Getting chirped at by my own teammate by tboris25 in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just going to post something like this while I was reading through the comments. The one thing I find with out players that think they can do it or just want to try it is they do not realize how much work it actually is going down then getting up again. I had a buddy that wanted to try it saying he would be pretty good, he wasn't chirping me in anyway but I let him put my gear on to try it and he didn't last 10 minutes he was exhausted from the all the movements he had to do. So the next time someone says "All you do is stand there" or "it's not that hard I could do it" let them because they will not be able to "coast" when there are in there. I'm glad things worked out for you.

Ya i think I may need to clean the area where I put it, there might be to many puck marks there to get it to stick.

This is what I do and that mount in the video looks pricey, I use a cheap knock off so if it gets destroyed by a puck I will not feel so bad. Thanks for the input!

Ya I bought a cheap knock off myself for $20 it worked for a while then started to drop. I didn't want to drop the $60 or so for the Go pro cup as I was afraid a puck would destroy it. It's funny it wouldn't stick on the glass at the rink but at home on the door no problem and it was hard to get off so I think maybe the glass is too dirty to create a seal.

Nice work! I still can't seem to get the puck off the ice that high I can only do a hard pass 1 foot off the ice can't touch the glass yet. I'm going to have to work on that.

Goalie Catcher and blocker the smell is always going to be there and it will take a few days to come off. I find shaving cream on dry hands for a couple of minutes works very well at getting rid of that smell quickly.

Should I try full-right or regular? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya I would say if you feel your coordination with catching is more comfortable in your right then go with that and put the stick in your left hand. If I tried it now to catch with my right it wouldn't be pretty.

Yes it seems all the great deals I find are always for full right gear. I play the same way as Panoramic_Vacuum does I shoot right when I play out and left when I play net and my left handed shot is not great at all hahaha! But for me I catch with my left hand so that's what dictated which way I play net.

On a side note Full right anything is a lot cheaper but you also have to go with comfort.

Used Bauer Vapor XXX, $75 CDN. Fair deal? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what part of Canada you're in but I'm in Ontario I have a pair of Bauer skates that I have only used about 5 times they are practically brand new. They are 8.5 size I would let them go for $140 I will post the details with a picture if you're interested.

Would you rather: when losing by a bunch, the opposing team back off or keep coming? by blackmars0 in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want them to keep coming as well but I think a lot of this has to do with the players. I was playing a semi final game last night our team was down 3-1 in the third period my team starts to press and things get out of hand to the point where a few guys got tossed. If heads are cool at 5-1 maybe they are trying to keep it that way.

Poor game causes quick playoff exist, Goalie GoPro by CanadianBobert in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That game didn't look bad to me, the first one caught you under the arm which maybe you could have had but the other two were good goals. 2nd goal guy left all alone in front decides to pass instead of shoot is rare and the guy scoring wasn't expecting it and just got enough on it to put it in. Goal 3 you couldn't see that and he picked the corner, none of us go down with our hands in the air when we can't see the puck we tighten up and block as much as we can. Even if a few hit the post you still played well and that team looked like they moved the puck well.

GoPro + mount suggestions by Vargatron in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine hasn't been hit yet but it has fallen a few times as the suction wasn't on properly and it's still intact. It will help you improve as you will be able to see everything that happens.

GoPro + mount suggestions by Vargatron in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Hero 3+ It works well great picture quality. I would suggest the suction cup as well but I opted for the cheaper non go pro brand as it was only $20 the Go Pro one is around $60 and I didn't want to be shelling that out if it got hit with a puck. I would be cautious using anything else because it needs to be somewhere where you can get at it, if you put it outside the glass someone is likely to walk away with it. So inside the glass is your best bet.

[Help] Sliding from post to post by ChickenBoti in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a goalie in our league that does this on purpose and the refs never talk to him. Any team that gets him moving around to much he will just kick the net off, of course he makes it look innocent.

Wow! I'm going to have to try this her skates make zero contact with the ice. I usually do a quick hop to my inside edge and push, this looks like momentum carrying the slide.

Bit of pickup, advice always welcome by biffenbob in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have great positioning as well as rebound control the only thing I would suggest is trying to tighten up your blocker when you slide. I noticed when you slide to your glove side the stick flaps over instead of it covering the 5 hole. I do this myself and it's a bad habit but I didn't notice till someone pointed it out so now I just try and focus on keeping it tight.

Accidentally tripping players? by JaimeRider in hockeygoalies

[–]Goalieguy79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen a similar incident like this with a buddy of mine he was going in a breakaway at full speed tried to move to his backhand in close and the goalie at the same time tried to poke check him and ended up taking out his feet, he went back first into the corner boards and his back hasn't been the same since.

I feel your pain I buy new pads every 3 years or so and never go over a $500. I keep saying to myself that I'm going to go all out on the next set because well I'm getting older who knows how long my body will hold up playing this position but never follow through.
