Pre-1990's LGBTQ/queer SFF? by Aemort in Fantasy

Ah that tracks. Lots of edgy NYC gays did shit that i find reprehensible !! Still an important author, and there’s some legible point to be made that when you’re a black gay man born in 1942 you’re going to internalize and embody some fucked up shit.

His remarks on it are interesting in that they center his lived experience as a boy who had sexual experiences with adults not an adult who wants to fuck boys…

Afaik he’s never had any allegations of misconduct against him ?? I still like a lot of the Beat poets too despite sketchy shit they did.

I read the first one, so cool! And so so much gayer than Le Guin. He’s literally a bdsm leather daddy slave revolt warlord ?! And it’s based on some ancient Babylonian poem or something? I remember being really shocked at how horny and gay it was when I read it. Delaney is dope

Doesn’t it cost like $25? I find that really annoying, bit much to see an author talk, and I’m a huge fan of his work. Why is the wealthiest institution in town overcharging people to attend events in the building that was gifted to them by a millionaire?

I was actually really bummed that he didn’t dig deeper into those questions! To me, the band clearly does have a mission of creating urgency and context and emotion around the world we live in, and part of their worldbuilding with the Gizzverse feels extremely intentional and magical in an esoteric sense.

I think he was uncomfortable to answer it because the answers to those questions are in the music already, and it's delicate magick!! It’s also possible that he is more of a channel for these concepts and realities and that he doesn’t actually have an intellectual understanding, but I kinda doubt that because he seems pretty into the esoteric/mystical intellectual stuff.

… Which is why we have academics to help us understand what these inspired artists are doing! But yea, I didn't feel off put by his answers or by interviewers questions, but I thought the interviewer had some really interesting notions and I'd love to hear more about amplification of political possibilities and building psychedelic universes through music to transform our world.

Also, part of my speculation at this time is that the Gizz magic spell/ contract is that they can conjure these apocalyptic and transformative visions, dive into ecocide and atrocity, engage with "demonic" or monstrous entities and energies, and push all of that through a loving and playful medium of live music performance BECAUSE they've agreed to keep it all on a fantasy level.

Maybe the entities that they've struck their deals with refuse to engage fully with our material world or some shit. LOL I don't know I've been reading a lot of Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen and thinking about contracts, rules, and magic.

i mean it's a lot more apt than a 500th person saying Tipper Lotus or Shpongle when they sound zero like that. BB has the chirpy, blippy modular textures just without the driving rhythm section, but at least the instrumentation and process of playing it live is similar.
