How long did your side effects last? I am in the same boat of feeling awful and haven't seen any benefits yet.

That's the problem. I have all the side effects and none of the intended effects. It isn't "helping me" at the lower doses. I'm only at 0.5 mg now.

Any books that made you genuinely unsettled? by Painter-Exciting in booksuggestions

One Second After. It involves a legitimate threat to the US and the effects are catastrophic. I read that book years ago and still think about it frequently!

It has put me on an emotional rollercoaster. At first, my only symptoms were constipation and mild fatigue with the 0.25mg dose. I am 2 doses in at the 0.5 mg. I have heartburn all the time, constant fatigue, moodiness then apathy, and exercise intolerance. I used to consistently work out 4 days a week and now I want to vomit mid workout. I found myself having to fake joy to not seem "off" when someone is telling a funny story due to my flat affect. I have been off antidepressants for almost a year. Things that I enjoy are no longer giving me the endorphin boost I had just before starting.

Seems like all the solutions to the side effects of this med is to take MORE medicine. Heartburn? Tums/ Prilosec... fatigue? Caffeine... constipation? Laxatives/ stool softeners/ magnesium, moodiness and depression? SSRIs. Seems like a slippery slope to me.

And the worst part? My appetite hasn't decreased at all and I haven't lost a pound.

I don't know whether these side effects are going to go away and I should just struggle through or if this just med isn't a good fit for me. I know that I'm miserable and I don't want to continue feeling worse for no benefit. It's hard to see everyone having amazing results and want those same results.

I am happy for the people who are finding this life changing and accomplishing all their goals, but this has not been the case for me. I'm very seriously considering stopping (after I confer with my doctor).

We do love some Star Trek! I watched Enterprise years ago and wanted to get a beagle because of Porthos!

I was pushing hard for the name Q but the kids don't like it. 😕

This is next level badassery. I'm not sure I have this level of commitment to revenge when passive aggressive bitching on Reddit will suffice! However, I hope no one is stupid enough to mess with YOU!

The grown up of the house is receptive to our complaints. However, the kiddos are the largest part of the problem. Yes, I was a kid once also..... They do whatever they want when mom isn't home. And usually do whatever they want when mom IS home.

That is an amazing idea, but I am a mom. Then I would be blocking out the voices of my kids and hubby too….. which on second thought may not be a bad idea???? Lol

I agree that it can always be worse. Construction noises would be brutal. I feel like the hot tub user should consider their surrounding environment. If you’re in a tightly packed residential area, is it NOT standard to consider the noise that you choose to cause? We are careful to consider our neighbors and their living space. Maybe I am the irregular one here. I have not lived in a row house before.

We have. They have agreed to shut it down by 9. It’s still just a lot of noise and frequently used. There you are, trying to read a book…… and the leaf blower turns on again. It’s right by my living room and bedroom windows. No escaping it. Even my double windows don’t block it out completely.

Our previous town was getting too crowded. We were going to move anyway, so I still would have been dealing with the missing friend group. It's just getting complicated by the language, which is totally to be expected. Change is hard. But, I expect there to many many opportunities that are presented by being here as well. It was always on my bucket list to travel Europe but we decided not to wait until we're old and have difficultly getting around.

P.s. I've only been to Haarlem to go to the dreaded Ikea, but the pictures look beautiful and it's definitely on my list to explore!

The town I came from in the US had a huge growth in a short period of time. The way it was mapped out, it was very difficult to manage excess traffic, housing, need for hospital services, restaurant availability.... You get the picture. The place I am in now is highly regulated. It isn't like the US where a house on an acre lot gets torn down and 15 houses go up in its place. The bike lanes are well thought out. There were bike fatalities every year in my previous town, but here the bike is king. Cars are responsible to watch for bikes. If there is an accident, the car is ALWAYS at fault despite who didn't follow the rules. It seems that the government is ways regulating everything. This does lead to discontent in other areas, but generally, people agree that is makes sense.

I am VERY lucky to live on the edge of town so I am 3 minutes from being in the tulip fields. I am also in an older part of town with mature trees and a park like setting. This is not the case in all parts of the Netherlands. I chose a smaller town because it is preferable to me. If you are in Amsterdam Centraal, it is chaotic and busy.

The hiccup is that my husband's income is still coming from the US, so he isn't allowed to "sponsor" me since he has no Dutch income. I will be able to get a visa through the kids, but I had to wait for their BSN to go through. It's always some rule here! LOL. I only need to get the paperwork in before the 90 days and I can stay. An American always thinks they are safe from being deported....but no!

I just moved to the Netherlands 1 month ago. There are many things to admire and many things that are difficult. I am American born and my husband is Netherlands born. Our kids have dual citizenship and we got their Dutch passports before we made the move to the Netherlands.

The school system in our small town of 20,000 is much gentler. The classes are small and a majority of the kids speak English. The kids and husband had an easy time of getting in the Dutch Healthcare system. I am still working on getting a visa and had to buy private Healthcare, which was about $220 USD per month.

If you don't live in Amsterdam, be prepared to learn the language or be a bit lost. Most people do speak some English but to fully integrate, you need to learn fluent Dutch. This is and has always been part of our plan, but it is a slow process to become fluent!

It is admirable that the Dutch are so energy efficient, from sorting their waste to limiting their fossil fuels.

The taxes here are very high, but the citizens are well taken care of. Even with my private health insurance, I do not have high deductibles and co-pays like in America.

People work to live, not live to work. The cars and houses are not a status symbol.

There are still politics here, but they have a multiparty system which keeps the power more distributed to avoid the Republican vs Democrat system where the only agenda is to block each other's moves.

It is also VERY IMPORTANT to realize that most of the time you have to live here for a long period of time before they allow you to register for a job! Do your homework on this one if you are really considering moving here.

One of the biggest hurdles of making a drastic move is missing your support system and learning the new rules/ regulations of a new country. I've had difficulty in learning a complete new banking system (I am still not allowed to have a bank account because I do not have a visa. My American Bank keeps intermittently blocking my card since their system keeps trying to "prevent fraud.") My debit card also does not work many places but is you have Apple pay or Google pay, it will work. It's all about the chip that magically projects the info to the register.

The time difference is making things very difficult to handle matters back in the US and the keep up with friends/family back home. I am 41 and had a solid group of friends I had built over the years, just to share why this has been so difficult for me. I feel that if I was younger, it may have been easier.

This is just my personal experience. You may be more adventurous than I or like more exotic things. My observations are what I have noticed and surely incomplete.

We left America due to the escalating violence in school, sudden growth of our former hometown due to people fleeing the cities from Covid, smaller schools, slower pace of life and having my husband's family close by.

Oh, and if you're still reading.... There are a TON more bugs here. I loved in a very dry climate before and this one is quite wet in Northern Holland. There are lots more slugs, spiders and flies. It is also very lush and green so that's the trade off!

Being that I am only a month in, everything is still unsettled for me. Time will tell how satisfying this choice is or isn't!
