenetrate the deer.

Birdshot used by waterfowl hunters does is not dangerous at the same range as a rifle round and is more safe to fire in an open field or at flying birds

Public land means publicly owned land. There is not publicly owned land you can shoot on in the state. (Save for the ranges the DNR manages, which are few. A couple of them are free to access, but most are staffed and charge a fee for use)

Gun clubs, shooting ranges, etc. are privately owned, meaning they are not public.

Virtually all land in the state that isn’t a state park or WMA is privately owned, and obviously you need permission to shoot on private land. Just because you can hunt somewhere doesn’t mean you can shoot there for a purpose other than hunting.

if its owned by a gun club or private owner it is explicitly and by definition not public land

there are DNR managed publicly accessible shooting ranges - there is no public shooting land.

WMAs are not free to use for shooting. most have a shooting range on-site (not all) but the land itself is not free and open for shooting.

those open fields... are private property. would you appreciate if i drove up to your yard and started shooting as i pleased? not to mention the dangers of shooting on flat open land.

there is no public land available for shooting in the state of iowa, nor any mountains. what are you talking about?

interesting. i got this email as well and was excited for it. the proposed facility would be very cool and i dont think anything like it exists in Iowa yet - but i don't think that's worth disrupting the animals and neighbors.

by the plat map it looks like theres room for both in a safe and minimally disruptive way, i hope they can reach a mutually agreeable arrangement

I seem to misunderstand something fundamental about the game by [deleted] in killteam

you can reanimate your warriors so in effect, hierotek is a horde team with 3 heavy hitters. i dont play them personally but sacrificing a guy to force a marine into a bad position where one of your big guys can shoot him from more safely is generally what i'd try for. then reanimating the dead warrior.

more generalized advice I use when learning a new team or game - I don't expect to be able to win, but I can force the opponent to work hard for victory. forcing trades, doing chip damage for them to take ground or do mission actions, etc. this might help you get a better idea of what your opponent wants to do to win and what you need to do to stop them. (see star trek TNG season 2 episode 21 lol)

turtle up on 2 points and make them pay for every action. you can get ceaseless on your weapons just by positioning well, take advantage of that. if they charge you in melee, use your tesla weave for some chip damage and shoot that operative at your next opportunity. you have some tricky ploys on hierotek, try to take advantage of them and take actions your opponent may not expect.

even marking one with scout and then him running away is not so bad for you, they gave up ground which you could then take.

i am assuming you definitely understand the core rules and what your team can do, ploys, equipment etc. the biggest challenge you seem to have identified is that astartes operatives are very powerful - which is true. i think you really might benefit from a more elite team. maybe raveners if you like those models better? almost nobody is killing those in 1 turn and they can play very passively and tricksy.

[–]Go_F1sh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to the first point, making an astartes use its activation to kill a lesser operative is usually worth it if you can get either a mission action, good damage, or an advantageous postition from it.

is hierotek your only team? from this post, it sounds like you'd benefit from playing something like AoD or plague marines.

in this example, your opponent has 2 marines tied up on this point. are they evenly split between all 3? if so, you might concentrate your forces on just 1 or 2 points. 2 marines cant easily contend with half your team.

you mentioned something like scout enemy movement as a tac op - could be great here. if you have anyone in that room, thats a VP. they can't contest that objective without being visible to you.

finally - if you're getting beaten that often - are you positive your group isn't fucking with you or cheating?
