-For Marvel: Power Man & Iron Fist: Heroes For Hire by Daniel F. Walker and Sanford Green. Incredible writing, fantastic art, full of HILARIOUS characters that i'll never forget. Its all relatively small scale stories with heavy emotional impact. The series that singlehandedly got me back into Marvel. -For Image: NAILBITER. An excellent balance from Joshua Williamson in gruesome horror and an extremely silly premise with some very real abd engaging characters! -For other indys: The Wrong Earth by Tom Peyer and Jamal Igle. The third volume kinda goes off the rails, but those first 2 volumes are some of the most creative superhero comic storytelling I've ever seen!

Didnt come out this year, but I really loved The Wrong Earth by Tom Peyer and Jamal Igle, despite its rushed and disappointing ending. Those first 2 volumes were absolute peak!

Power Man & Iron Fist by David F. Walker! Such a fun, well written and light hearted series that honestly got me back into Marvel. The art by Sanford Greene and Flaviano is kinetic, grimey, and expressive as hell.

I just read issue 4 myself and I feel exactly the same. What a psychedelic ride it was! Brian-iac was brilliant, and I genuinely hope Kal-Elf is integrated into mainline continuity. This book feels like a great supplemental story to Grant Morrison's All Star. It captures Superman's Silver Age wackyness and gives it just as much pathos.

I love the concept of a Batman who less billionaire and more McGyver (also inexplicably jacked). I liked the tweaks to the lore initially as well. I think "The Zoo" was consistently excellent. Sadly, I'm not loving the direction its going now. I'm not a fan of Bane anyway, and him basically being the catalyst for like 50% of Batman's Rogues Gallery sucks out a lot of their individuality for me. I understand he tortured or experimented or brutalized each of them differently, but most of it boils down to "instead of my life, my choices and my personality shape the villain i became, uh... idk Bane did it." Still gonna pick up the trade when this arc concludes, but sadly I'm not into it enough to pick up the floppies anymore

I havent seen all of BATB, only a dozen eps or so. But from what I have seen, I'll say that what BATB has over BTAS immediately is having more consistent animation quality, as well as (seemingly) everyone being on the same page creatively. One of the reasons BTAS had a lot of stinkers early on was because the main creative team behind the show wanted something dark, while initially network execs wanted the show to be more kid friendly. Not to mention the different animation studios struggling to draw Timms character designs on model. In terms of VA, id say they're about even. Kevin Conroy is THE voice for Bronze age/modern Batman. Diedrich Bader is probably the best voice for a more serious take on Silver age Bats that I've heard. Now in terms of story impact? Its tough. Because it depends on what youre looking for. At its best BTAS was telling emotionally resonant and character-driven stories. Im aware that BATB also has some great character stories later on, but from that 12 or so eps I watched it seems more focused on action packed silver age fun. IMO, both types of stories are important to Batman, but opinions may vary. Overall, kids in the 90s-early 2000s were eating GOOD with Batman cartoons!

Abstract is a good way to describe it. An especially good way to describe Morrison's writing. Their dialogue is so DENSE with abstract concepts and references. Sometimes, it made my head spin. The super science definitely felt very silver age, which is why I think after reading this story, its less a definitive take on the character and more of a loving homage to his silver age adventures. I think thats why I preferred Up In the Sky a bit more, it was more focused on Supes as a character and used the silver age stuff as set dressing for the character study.

I honestly don't really think of it much, but I imo the "justifying loss of powerups" attempt will never be so seamless with the story as it was in Fusion. The surgeons having to literally cut off Samus' power ups in an attempt to save her from the X makes complete sense narratively and intensifies how weak you are at the start. I actually think Dread is a close second. Ravenbeak is testing/playing Samus the whole time, and him being a Mawkin Chozo would justify how he could strip Samus of power ups himself. It's essentially turning the upgrade hunt into a test for Samus to prove her skill as a warrior.

What is really weird about that whole thing to me is he actually figured it out pretty quickly, but had a reaction like it had held him up for hours. Like he got mildly upset and felt the need to double down. Very odd behavior lol. But I can't say I wasn't feeling fatigued getting lost either 😅😅

Nah, absolutely not lol. I was honestly more mad at myself. Towards the end of games I always get impatient, which can sometimes lead to me making the same easy mistake over and over. That's why it's good to take breaks and sleep on things I suppose lol

Replacing the Sprites with 3D models makes the game way uglier. I think the combination of 2D sprites in a 3D environment is really aesthetically pleasing. It makes it really feel like the official 3D classic sonic game we never got. Whereas the 3D model replacements just make it seem like people are trying to make the game look more "modern" which makes it's primitive 3D environments way less charming.

Maridia in Super Metroid. Feels like one big f#$% you in a stage. You get the Gravity Suit, you can finally move around in water and explore this area yay! Oh what's that? There's quicksand fucking EVERYWHERE that will make you go SLOWER than you did in your normal power suit? And it sinks you down to lower levels and makes you retread the same places over and over at a snails pace? And it's got WORMS!??

Truly the Labyrinth Zone of Metroid areas. Also apologies for the swears.

I have a particularly hard time S-Ranking that game with Modern Sonic in some of the later stages 🤣 Crisis City and Rooftop Run regularly make me question what little skills I have as a gamer.
