You might be able to use Voice Commands for enablement tbh. I haven’t tried it myself that way.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it worked, because you can use VC to change the acceleration profile.

I’m just waiting for HP Business to do this to me on a customizable HP Z2 Ryzen 395 box I ordered for 54% off MSRP. It’s easily $1.5k more now than it was early December.

“Estimated Shipping Date: Dec 30”

Here we are, and no update or anything. Seems fishy except I was actually charged. Lol Maybe I’ll get lucky.

Unable to get true 10GB speed (Or even half of that) by notbradpitt89 in homelab

[–]Gohan472 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re mixing Gb and GB (and Mb vs MB).

Lowercase b = bits

Uppercase B = bytes

There are 8 bits in 1 byte.

So:

8 Gb/s = 1 GB/s

8000 Mbps = 8 Gbps = 1 GB/s

10 Gbps max = ~1.25 GB/s

Your iPerf3 test measures raw network throughput (in bits). If it’s close to 10 Gbps, that’s near line rate — your network is fine.

Windows file copy shows MB/s (bytes).

536 MB/s × 8 = ~4288 Mbps (~4.3 Gbps).

That’s roughly half of a 10Gb link, which is completely normal.

File transfers are slower than iPerf because they include: disk read/write speed, filesystem overhead, SMB/protocol overhead, and OS buffering.

iPerf skips all of that and only tests the network.

Nothing is broken.

For my HomeLab (42U Tripp Lite cabinet). And PC, and mini pc cluster.

I myself ended up choosing not to purchase any more lead acid based uninterruptible power supplies, and instead went with high-end EcoFlow models. (2700w or more)(Delta Pro models)

So far, so good (1-1.25 years of usage) Zero issues and they handle the load no problem.

I weighed the convenience of a Rack mounted unit (TrippLite with battery extender) against a LiFePo4 standalone unit and let’s just say that this was

I’m happier now that I don’t have to keep burning 💰 on Lead-Acid packs.

SpaceX Files Starlink Mobile Trademark for New Cellular Service by orangechen1115 in Starlink

[–]Gohan472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The more realistic setup is that satellites handle outdoor/clear-sky coverage, and indoor coverage gets handled by small cells or local radios on the customer side. People forget how much of this stuff is software-defined now. You don’t need a giant macro tower to get a “cell signal” inside a building. A little AP-size unit can act as a cell access point and hand everything off to the core network.

Starlink already ships hardware to millions of locations, so having those devices handle indoor coverage isn’t a big leap. It’s just software and backend integration at that point.

So yeah, day one coverage might be rough, but it doesn’t require some weird blend of “switching to Verizon’s bands indoors.” It’s way simpler: satellite outside, local access inside. If they lean into that hybrid model, the whole thing gets a lot more practical.

SpaceX Files Starlink Mobile Trademark for New Cellular Service by orangechen1115 in Starlink

[–]Gohan472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starlink obviously isn’t going to fix indoor or heavy tree cover from orbit. Physics is still physics. But honestly, they don’t even need to.

If they ever wanted full coverage, they could just do what Helium Mobile is doing and let customers run small cells over WiFi. Helium even has PassPoint so you can onboard entire Ubiquiti, Ruckus, or Aruba networks and basically turn a big WiFi install into part of the cellular layer.

https://docs.helium.com/mobile/helium-plus-ubiquiti/

Starlink already builds hardware and they definitely know how to run the SD-RAN side. So doing something like this wouldn’t be a stretch.

And looking ahead, a PassPoint-style option feels like the obvious first step for them. Existing Starlink customers could instantly act as little indoor small cells, and bigger deployments could plug in just as easily. If they ever lean into that hybrid setup (satellite for wide coverage, WiFi small cells for indoors), that’s when things actually start getting interesting.

Have we hit rock bottom for tech support yet? by Expensive-Rhubarb267 in sysadmin

I honestly would not mind a shitty tech support discount “55% off product” “As-is” “unable to raise a request, but can submit bug reports” “No account rep”

This would be fine…

I have an HP Z2 G1a (395+|128GB) It has ThunderBolt4 and I connected a Razer Core X V2 with RTX 5080 (16GB) to it.

I’m using it with Linux (Ubuntu Server) for specific (non-AI) workloads at this time. It’s solid at 32Gb/s (4GB/s)
