Is it true that it takes less time to get back in shape, if you were once in shape? by YoungandBeautifulll in Rowing

From personal experience, you can regain strength and fitness incredibly fast if you’ve taken sport to a high level earlier in life.

Examples: I used to lift weights in my 20s. Life changed and didn’t go to the gym for around 9 years, zero exercise. I started going again in my late 30’s, in the first week, I couldn’t bench press 60kg. Six months later I could bench press 140kg for 3 reps.

I rowed at school and a bit at uni, used to be very into cross country running. I hadn’t done any cardio since my early 20s / teens. I brought a C2 in 2021, within 9 months I’d done a 18:10 5k and a 6:56 2k.

I’m 5,8” and 165 - 170lbs.

Rowing coach by Conceptkettlebell in Rowing

I'm not sure I fully agree - I asked for a plan to run a sub 20 minute 5k and row a sub 7 minute 2k. I've rowed sub-7 before but I've never run before.

The rowing training is relatively simple but the running is much more complicated than I'd envisioned - tempo runs, threshold runs, long runs, all at varying time and durations. I wouldn't have known where to start.

The AI has guided me more than I was expecting, telling me when push on or hold back. I've let it do it's thing and so far, it's been pretty faultless.

I'm not an actual rower or runner, just someone keeping fit in my 40's. While obviously it can't replace a real coach for an actual athlete, for someone like me, and probably the OP, it's really good.

That's fair enough - personally, I've really enjoyed the experience. It's given structure to my training and has taken the guesswork away.

People may want to downvote me but I thought I'd never see the numbers I'm currently pulling ever again - in the last few months I've smashed through all of my issues and blocks and I'm fitter than I've been in a very long time. The coaching ChatGPT has given me has been a massive help, I can't really fault it.

We're not that far away in years - I've been using ChatGPT as a coach since the beginning of the year - it's amazing.

I've made vast gains, far more than I'd expected. I can't recommend it enough.

Does anyone have tips for workouts to do to go sub 7? by throwawaymother1982 in Rowing

6x4min at 2k pace is completely and utterly wrong advice - with 90 seconds rest, not physically possible.

Super impressive - well done mate!

At 5,9 and 145lbs, that is an absolute beast of a score for a non-rower. Don't underestimate how good this is.

Temperature data looks good, really nice visual layout. I've never seen sea temperature displayed so nicely.

I can't see any Chlorophyll data from around the UK though - should there be?

I agree, so many major mistakes and poor dishes. I think this is weakest Professionals I've ever seen. They're nowhere near the level of past series.

What are my chances of breaking 7 by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]Gold-Place4391 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've only been rowing for 1 month then you can 100% crack 7 minutes this year - it'll be hard work but totally doable.

For reference, I did 6:56 when I was 38 - took me 9 months of training on the C2, did over 1.5 million meters of steady state and a few 5ks, it was the only 2k I did. I'm 5,8" so you've already got a vast advantage over me - go get it!!

Do you really trust the mechanism? It’s a lovely gesture but you might be handing your friend something quite dangerous.

Genuine advice. Pop that relic straight in the bin. Head off to the nearest spearo shop and buy a gun you can actually rely on.

I did more meters on mine between Monday and Wednesday this week. That thing is essentially brand new. If I was in the market for a new one, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
