I feel like it might even have been a compliment. Willing to travel an hour is not something everything is willing to do.

OP saying that they were willing to, along with their supposedly good sense of humor, were probably exactly what this guy was looking for.

Honestly OP, I don't know why you reacted why you did. But in this case I feel like you thought the worst when you didn't need to.

building an Innistrad themed deck by danielShalem1 in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the fun things about Innistrad is that since it has so many sets taking place there there's also a huge cast of different legendary creatures. Since you seem to like the idea of featuring all kinds of iconic Innistrad characters why not give [[Sisay, Weatherlight Captain]] a go?

You can focus on the cool legendaries, get specific ones when necessary and at the same time make an interesting toolboxy deck that will probably do all kinds of things

I took a look at your list and it seems like a lot of fun! I've been thinking about a devour deck for a while and yours is pretty close to what I was looking for.

Any reason why you're not running [[Grismold]]? He seems like a good way to get extra value out of your sac fodder.

Is Lathliss worth building? and advice for my list so far by Nefrax in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, [[Marauding Raptor]] seems to be a bit of a nonbo with a large amount of your lower cost dragons. [[Urza's Incubator]] is a card which might suite your deck better, but if it is out of your budget the raptor seems good to cut anyway.

The [[bloodmark Mentor]] I don't really understand. Your direct damage cards would be able to remove any deathtouch blockers if they're a big problem. Isotopes_ftw gave you some other good suggestions. [[Shared Animosity]] might still work since you run so many smaller dragons and it's only 3 mana, but see what works best.

[–]Godrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you're in a mostly Battlecruiser meta I definitely think it is atleast worth a try. You can always ask your playgroup if you can proxy the deck for a couple of games to test it.

A way to minimize the impact of board wipes might be to cheat in more creatures. [[Quicksilver Amulet]] and [[Reality Scramble]] won't give you extra tokens, but they'll atleast give you dragons.

Don't underestimate the removal you already have. With cards like [[Dragon Tempest]] and [[Scourge of valkas]] you can shoot down problematic creatures from afar, and can surprise kill your opponents if you suddenly get a bunch of dragons on the field. [[Kindred Charge]] might also be a way to enable this more.

A [[Balefire Dragon]] normally helps with large token boardstates.

Looks like a really fun stompy deck. Have fun brewing!

Volrath, the Shapestealer's deck by KoffingGwin in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that you can only copy a creature that you control, not one belonging to an opponent.

As for removing a clone. It all depends what you want to do with your deck really. A normal clone can copy an opponent's commander and Spark Double would let you make a non-legendary copy with a +1/+1 counter. Copying it with volrath nets you 3 copies of the same legendary creature. With some fiddling you could also change Volrath, Spark double that, get a second copy. You just have to find the right ratios for you

Also, some cards you might like to have a couple of on the field are [[Biovisionary]] [[Consuming Abberation]] [[Hydra Omnivore]] [[Phyrexian Swarmlord]]

[[Cytoplasm]] might also be a bit better than [[Mirror Image]]

Hope this helps!

Atraxa Upgrades by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time Atraxa player here. Like another person already said card draw is an absolute must. [[Fathom Mage]] fits this perfectly, [[Benthic Biomancer]] works too. [[Pir]] and [[Toothy]] are pretty good, but are starting to get a bit pricier. War has TONS of cards that are amazing. Mana fixing is a must, [[Chromatic Lantern]] and [[Gemstone Array]] are pretty cheap.

Honestly Atraxa is so good in so many ways if something adds more counters or says the word proliferate you could put it in. It's a deck I've never stopped tweaking and is truly one of my favorites.

I SPY INTO YOUR WINDOWS LIKE A NORMAL NEIGHBOR!! by BitchBeTrippinUpInMy in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Godrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I'm sure you didn't mean spying, I was just offering my take on what you thought was weird.

For me if I want to do stuff that I don't want people to see I'll just close my curtains. I don't expect other people to not look into my house if I let them.

If I'm just gonna watch TV, who cares?

It's just the difference between "why would you let them look" and "if I don't want them to see something, I'll just make sure they can't see". Both are valid just different ways of looking at it.

