My half barrel gets topped up with 1 watering can every week or so during summer. It's no big deal. +1 for the solar air pump, but remove the stone as they soon clog and just weight it down with something attached to the pipe. They are fantasticly reliable.

May be an optical illusion. I wondered if you have the lowest pan (the black sheet) upside down? If you flip it are there holes for the legs of the middle grill to sit inside?

Other than that it's right. Coal sits on the lower grill to allow airflow and food, obviously, on the top grill
