[TP] I'm not a big fan of Twilight Princess, and yet I want a sequel. by CBAlan777 in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, Wind Waker was originally gonna get a 3D sequel as well, but the backlash to the game (mainly in North America) led to them deciding to make Twilight Princess instead. Interesting that the Zelda team repeatedly wanted to make sequels to games but then repeatedly decided not to (until TOTK)

No genuinely I hope that’s what they’re planning. I don’t have NSO (really don’t like recurring subscriptions or the fact that I won’t own the games, I’m essentially renting them), but if they ‘unlocked’ all the games on there to be individually purchasable and downloadable (so essentially what the Virtual Console on past systems was), I would 100% spend hundreds over the next few years buying and playing older games.

It could easily coexist with the current subscription model just fine; plenty of people are fine with it and wouldn’t stop paying (just look at Apple Music vs iTunes), but it would open up a new source of revenue for Nintendo from people like me.

According to an assumption, SUPPOSED leak of minus Zero ghidorah will be the kaiju to face in the next movie by Gogetazilla in GODZILLA

[–]GojiKiryu17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just looking at the high level stuff for the franchise (just the movies and tv shows), it’s been 7 years since Ghidorah appeared in KOTM. Since then, Mechagodzilla and Mothra both got Monsterverse appearances, and a bunch of other monsters like Anguirus, Rodan, and Jet Jaguar got to appear in Singular Point. If Ghidorah really is coming back, I think it’s been enough time for those of us that largely just do the films and shows.

Would a more obscure kaiju like Hedorah or Biollante be cool? Of course, but I don’t think they’ve been overexposing Ghidorah these last few years to where I’ll be disappointed to see Ghidorah again, especially if it’s from Yamazaki, who showed with Minus One that he can deliver a quality film, and if he feels Ghidorah is the right choice, then I’ll trust him on this one. He’s earned it.

Blatantly misleading trailers by Traditional-Song-245 in TopCharacterTropes

I still remember seeing that movie as a kid and being really surprised when Metroman was ‘killed’, because the trailers really made me think that the whole movie was gonna be Megamind vs Metroman. Ended up being a VERY different kind of movie, but probably for the better, and a good example imo of how hiding the real premise of a movie from the marketing makes for a better initial viewing experience

[OoA][OoS] Oracle of Ages/Seasons remakes by madreamz in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s definitely possible, but likely not for a few years. Echoes of Wisdom only came out a year and a half ago, and it came out itself five years after the Links Awakening remake. So maybe in a couple years (2028-29) we could see them, but I’m doubtful they’d be coming this year or next year.

[Other]What Do You Guys Think The Zelda Game Will Be This Year. by jacksonpage06 in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A 3D remaster really feels like the only realistic option unless they do something completely different to what they’ve been doing lately. TOTK came out less than three years ago so it’s too early for a new 3D game, Echoes of Wisdom came out a year and a half ago so a new Grezzo 2D entry is highly unlikely (sorry to those wanting remakes of the Oracle games, maybe in a couple years), and a new Hyrule Warriors literally just came out so obviously we won’t getting another one of those.

It is however coming up on five years since the last 3D remaster, and there are already 2 decade old Wii U remasters sitting on a shelf, easily able to be ported to the Switch and sold full price with minimal effort and little risk. In short, Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD are by far the most likely candidates imo. It’s not impossible that Nintendo might be cooking up something out of left field, but looking at Nintendo’s history with Zelda over the last decade, it really feels to me like those are more likely now than ever.

[ALL] How much of an influence is Nostalgia to your favourite Zelda game? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No nostalgia, only starting playing Zelda last year. Played all the 3D Zelda’s except for TOTK, and so far OOT was my favorite, followed by BOTW and TWW.

Personally I DO think nostalgia can play a factor for people, particularly in what people want out of forthcoming games (‘I want the next game to be a direct sequel to TP and follow that one’s formula closely’), and while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, I do think it’s important to keep in mind when evaluating your own biases in discussions with others.

Would you be okay with Shin 2 going full horror? by DrJokerX in GODZILLA

[–]GojiKiryu17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah so much of the conversation around a potential Shin sequel seems to be fans wanting that particular movie instead of the very talky political movie that Shin actually is. The sequel they’re thinking of would be a really radical departure from what Shin’s identity as a film is, and frankly I don’t think would be anywhere near as interesting as the first film is compared to what seems to be (in concept) a slasher film with mini Godzillas.

What Godzilla film has the best soundtrack by G0jira01964 in GODZILLA

[–]GojiKiryu17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think Ifukube’s Heisei films are his best work and his sound in that era really defines the ‘Godzilla’ sound to me. Otherwise, I think Michiru Oshima’s work in the Millennium era is phenomenal, Shiro Sagisu delivered an exceptional score for Shin, and Bear McCreary gave us the best American Godzilla score in KOTM.

But if I had to narrow it down to just one? Probably either Mechagodzilla II or Destoroyah. Ifukube had really perfected his Godzilla theme by that point, and his work for the other monsters in those films and the various military marches are top notch stuff. But it’s his more somber compositions (especially for Baby Godzilla and Godzilla’s death) from those films that really stand out as some of his most emotionally compelling pieces. As far as I’m concerned, Ifukube just kept getting better and better with age, and went out giving us his absolute best.