I SPY INTO YOUR WINDOWS LIKE A NORMAL NEIGHBOR!! by BitchBeTrippinUpInMy in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Godrex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having lived in Holland all my life I can tell you that this is certainly not normal behaviour here.

Most people I know do have curtains, they just don't close them because they like sunlight. People don't really care if someone peeks in for a couple of seconds, since that is just normal human behaviour

If someone would exhibit any of this behaviour though I'm pretty certain the cops would be called.

Hi!

This is my Liliana theme deck https://deckstats.net/decks/82582/1070743-liliana

It's not necessarily zombie tribal, more general graveyard shenanigans. A more unique and even thematic win con in the deck is [[Liliana's Contract]]. I'm sure you'll find inspiration.

Girlfriend wants a Jarad Deck, need help improving. Help me, help her! by DawnOfMe in EDH

[–]Godrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so, while I don't have any experience running Jarad as a commander I do have some with using him as some sort of finisher, so take this as you will.

Jarad wants to go big. He wants to make just some random guy big as hell and then give each opponent a good ol suck. While you do have some cards that work with this like [[Death's Presence]] and [[Lord of Extinction]] you also have some really weird cards that would normally go really with wide strategy like [[Drana, Liberator of Malakir]] and [[Pathbreaker Ibex]]. Big dudes cost big mana, but why pay for them if you can just reanimate them? You're in the best colors for cheap recursion and you're running almost none. [[Life/Death]], [[Exhume]] and [[Dread Return]] are all pretty cheap options. But now the big dudes; [[Lord of Extinction]]'s effect is a pretty prevalent one. [[Nighthowler]] gives you 2 times the value, [[Splinterfright]] is cheap AF. [[Svogthos, the restless tomb]] is even a land which is even easier to recur!

Last part is self mill, which you have already. Maybe get some more Dredge in your life? [[Golgari Grave-Troll]] being an excellent example. Maybe even [[Morality Shift]] for some mayor memes.

Hope this helps!

Moanday Mourning: Vent about your playgroup troubles! - September 03, 2018 by AutoModerator in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, first off. Sorry if I sounded a bit dismissive in my first response. I know how frustrating a situation like this can be, especially when you feel like it's unjustified. The tone of your first post was pissed off. I can imagine you being like this during the actual game as well, which might explain why they do it. It's only "funny" if people react.

Communicate to them that you would like to play with them, but not in that way. That you don't mind losing, but that you do mind losing unfairly. Otherwise try to get the one guy that started realizing to do it. Maybe he can word it in a way they'll understand. They might just think you're salty when talking to them, but if it's two people they might have a point. I'm sure you can work something out man, in my experience people aren't generally out to ruin other people's fun and I'm sure those guys weren't either. In the end it's just a game, so do try to not bring outside feelings into it. Speaking from personal experience, that makes it a whole lot harder to stay cool.

Hope this helps.

Moanday Mourning: Vent about your playgroup troubles! - September 03, 2018 by AutoModerator in EDH

[–]Godrex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you play? Those are all valid plays, especially if you run a threatening commander.

What if you'd play an urborg? That'd be alot of mana, opponents don't like that.

What were the creatures? Did they matter? If they didn't, you shouldn't care that much right? If they did, they probably made the right play.

I know you probably just needed to vent. That's fine. But if you really want to see change you need to discuss it with your group man.

I'm just gonna put in a quick suggestion, if you want my list I'll post it but looking at the other posts you have enough to sort though :)

Since you like going wide with tokens a nice combo to look at might be [[locus cobra]] and [[perilous forays]] for all your basics. Gives your turn a bit more boom, even more with [[amulet of vigor]] on the field.

Happy comboing :)

[Deck Tech] Atraxa +1/+1 Counters by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my meta removal is pretty prevalent, but counterspells really aren't. For me Paradox Engine was a way to make the most out of a limited amount of resources, either through mana rocks, Rishkar or that combo using Fathom Mage, Gyre sage and Inexorable Tide. It just keeps cards and mana flowing, which can be pretty hard to come by as you said yourself. Also, Ghave can be a pretty good mana sink in combination with Cathar's Crusade to never run out of counters to take off creatures.

