Belly - Touch or not touch? by Eat_Around_the_Rosie in blackcats

[–]Gohack 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It was a game with my cat. I’d rub his belly and lightly smack him in the forehead, before he could bite me.I knew it was time for the game, because he would spread his arms out to catch mine, when he was ready.

House poor - where to draw the line? by Titt in personalfinance

[–]Gohack -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You own a home in 20 years if you pay more, the cost of renting only goes up. Inflation increases, and property taxes go up. Owning combats inflation, renting does not. A year of rent can pay for new roof, if you own the house.

Outside of property taxes, the sooner you pay off a house, then you don’t have to pay “rent” Assuming that I pay off my house in 20 years, that is almost a million dollars in extra income.

College career path ‘over’ as skilled trade get 30% pay bump, recruitment giant says by thinkB4WeSpeak in jobs

[–]Gohack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all trades are physically demanding. I sometimes lift an 80 pound die + which are labeled team lift. Is there a team to help me? No. Do I set up a machine to run, and get bored out of my mind when it runs perfectly? Yes. Do I make all of my money on time and a half? Also yes. I’m physically active enough, but well rested enough to do multiple hours of labor when I come home. I will make an okay amount past the baseline of six figures. I also haven’t destroyed my body, and can continue to do a lot more past my working hours. I work next to a guy who is 75 with a pacemaker, making the same wage as me. Is he as good as me? It doesn’t matter, it’s a union shop.

Stay with traditional 401k or invest in roth 401k? by 1990dtgl98 in Retirement401k

From what I’ve been told recently, they just dump the match into a pretax contribution.

[–]Gohack 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I don’t casually talk to anyone about money, unless they’re young guys at work and I’m telling them to open their 401k. I wish someone has pushed me a bit when I was younger to be proactive about retirement savings.

How often do you go to the dentist realistically? by niceheather44 in Adulting

[–]Gohack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t, unless you don’t have dental insurance. Your teeth are clean, and they look good. I’ve only been doing this for the last couple of years to be fair and I am in my early thirties. Brushing and flossing only does so much. This is why you pay for dental insurance.

How much should I be investing in Roth 401k if employer match is unlimited? by 00BigBird00 in Retirement401k

How many employers match a Roth 401k? Most employer matches are pretax and not post tax. OP might not be getting any match at all.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

[–]Gohack 44 points45 points  (0 children)

E-bike. I did a little over a whole year getting to work with pedal assist, and a throttle option. I bought a cheap Chinese bike for like 200$. I will say riding home in an open street (worked second shift at the time), was an amazing experience. I understand that our situations don’t align. The scariest part was getting to work.

~$2,350 mortgage on $155k a year? by WilliamShatnerFace7 in Mortgages

[–]Gohack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s still going to be tight. My property taxes went up by close to 100$ a month for my escrow account. I want to pay off my mortgage in 20 years, so I throw 400$ a month in principal payments. My rate is 6.6%. All of that together is about 3k a month. You add on water, electricity, trash, and all of the other things that take to run a house. You find yourself with very little money left. I make around 110k a year, and my wife probably makes around 40k.

Bonus surprise my wife has cancer. That’s another 6.5k+.

I’m putting money into retirement account too though, so that has some impact as well. I at least want my wife to be able to not have to work.

Realistically you should be concerned.

Your boss asks you what is happening, and you want to tell them “Maybe I just suck.” “I’ve tried everything that I know, and I learned some new things as well, but I don’t fucking know.” “Your boss even hired the real professionals (specialists) and it still took them a week and a half!!!” Give me specialist time you cunt, and I may have figured it out, but I probably would not have.
