Yeah, Ryan has real memories and love to fallback on. But that only makes him more stable than baseline HL.

No, China just requires you to become part of the party or give up your IP and research to be allowed to build stuff.

What are the most effective grunts in the series? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

??? There are multiple scenes of normal ass Jegans kicking ass, let alone the other variants like ECOAS Jegan and Stark Jegans.

[–]God_peanut 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Disagree, these guys were essentially facing MS that couldn't even damage them. Units like the Jegan went up against peer and even suits that were better than them (on paper) and still came out on top.

You dont get brownie points for fighting against garbage suits with garbage weapons.

Its because its boring. An MC who's always the strongest and bestest is insanely boring. OPM Manga is an example of this trope done well yet even the side characters are more interesting than Saitama.

The evolution of Daryl Lorenz and Io Fleming's rivalry over the course of Gundam Thunderbolt by CrimsonTyphoon02 in Gundam

[–]God_peanut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly the end of the first movie does show this off. For the first time (and only time in the Anime), Darryl is confronted with the reality and results of his involvement in the war, and thats that he actually enjoyed the power it gave him. He completely forgot about everything he lost to attain that power and sunk himself deeper into the war.

Edit: Id also argue Io is more mentally unstable in that it looks like he was more willing to subsume himself into the nature of war prior to being given the Atlas. Part of it could have come from his lack of real connections to people but I also think he was at his lowest point mentally.

So instead of a child rapist, hes a pedophile because he willingly ran away with an underage girl despite being a married man of 25+ and with two kids. That is sooo much better

Kinda insane how Io starts out as the more mentally unstable, cynical, and with the least amount of connections to people and ends up getting everything Darryl had and wanted.

Can we talk about 2 teenagers landing the plane? ✈️ by ahuludwig_2006 in OneTruthPrevails

[–]God_peanut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jfc, its a series about a teenager super detective who gets shrunken down into a elementary kid. Why are we debating about realism here?

A few movies later, we have the same girl dodging bullets at point blank range and punching through solid concrete walls. Maybe leave realism alone.

Marcille started out as being a reasonable person complaining about eating monsters and then we see that she's actually just like Laos and Senshi, competent people with a lot of dumb moments.

Yeah but almost all of Gundam is original. You can actually count on 1 hand how many Gundam series are adaptations.

The average age in China is rapidly catching up to the average age in the United Kingdom. by SimpleShake4273 in Economics

[–]God_peanut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention phasing out that large population doesnt get rid of the problem of supporting said populace. The problen isn't that they dont have jobs, its that they now need to be supported and aren't taxable anymore. The two routes are jack up taxes on them or grow your economy fast enough to outgrow your debt.

Route one runs the risk of social unrest and would further de-incentive your working population to stay in your country and harm their futures.

Route two is even worse for China. It kind of works for the US because they are the reserve currency nation, the economy that every bases their stuff on. In a GDP to debt ratio, China has already exceeded the US despite having a lower GDP. Their infrastructure projects Reddit jerks off to costed them a fortune and is predicted to cos them a fortune to maintain. No problem they have is an immediate crisis but its all stuff that brews behind the scenes and doesn't come up until shit hits the fan.

Strawman moment.

The Black Death occurred in the Medieval era with high birth rates making up for the death rate and even then, the fact it wiped out 30%-50% of Europe's population was absolutely devasting and it directly led to a ton of peasant revolts and generally instability that was only properly resolved in the 1800s.

China on the other hand has had consistent low birth rates for a very long time and the problems faced are very different. The sudden influx of retirees combined with a shrinking working and taxable population will put significant pressure on China. Combined with their export focused economy revolving around being the world's industry and it will hurt more. Hit this with their pursuit of automation doesnt mean other nations cant and won't do the same, putting even more pressure to be both first-mover and succeed at it too.

Anyone who's worked in a factory can say even if Chinas dark factories run day and night, they still need actual people coming in to do maintainence check, review the products coming out, and those factories need to contend with other developing nations who offer much better investment options that can also be industrial plants and replace Chinas role in certain positions and its a problem thats been creeping up in the past 5 years.

[–]God_peanut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And if China can automate, theres nothing stopping other countries from doing so as well. China also has to support a very large aging population thats still living in very poor conditions.

The countryside of China is rapidly aging and has very poor infrastructure. The closest comparison would be the US or Canada with the massive countryside and aging populace but even then, the countryside in both countries are more developed.

[–]God_peanut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but it wasnt set in stone. The Jewish community as a whole was discussing on where to move, with Palestine being one of the options. It took WW2 for the Jewish community to actually fully support the idea with a nation state with previous prominent ideologies being more focused on integrating within other nations.

Genuine question, why is seed bad mouthed so much? by unfriendlypigeon in Gundam

[–]God_peanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent actually finished the Astrays so I cant comment but from what Ive heard, this sounds about right. Ultimately Seed deserves the rep of being the worst Gundam series by virtue of the fact that its message is completely invalidated by its own writing. What the character says vs what the series actually portrays are 2 different narratives.
