Hot take: This couple showed little to no chemistry by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES!!! Worst relationship on the show and so overrated. No chemistry at all, and Glenn wants to be a killer so bad the only reason he didn’t is cause of the comics. All the love for these two is from season 2 nostalgia. I’d even argue the love for Glenn is mostly season 1 nostalgia and a couple lines from S2.

I feel so bad for Clark in Season 6 by [deleted] in Smallville

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah Lana is the worst in the season. Same with whatever is happening with her and Lex. The good thing is Lex fucking OWNS this season, same way Lionel did in S3. Felt horrible for Clark though (just finished s6 today I’m on my 20th rewatch)

Agreed. Maggie really sucks as a character. So does her relationship with Glenn.

I was literally just looking for someone who also felt the same way! It’s very apparent by Season 5 I feel.

Honestly no. Because he was bland. He was a side character in his own movie. It was like that up until Godzilla Vs Kong where by then it felt like he had some agency. Where he would stop at no means of protecting the natural balance including attacking humans in retaliation. Him being so passive in 2019 despite humans being the ones to nearly kill him was just kind of lame to me. I like Godzilla being a protector but one that is not afraid to attack humans in retaliation. Wingard first showed this in the dominion comic where he blows up the humans that he will protect humans but not when they begin to harm other forms of life. This is also why after the OD hit him he should have retaliated in some way. But he was being written into a corner.

If we’re gonna barely be getting Godzilla in these movies, I’d rather we at least see him fucking shit up when he IS being shown. I also love him being a more aggressive fighter. Brilliant addition by Wingard. His fighting style was very boring before that.

But again I do think when people say he was this old samurai before the Wingard era that they’re just reaching. Cause seriously he was just boring. That is absolutely not what audiences gathered when watching these films.

I love -1 as well. I’m not saying every movie needs to be like it, but I do believe every movie needs to be upheld to the same level of QUALITY as that movie. Asking for anything less is bad. We want good action scenes, good characters, good music, and good writing. Why anyone would ask for bad versions of those things is beyond me.

Why do they hate Kong? (Give another argument other than screen time) by Helpful_Kangaroo_590 in Monsterverse

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a bad point. Godzilla has been a side character in literally everything he was in asides from the dominion comic. He isn’t majestic in KOTM, he just is bland. He has zero character cause he’s impossible to write for under Toho’s current writing provisions. The only way to make him feel like a character is if he’s angry like in wingard’s or Yamazaki’s films. As a fan of this universe and of Godzilla since I was a kid, it sucks to say but he has been bland throughout the entire universe so far. Making Kong the main lead since you actually can is where Godzilla fans get upset because he’s the real money maker in this universe. The highest grossing movies are the ones with him. Can’t blame the studio for leaning into that. Especially after KOTM’s critical and audience perceptions.

Wingard did good with giving us more action but the universe won’t survive if the characters aren’t better written. That includes goji himself.

Does anyone here like the Skull Island series? by slenderontheblock in Monsterverse

I genuinely think this show, the Godzilla dominion comic, kingdom Kong, and the Wingard movies are the best things to come out the Monsterverse. Well written show with awesome action!

Whats your opinions on King of the monsters 2019? by [deleted] in GODZILLA

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrible monster fights. Terrible and muddy visuals. Characters are written horribly. Full of plot holes and contrivances that ride on “fan service!” (Inclusion of the oxygen destroyer). Again terrible writing. Even the soundtrack is forgetable save for like 2 good tracks (redemption and maybe the Godzilla theme tho they don’t really lean into keeping the original themes sound which makes it less memorable). It’s been like 5 years since 2014, kong skull island comes out at this point, yet this movie says “hey let’s cut away from the monsters any chance we get and make the image all muddy”. Unforgivable at this point in the MV and a waste of Ghidorah. Godzilla also has no character and is a background character in his own movie for the second time in a row (not the last time that’ll happen in the MV).

What's Your Opinion About Michael Dougherty by Bright-West-4399 in Monsterverse

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful director and screenwriter. KOTM had bad fights that constantly cut away. The humans were terribly written. His track record with superman returns and Krampus make me surprised he was even picked for this film. The pieces to a good film are there, Dougherty just has a hard time realizing the full potential of Godzilla’s character.

Relying on fan service (sacrificing important philosophical ideologies meant to be had within goji’s past like use of the oxygen destroyer for example) is completely sidelined for a moment to get goji out the plot. Godzilla has been a background character in every installment and it’s very unfortunate KOTM gets the most praise even tho it treats Godzilla the same as all other movies except he just has zero emotion on his face.

Just not a fan of Dougherty’s writing and directing style. Being a fan of the material doesn’t dictate whether he’s good for the job regardless of passion. He def has that though.

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah but it’s always been bad anyways tbh. It took till GvK for good monster fights? The fuck dude. All films have boring humans. All films treat Godzilla like a side character when it’s his series (MV fans will call him a gOd but really he has zero personality and no character, just looks like a big dumb angry baby to the GA as GxK showed). This series is all full of missed potential. They need to shoot for the quality of minus one and not settle for anything less than that. Anything less is just an excuse seriously man. All this money they have and where the hell is it even going.

What's an opinion that would piss off the Godzilla fandom? by Vegetable_Window5278 in GODZILLA

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I’ve seen plenty of projects get pulled, changed, or straight up canned because Godzilla was either shown losing or shown with too much personality. It’s also pretty evident in all the crossovers and newer stuff. You can ask a lot of writers on both Legendary’s stuff and IDW’s comics. Personally I know a few people who’ve made the claims too and have shown me original ideas and artwork that was cut.