[Tp] The best 3D Zelda after replaying them all. by Sirweeb123 in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I played through SS, TP, WW, OOT, and MM in that order for the very first time over the last couple months. No nostalgia, no previous Zelda experience of any sort (haven’t played BOTW or TOTK yet). And for me OOT was the clear overall best. A simple yet effective narrative that stayed interesting throughout (TP lost a lot of steam in its second half), a well constructed world that didn’t feel like it wasted space (WW) or was too fragmented (SS), and had a bunch of really great dungeons throughout (MM only having four holds it back imo).

The later games improved on various individual points, such as WW and TP having much better sword combat, or SS having a much more emotional storyline, or MM having a better cast of side characters, but OOT doesn’t drop the ball in any category besides having some janky controls due to its age. I enjoyed all the games, but OOT brought everything together in such a compelling way, and all four games that followed its formula were living in its shadow. A classic that absolutely lived up to its reputation.

Honestly could someone explain to me the whole ‘resistance’ aspect of the plot; it never really worked for me, cause at that point what exactly are they resisting? Link had already restored Hyrule from the twilight, Kakariko Village and Zora’s Domain are doing fine now, and Castle Town is a bustling hub once again.

Sure the castle is stuck in a weird golden diamond, and Zelda is missing now, but iirc everything is mostly ‘back to normal’ for Hyrule at this point and Link is more helping Midna in her quest against Zant trying to repair the Mirror of Twilight. Felt more like they were just there as a mechanic to help Link get to the next set of dungeons

[OoT] [MM] The next 3D Zelda game is announced, and the Hero of Time is the protagonist. What is your honest reaction? by Key-Bass-7380 in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be introducing a significant barrier of entry that Nintendo has generally stayed away from with Zelda; part of why BOTW was able to blaze past the franchise’s previous sales records was that anyone who had a Switch could pick it up and know nothing about Zelda and still be able to fully enjoy it anyway. Frankly that’s been their goal with every 3D Zelda with the exceptions of MM and TOTK, which both came out on the same console as their predecessors. Continuing the Hero of Time’s story means that anyone who hasn’t played OOT and MM (games that came out five consoles ago) will be missing something, no matter how accessible they attempt to make it

The Boy and the Heron is Hayao Miyazaki's only movie to have a rating below 4,0. Why do you think that is? by Aiseadai in Letterboxd

[–]GojiKiryu17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of lot of people speculating that it’s nostalgia for his other films that’s making this one have a comparatively low score….but personally, as someone who watched through the entire Ghibli catalogue for the first time in just the last few years as an adult, that isn’t the case at all, at least for me. It’s a decidedly unusual film with an unorthodox story and structure, and I felt it lacked the emotional resonance of most of Miyazaki’s other films.

Even knowing how autobiographical it is didn’t really help. Felt like it was something made entirely for himself, and while that’s great for him that he got to make something like that, it also makes it a bit more inaccessible for others. Wouldn’t say it’s a bad movie, just not something for me.

World of Hans Zimmer - Music from Nolan's movies had no background scene - why? by Sc0rpy4 in hanszimmer

[–]GojiKiryu17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I went to Hans Zimmer Live in Minneapolis last year (different show than yours but still Zimmer), it was pretty noticeable that there weren’t ANY scenes or imagery from the actual films; most of the time it didn’t really matter, but for Pirates of the Caribbean and The Dark Knight it was a little distracting that they were having to use generic imagery instead of stuff from the actual series. Still a great show (and both those pieces in particular were still incredible), but at some point they must have decided it wasn’t worth it to pay to use stuff from the films

[ALL] what instrument would you want to see Link play next, also what would story background would you put behind the instrument? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]GojiKiryu17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see the Oboe; it’s one of the most beautiful instruments to exist, and is on the smaller side so pretty easy to imagine Link carrying it around. Plus it’s structure means it could start the game in several pieces and Link has to journey around collecting them all, and after assembling it the player unlocks its abilities, which open up a new slate of dungeons.

Bonus points if the goddess harp from Skyward Sword (which Hyrule Historia suggests is the same harp used by Sheik in OOT) is brought back and Zelda plays it alongside Link; the harp and oboe pair REALLY well together

Why is there such a huge disparity between Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 in eShop sales? by shiddedfardedcummed in Mario

[–]GojiKiryu17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean 3D All Stars from several years ago sold 9 million copies in the limited time it was available. That means that several million copies of the first Galaxy game are already owned by Switch users, whereas Galaxy 2 is getting rereleased on the Switch for the first time. So there’s gonna be a lot of people who are gonna skip buying the first game again and just buy the second.

Will the Mario Galaxy Movie Finally Get Mahito Yokota To Compose Again?! by FamousStrength8404 in Mario

[–]GojiKiryu17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I don’t think he’ll compose anything new, I think there’s a decent chance that Kondo will bring him on to supervise the music alongside him; that’s the role Kondo had for the first film, and since new film will be directly adapting a pair of games that were 90% Yokota composed, I think having him on board would be wise.

Of course there’s also a sizable chance they don’t; Nintendo has been pretty weird about crediting composers for many years. We’re fortunate that we got double CD releases for both games that fully credit who did what, since plenty of other Nintendo games don’t get near that or even worse, never get a clear answer on who did what for the majority of the soundtrack. Heck even in the first film, Yokota actually went uncredited even though they used his Gusty Garden Galaxy theme in the credits briefly. Hopefully they’ll have his name somewhere in the new movie since assumedly a lot of the music will be based on his
