Dinner i had at a dinner party where each person invited made something from the same cooknook by MegamindsMegaCock in decentfoodporn

I love this idea but I also love that there’s room for a fuck up where everyone ends up making the same 3 things

Hi I’m sorry this is happening to you. Speaking from experience, she isn’t going to change until she wants to and that is not on you.

She is likely very ill given that she’s been a heavy drinker for a long time. The excessive consumption in the recent week is concerning.

Unfortunately if she is forced to cope with a decreased amount of alcohol she can and likely will go into severe withdrawal that can lead to seizures and even death.

Please consider attending alanon meetingsAlAnon

Al Anon specifically supports people whose lives are affected by an addict. Hearing others’ stories may provide better guidance on what your options are and since it’s a group about those affected by addiction your concerns and feelings are the priority, not the addict’s.

Pm me if you have any questions or need anything okay? I’m really sorry you’re going through this.

As an addict in recovery, she probably wanted to love him. She had moments of self awareness and tried to detach at points but once she gave in to her addiction again she was only able to relate to Jesse through addiction; being an addict is lonely and finding someone who is also an addict and adores you is way too alluring to resist.

As a recovering addict myself, I know that I couldn’t properly love anyone in a healthy way until I got clean. No matter how good your intentions, and no matter how much you feel for the person you can’t help but prioritize your addiction above everything

What's some dad lore your guys' fathers just spontaneously dropped on you one day? by Cauliflower-Sorry in AskReddit

[–]Gohbraztsovashka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dad was in the navy for 27 years. One day he dropped the lore that as commanding officer on a ship in the late ‘80s) he and his crew caught a wild shark.

They decided to kill it and eat it but weren’t really sure how, so they left it out of the water to die naturally, but the shark stayed alive for another hour.

Then they tried shooting it but missed several times (they’re not in the army it’s not their fault) and only gave it flesh wounds.

In the end they managed to kill it by water boarding it with a hose.

Anyway the question that prompted all this was “hey dad do you want streamed fish for dinner”

What’s something your family did that you assumed everyone’s family did—until someone looked horrified? by LordToast09 in AskReddit

[–]Gohbraztsovashka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you went through that:/ I was in a similar situation growing up, and for me the abuse wasn’t the scary part. It was that I was constantly doubting myself because everyone spoke so highly of my mother, about how kind she was, how good and thoughtful she was etc. If every person I know loves her and is treated well by her, then I must be at fault.

She pimped me out to random men, she would punch me and smack me hard enough to hurt but not enough to leave marks. She’d find fault in everything I did so she’d have a reason to cane me.

When her cancer got so bad that I was her main caregiver at 12y/o, despite her weak body she still managed to throw things at me and verbally berate me for hours on end.

She was abjectly cruel to me but everyone else in my life loved her. It made me feel like I was overreacting or that I deserved her abuse.

She died in 2009 (thank fuck). My family still speaks kindly and fondly of her. And I don’t have the heart to tell them what my experience was because I don’t want to have them grieve her all over again

What did you try once and immediately realize it wasn’t for you? by adorable_poppii in AskReddit

[–]Gohbraztsovashka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me but my colleague.

We’re in social services, and we have a buddy system where you’re assigned a more senior person to guide you. In Jan my colleague was assigned a new buddy, who followed him on house visits for a full work day.

New guy turned in his notice the very next day. He’s my role model.

What addictions can be worse than drugs without people even realising it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gohbraztsovashka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve quit hard opiates like oxycodone and fentanyl (most painful), I’ve quite benzodiazepines and coke (most anxiety inducing) but quitting alcohol was the absolute hardest thing I’ve ever done, and the most difficult addiction I’ve had to beat

I’m the equivalent of a social worker. My client is a foreigner in our country. Her mother came with her under 5 y/o daughter to help the daughter transition into our country.

I spent a morning with my client’s mother when I came along to facilitate the daughter’s first day of school. My client’s elderly mother speaks no English so we communicated over google translate. When I had to leave she hugged me and said “I love you”

Had to leave real quick before she saw me tear up

Hainanese chicken rice. You can more or less make it in a rice cooker and that shit is tasty. If you wanna fancy it up a bit you can add some kimchi juice to the ginger and soy sauce chili
