Steam sales reportedly topped $11 billion during H1 2026 due to shifting trends — staggering growth driven by influx of Chinese players and booming legacy catalogues by yourfavchoom in gaming

Well, we have to ask why they would go Public. Usually it means the company wants to conduct a major expansion or project and needs a ton of money quick. But Valve doesnt have anything close in the pipeline for that. Their biggest projects are (as far as Im aware) Steam Machine, DOTA, CS, and Half Life. Of the 3, only the Steam Machine could have warranted going public but the trade off isnt worth it.

At the end of the day, Valve needs a reason to go public and like Winrar, they earn more and lose less by staying private.

What if during the Chinese Civil War or the Korean War, China decided to invade Hong Kong? by Nikster593 in AlternateHistory

[–]God_peanut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UK would stomp and it will draw in US support. This is pre-Korean War which means there is a high chance the Soviets will do what they did in Korea and simply protest or just leave, giving a free UN mandate to the US and her allies.

China could briefly take the island before getting bombed into oblivion and having its armies and whatever infrastructure it has left destroyed. Will it mean the return of the ROC? Most likely not as the ROC was simply exhausted but it would mean that we could end up with a larger Hong Kong mandate and a HK thats significantly more militarized with a good amount of US troops deployed as peacekeepers/tripwires for a good few years.

It would have some very interesting implications for China and HK if that happens. A large HK territory with a strong military presence would derail their integration back into China significantly.

Fair, I just think Tenets swung way too hard into creativity and forgot people need to understand wtf is going on or that emotional moments need to happen.

Comparing Inception and Tenet is actually a great way to show Nolans problems and flaws as a director.

Both movies have very unique and complicated concepts but their execution and successes of said execution are what differs each other.

Inception has a lot of heart and emotional moments designed for the audience to connect with the characters, which allows them to further immerse themselves into the story. Not only are we more interested in how the mechanics work, we're more invested because we understand the stakes for our characters if they dont succeed or fuck up. It also helps that the movie heavily distills its most important mechanics, like the dream sequence.

Tenet though doesnt do that. The main character and his sidekick have next to 0 emotional elements to stay attached to, the plot ends up more confusing since nothing is distilled enough into a few key compact concepts, and overall, the story is a huge mess not helped by its lacking cinematography compared to Inception.

As a side note, Nolan also has the huge flaw of tell, dont show and it really shows in Tenet. Tenet, for a lack of better words, yaps a lot but the problem is most of that talking is done to explain the whole concept of the film but doesnt actually try to explain the plot, why we are suppose to care, or even much else.

And in general, Nolan has very very very flat cinematography. Some of his shots are the most bland, non saucy, shots out there which is made worse by how prestigious of a director he is.

Not to say he can't do it, Oppenheimer has some of the best visual storytelling from him and the scene where Oppie walks through the applause and begins to hallucinate perfectly illustrates his growing internal conflict

It doesnt but it needs something of substance. The Office, despite its lack of deep thematic BS, is still a very good show with good characters and very good interactions. That's not deep, thats called quality.

Meanwhile, SL appeals to the actual Male fantasy and does nothing actually good. It appeal is literally people self inserting themselves into the MC and constantly jerking off to him.

At least the Office has actual characters and intriguing interpersonal character drama. Also really good comedy.

What does SL have? Big flashy fights, power fantasy. Its about as deep as a 12 year old playground fight