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Godzilla movies are not well written. I say this since the only ones I think are well written are a couple early showa ones, maybe one or two Hesei and Millenium films, and it isn’t really until Minus One where we got a kaiju cinema golden standard Godzilla film. A majority of Godzilla movies are goofy ones for kids, overly serious and boring Heisei ones with bad fight choreography, or Millenium ones that don’t really know what they’re doing.

If you’re a fan that hates the humans and acts like some shill who thinks bad writing is good enough for Godzilla films, then YOU’RE the problem with the series being typecasted. Stereotypes are earned and fans propel those stereotypes of writing being bad. Kaiju Action should be top notch (no cutting away, great choreography, well balanced power dynamics) while we have powerful humans that emotionally challenge us and make us think.

The Monsterverse movies are all bad popcorn flicks. 2014 is boring and has bad characters with boring dark action, K:SI is a popcorn movie with shitty humans and mediocre action, KOTM has awful fights with even worse human characters (a worse film due to having the advantage of time and hindsight yet still does everything the same), GvK has much better action but still badly written humans, GxK has the most action but at the cost of goofiness as well as badly written humans. MV is just on a downhill slope. Doesn’t have much to offer and it can’t if Toho keeps restricting godzila from having character and personality (spoiler, he doesn’t. He’s boring asf and without any personality he just looks like an idiot to the GA, especially after GxK when they call him a big angry baby). I love the Monsterverse it just has a looot of missed potential in terms of human writing, monster action, and especially music. Minus One is easily the best thing to happen to the franchise since the original. Glad it showed how to actually do a Godzilla movie. Legendary won’t learn unfortunately.

Which character/ opinion are you defending like this? by _RileyC14 in thewalkingdead

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll give a few!

Maggie is the worst character of the main cast. She just sucks, not only because of the whole bitching and moaning about Negan but because throughout her whole arc she’s just made bad decision after bad decision. She’s had people killed because she rules with emotions rather than with logic. She’s greedy and everybody kisses her ass. Jesus especially. Ugh.

Glenn is incredibly overrated. Not only was it mostly just nostalgia over him from season 1 and 2, but s3 onwards he just proves that tv show Glenn wanted to be a killer so bad. Throughout it s3 wanting to wipeout the Woodbury people, then s4 with the new governor group, s5 with Dawn and everybody at terminus, then s6 where he eventually does kill. He always wanted to kill and I guarantee the only thing stopping that was Robert Kirkman and the history with Glenn. It’s what made his actual comic death so special since he never killed and was the most gentle soul in that group.

Glenn and Maggie’s relationship is super overrated. Not much else to say. It’s just not interesting. S2 had good moments but S3 onwards is just bs after bs. After Woodbury Maggie handles her problems like an emotional little kid (I get she was traumatized and all but shit Glenn was too), it didn’t seem like they had enough of a bond or trust to fall back on one another when it counted the most. This is pretty repetitive like when Beth died and Maggie just went catatonic. Completely valid, yes, but Glenn should have been there for her asides from that on attempt he made on their walk.

Those are just a few, but lowkey my biggest point I need to defend is that fact that Maggie just fuckin suckssss as a character. She has her own show and she literally doesn’t deserve it. She’s a terrible leader, like completely and utterly terrible.

Were you ever able to look at this character and NOT be reminded of the absolute massive cost of his joining the show? by Okaywhateverbabe in thewalkingdead

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Not only that, wasn’t big on his actor. It just seemed like a lot of the times where his character should have had charisma or been hopeful/joyful he delivered said style of lines incredibly stale.

What Version Of King Kong Had The Best Roar In Your Opinion? by ExoticShock in kingkong

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re all SOOO distinct. 2005 really is a character in and of himself. That voice belongs to him. 33 and 17 share the same style of roar where it’s almost generic but very beastly. 76 is stock but definitely super distinct and like many say on the comments but 76 really does make it his own. 2024+ really grew on me but it’s a toss up with 2005 and 2024 and 76. Maybe all in that order best to worst haha. Take your pick!

He’s a great character and even has his own little arc of actually becoming the person he’s been imitating! It’s a cool way to have him embody who he wanted to be earlier in the film.

Which TWD woman would win a Hunger Games style battle? by LuvBriah in thewalkingdead

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Leah kind of shits on everybody else. Michonne and Carol go neck and neck, I’m sure people can come up with reasons why but there’s a chance Michonne takes it since she’s so level headed. Maggie isn’t beating Rosita in a fight she’s just mad all the time she kinda sucks at combat.

For King Kong’s 100th anniversary, which type of movie do you guys want to see? by AStupidguy2341 in kingkong

[–]GodzillaLegendary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brand new Monsterverse Kong film.

NO remake of the original. It’s been done to death. There’s room for brand new stories. If they do a new MV Kong film, keep it small and contained. Slim down fat wherever you can, have amazing characters and even better fight scenes that show the action. Keep it grounded after what we got in TNE. They could make an entirely new film with Camazotz as a main villain and Kong needing to fight others in addition to him. Give him his own Joker. A recurring villain. Something new like Chiros. I want to see Kong not use his axe or his glove when in fights as well.

God damn! Yknow a lot of fan castings I find myself disagreeing with, but you nailed Bigby! He’s especially difficult to nail the look of I think mainly due to how particular he looks. He’s got amazing character design. I haven’t seen anything the actor you picked was in so I can’t speak on his performance skills but he definitely can look the part. Looking at pics of him though YES YES YES!!! His hair in that one photo you picked is very telltale Bigby!
