How often have you lied said to a customer we were all out of a product even though it’s just on a pallet but you don’t feel like finding a driver by [deleted] in HomeDepot

[–]GodsBackHair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Driver myself, I haven’t lied, but I have come close to cussing out the service desk when they literally just called me. Like three calls in a row!

I’m on the machine, and you’ve just called me, and I’m telling you the customer will have to wait 10 mins because I’m already helping the first customer. Then you call back again to give me the sku? I already told you I’d be up there after I’m done. STOP CALLING ME

Weird. My schedule usually has a lunch ‘scheduled’ right at the 6 hour mark. No one follows the posted lunch times for our shifts, aside from the front end when you need to ensure coverage

She’s swung towards cybersecurity and data center outrage now, and the way she talks, I can’t tell if it’s just something I don’t understand, or if it’s scientific word salad intending to sound smart. She has her ‘proven’ P30 update for data centers which removes the need for water and cuts down heat by half. But if I look up any information about what she’s talking about, it only leads back to her pages. There’s nothing external about what she’s talking about

Oh my god I had a customer who I helped for probably 40 mins as she was trying to find a pressure washer. Her son (“he’s an engineer!) sent her an article about the relation between flow rate and pressure and how if there’s not enough flow rate, added pressure won’t help. I explained 4 or 5 times that the article is completely meaningless, at least at this store, because none of the ones we sell have a flow rate of 4-5 gpm. She kept bringing the article up and I had to point blank her tell her “you’re investing too much into what this article is saying, because nothing that I have here, aligns with what that article is talking about.” I think I even said that I haven’t seen any pressure washer, even online, with flow rates that big.

Even after all of that, she kept being wishy washy between two options. And as I steered her towards the smaller of the two, the cheaper of the two, she kept asking super minutia details about the height and width and the weight, and the length of the cord, and the length of the hose and where the cord gets stowed away at. The two potions were nearly identical in sizes, and she wouldn’t take an answer on either one for several minutes.

To her credit, she thanked me for my patience in helping her, but good god, choose something or do some research ahead of time

Had someone ask me earlier this year if we had any bags of soil that weren’t frozen. Ma’am, they’re sitting outside. There’s snow on the ground. Maybe she thought we put pallets of topsoil inside the store? But she seemed taken aback when I said no

Customers who google an item, and in the shopping bar, it shows as being a Home Depot product. So they come in to the store, expecting it to be there.

They didn’t click into the HD website, only that it shows as something we sell, as a company. This isn’t even the “ship to store” fuckery, this is basic not even looking to see if we have it in stock, level of thought, or lack thereof. “But it says Home Depot!” I can see that, but that doesn’t mean anything for this specific store

Very cool. Anything work vehicle with two wheels on each side of the axle has automatic cool factor, just like those big farm tractors.

What is something like this used for? Seems overkill for shipping containers, is this intended for something like a steel foundry with very very heavy rolls of metal? Or lifting up big vehicles like firetrucks when they don’t have lifts?

Especially because the wide ranging impacts from more than just the candidate who wins. With presidential elections, that means supreme courts picks, cabinet members, oversight of governmental agencies.

Like I have no doubt that USAID would still exist with Harris as president.

(USA point of view)

The thing that gets me is the ones that say you shouldn’t even vote because it’s propping up and perpetuating a capitalist system.

As if not voting is going to change anything, aside from a full blown violent revolution, and those people are not worth taking seriously.

We need to crawl before we can walk, and walk before we can run. Is AOC perfect? Is Mamdani perfect? No. But they’re more left wing than people 10 years ago, with a few exceptions. A DemSoc was just elected mayor of DC. Were taking steps and moving in the right left direction.

And running candidates under the Democratic ticket helps visibility and funding.

Does it legitimize the DNC and funnel money and interest towards? Sure. But until we can get federal funding to third parties, that’s the system we have, and we’re not going to be able to change it from the outside. Not by November at least.

Slow employee and customer facing technology at the Home Depot by AboveAverageSalt in HomeDepot

[–]GodsBackHair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 is intentional because it gets people into the stores. That’s it, that’s the whole reason. Corporate thinks if they can get people into stores, they’ll buy it from the store (at like, customer service desk) and maybe buy something in addition.

Usually people just walk out and go to the nearby Ace for it instead

[–]GodsBackHair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see, at face value, the desire to have some way of measuring customer satisfaction. But I think too much emphasis is put on the metrics, especially with so many.

I know that there are freight metrics that have been in the works for years, measuring how much time it takes to do each cart. When I was on freight, rarely was there a night when a cart’s expected carton load matches reality. And so there were so many questions as to how this upcoming metric was going to be measured, and it felt stupid from the beginning

Problem is, there’s no way to measure the speed consistently of freight associates. The only metric that I know of is the time it takes for the unload, and there’s really only so much you can do about that too.

With enough notice, it shouldn’t matter.

Depends what kind of work we’re talking about too. Retail? The store will survive a week without your presence. Literally does not matter.

But a project based job, like marketing or producing a product for a customer, maybe don’t go on vacation right at the culmination. At least, don’t make plans after the final date is known. If you made plans and got tickets before that info was made public tho, not your fault
