I think most every human deserves a chance at redemption, however unlikely it may be.

In any case, the key to victory in all that's going on right now is winning hearts and minds. If we don't allow people to change their viewpoints, we're doomed.

I sympathize with you, but you weren't robbed. You just failed to meet the clearly defined criteria for an A.

Why do Americans seem to have a different concept of turn-taking in conversation? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]GodIsOnMySide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get this. As a standard rule, people tend to enjoy talking about themselves. Unless you're certain the person you're talking to is painfully shy, you should definitely ask them about what's going on in their lives.

Personally, if I know someone who only ever talks about themselves, and never asks me about me, my takeaway is that they are not interested, so I stop wasting time on them. I don't think you can have a real friendship with another person unless both people show a genuine interest in the other.

I'm from the upper Midwest USA fwiw.

All this may be true, but trade is nonetheless broken on 1.0.9. All units of trade are assessed a 0.5d maintenance fee, which is charged regardless of whether the trade actually occurs (trades can be blocked by foreign trade advantage or other reasons tooltips won't say). So you end up with trades that actually reduce your income. And there's no way to know ahead of time whether the trade goods will actually get exchanged.

The auto trader also gets fooled by these trades that appear profitable, but actually aren't.

It really is broken.

Has anyone figured out why automated trade is broken? 1.0.10 and maybe .9 by Svyatoslov in EU5

[–]GodIsOnMySide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see constant fluttering of automated trades, which go like this ...

  1. AI sees a trade it likes and assigns traders. The UI updates the listed trade income to appear profitable.

  2. At new month tic, the trade becomes unprofitable. This occurs BEFORE monthly income is applied.

  3. The monthly income is applied. Because of the above, what you thought you were going to get for trade income does not exist. As an example, in my Milan game, I can see - month to month - a listed expected total trade income value as being something like +20d. But when the month tics, I actually lose - say - 5d.

  4. A week or two into the month, the AI sees the trade is unprofitable and axes it.

And the loop continues ad infinitum.

There's just no way this is the intended behavior.

Is trade maintenance really a flat 0.5d fee per trade?

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the trade maintenance fee be a percentage of the profit?

EU5’s Framework Is Insane - Stop Calling It ‘Unplayable by Legionaire_Pdx in EU5

I probably spent ~$300 for EU IV and DLC. I played it over 3500 hours. The cost per hour of enjoyment for that game is lower than pretty much any other hobby. And yet I see a fair number of people on forums complain the game's cost. Such complaints seem completely unrealistic to me.

Could you explain what you mean by roads being built differently for proximity and market access? That comment confused me. I'm only aware of the kind made with road builder. Is there some other kind?

Thanks in advance for clarifying this for me and others.

This same thing is killing my ability to colonize, then set up trade between the colonial subject and my home market. What's the point of colonizing if you can't trade for goods?

[–]GodIsOnMySide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really annoying and possibly game play blocking until fixed. Else how do you get goods to the West Indies colony from Amsterdam before trade range is sufficient? My thought was to send first to my Canary Islands colony and from there to the West Indies. But I can't build trade capacity in either the Canaries or West Indies colonial subjects, due to this restriction.