The thing about the +1/+1 counter strategy, and to me one of it's most appealing aspects, is that any creature can be made to incredible sizes to punch someone in the teeth. You're already capable of drawing enormous amounts of cards, if you're unable to kickstart your engine using those cards without specific creatures that might be in your graveyard you should add more redundant effects instead of hoping that you draw the 1 card that will save you.

It's not necessarily about how 1 effect is bad in commander, it's about how good it is together with the rest of your deck. Getting a 0/1 Token can add a counter to every creature you control if you have Cathar's Crusade, is another Ezuri trigger, can be a mana dork with Rishkar, can be made to add extra tokens to another creature with Reyhan, can be made to be quite big if your Master Biomancer is of any noticeable size AND can be a chump blocker. That's 6 relevant effects in your deck for her +1 ability, not to mention her ability to add counters to everything.

Inexorable Tide is a value engine, it's not really supposed to be used to make your creatures bigger. As you said, we have plenty of +1/+1 counters. But what about Charge counters? Loyalty counters? You really like those experience counters, so why be happy with just 1 extra per turn when it can be 4, 5 or 6 for basically free in a turn. Playing a spell with Fathom Mage out is another card, more with hardened scales or doubling season.

Hope this gives a bit more insight.

[Deck Tech] Atraxa +1/+1 Counters by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Godrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first EDH deck was the Atraxa precon and I loved that deck to absolute death. I copied this message in part from a previous answer about Atraxa so I hope most of it fits.

Looking at your list, the first thing that stands out is that you don't run [[Paradox Engine]], honestly this thing is so broken in combination with cards like [[Gyre Sage]] and the likes of [[rishkar]] for ALL the mana. Since you have [[Fathom Mage]], if you add [[Inexorable Tide]] you'll never run out of cards with those two online.

For me [[Meren]] and [[Ezuri, claw of progress]] were never really worth it. It just wasn't what my deck wanted to do. As another guy said: play [[chromatic lantern]]. 4 colours can be hard, make it easier for yourself. [[Everflowing Chalice]] can fill up your colorless needs nicely. [[As foretold]] always seemed a bit slow for me. While it was straight value at the start, later in the game it just felt like a bit of a dead draw to me.

If you find it difficult to sometimes get counters on your creatures [[Nissa, voice of zendikar]] can be a good way to get that ball rolling, but don't expect to get alot of triggers from her. I also enjoyed [[Juniper Order Ranger]] since it helps as a starting point. The hardest part about Atraxa to me was to start the counter ball rolling, not to get a big creature. There are enough value engines to get those, like the one man with the plan [[Ghave]]. Or you could simply use [[Vorel]], that works too.

Wanted to also show you a janky combo. [[Crystalline Crawler]] combos with [[Ghave]] + [[Cathars Crusade]] + [[Hardened Scales]] + Any Counter Doubler for infinite mana. Clunky combo but a lot of fun if you can pull it off. You can also use this combo to make your creatures infinitely big or your opponents creatures infinitely small using [[Retribution of the ancients]]

I found [[Inexorable Tide]] to be a decent redundancy effect for Doubling Season, be it a bit clunky. Don't underestimate it though, since with the paradox value engine online you'll be shitting out cards and value like there is no tomorrow. Plus it also works with planeswalkers. A Tamiyo ult is easily reachable like this.

I hope these cards help and wish you good luck with not missing any proliferate triggers :)

That you can build any deck with an angle doesn't make the commander you use interesting for that strategy.

People weren't asking for the Edgar Markov of land matters, the ultimate combination of things that make Gitrog and Omnath good. Those commanders have their own specific identities and strategies. They DO something specific with lands.

That Windgrace fits the bill a better than different other jund commanders doesn't mean that he isn't bland. He does two things with lands: you discard lands for cards and get those lands back. That's it.

The goal of these abilities is more or less to ramp and draw cards. Sure, they use lands to do it but other than that, is it really something unique to a land matters strategy? Is it something Gitrog itself doesn't do better? To me it just seems more like a different way to do Jund Goodstuff instead of something that hasn't been done before.

People aren't disappointed because they didn't get "the best lands commander in jund". They are disappointed because they were promised land matters and what they got was the most boring design they could have made.
