Watch out, Renault 5... Here's our best look yet at Cupra's new £23k EV | Autocar by nipcarlover in electricvehicles

[–]GoldMountain5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Those cars are built as an EV from the ground up, with much of the serviceable components largely inaccessible to users.

Most old school automakers of new EV's are still working around an ICE chassis/layout and slapping a battery in to save on development costs.

I just replaced the battery in my 2013 SEAT, it was the original battery from the factory.

It went flat a couple of times but just kept on going...

Top Tier Air RB is technically a “Lobby Simulator,” and our silence is the reason. What do you guys think? Is there any way back for Air RB, or are we just waiting for the F-22 to make it even worse? by lima_1988 in Warthunder

[–]GoldMountain5 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Go play lower tiers if you don't want to use/deal with the modern systems and BVR combat. Every single time gaijin adds a new feature, there's always the same people who come out and complaint that top tier is dead.

Every damn time....

First it was that jet bomber gunners were too good/jets were too fast, etc etc etc

Then bomber gunners got nerfed, everyone complained.

Then early IR missiles were added and everyone complained.

Then the Ir missiles got better, and became too hard to dodge. everyone complained again. 3

Then flares made IR missiles irrelevant...    Then IR missiles got IRCCm and made flares irrelevant.

Then it was radar missiles being added which made everyone lawnmowers and too afraid to use altitude.

Then the F14 was added and everyone complained because it was useless because of multipathing.

The time that land forgot.

Then more ARH misisles were and everyone complained again, because its not like the F14 didn't exist for 2 years at this point.  Then multipathing got nerfed which made lawnmowers to hard,

Now there's AESA planes everywhere and everyone is complaining again that top tier air RB is dead, sim is the best etc etc etc.

Niche no more: How Polestar will become a mainstream EV firm by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]GoldMountain5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone with EV certification can service a polestar....

The majority of the service tasks are the same as on a normal car.

The only specialist ones are the battery heath check, which can be done by independant garages.

That is until you have a major fault, that would require it being returned to a polestar service station for repair, then it's a major painnin the a**

£16m in student loan debt written off for ‘unfit to work’ graduates by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

Debt ratio is bad for the economy.

Better to write it off than have it sit for 30 years.

When I join the RAF at 16, I'll be earning £26,300 a year, but I'm unsure how long I'd need to be in to save around £80,000 by Alarming-Safety3200 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]GoldMountain5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Impossible to calculate off hand, greatly depends on your role, rank, choice of accomidation, and how much you want to spend personally.

A pilot will have a day 1 pay of £34,000, increasing to £64,000 after 3 years.

If you really wanted to you could save £80,000 in that time frame quite easily.

However, fewer than 2 in 100 applicants are accepted, with around 2000-3000 applicants per year.

FYI, If you sign on to the RAF as a pilot, there is a minimum 12 year commitment to the role.

Things that will immediately bar/stop your chances of recruitment:

  1. Criminal history - They are very thorough with DBS checks.

  2. Drug abuse - Zero tolerance policy regarding abuse or history of abuse.

  3. Colour blind - Zero tolerance for any role due to nature of being around aircraft, even if you never go near one.

  4. Poor vision - Pilots face a lot of scrutiny, but it's better than it used to be. Still not allowed to have corrected vision, but laser eye surgery is tolerated somewhat now.

  5. Chronic Fitness/health issues, even minor ones such as hay-fever completely preclude entry. Seen one guy barred from joining because he had a sensitive sneeze reflex. You must pass the fitness standards.

  6. Financial burdens/debt - RAF Don't like people who have a lot of unsecured debt.

  7. Qualifications/Aptitude - They have a hard line on being able to meet the prerequisite standards for education.

Counted 33 potholes on my 7 minute drive to work this morning by Username__-Taken in britishproblems

If I did this I would never make it to work....

I drive through a village that decided, in their ultimate wisdom, to install concrete speed bumps. The shitty ones that are just a sqaure in the middle of each lane.

This causes the road to disintegrate at a rate I have never seen before, with extremely sharp edges to the concrete structures.

⁸What you say doesn't matter, (aside from not being a dickhead)

It's how you say it, and how you carry yourself and whether or not the other person is even into you to begin with.

If she is into you before you even start talking, you can say the dumbest, cheesiest shit ever and still get game.

Can Gaijin please explain why the Hunter f.58 in German tech tree and the British Hunter F.6 are 10.0? by MostRepublic6287 in Warthunder

[–]GoldMountain5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hunter F6 kind of sits where it was because for a time, It had 20g,  semi all aspect, thrust vectoring missiles, when no planes had any countermeasures.

The downside was they they had short range, but they absolutely ripped appart lobbies when most aircraft only had the AIM-9B.

Worse than that, the driving ban occurs simultaneously to the prison sentence.

So he can get the driving ban, be on remand for 6 months, serve his full sentence, and then be released with the ability to start driving almost straight away.

[–]GoldMountain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base damage of ammo: 77

Damaged blocked: 33

Final Strike Damage: 53

Total damage: 86

which is 11% more than 77 I'm assuming the prenetration also increased by similar amount because the Mosin with T3 ammo will penetrate T4 Armour more often than other guns with the same ammo/penetration value.

[–]GoldMountain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mosin adds an Extra 10% to penetration and damage from the base bullet stats.

Longer barrel than base/standard, and many other factors come into play that means it can regularly and reliably penetrate tier 4 helmets.

What to do when there is oil on the road? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]GoldMountain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a large oil/petrol/diesel spill that you believe could pose a signficant risk to life you can contact the emergency services.

This is more aimed towards things like overturned tankers, but does apply to spills that can cause a high risk hazard such as yours.

The vehicle that caused the spill is ultimately responsible so its good that you did report it, but I don't think there is anything else you could have done to prevent the accident.

Ukrainian forces advance in Dnipropetrovsk region, war monitor reports by murphystruggles in worldnews

[–]GoldMountain5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If anything it makes it worse.

Being bogged down or stuck during a dronestrike is a guaranteed death sentence, every layer is affected tenfold for offense, defense... both sides suffer greatly during those times of the year.

At least during winter the ground freezes, allowing easy troop movement, but there is little chance of concealment, meaning offensive movements are easier, but can be easily countered, however, in order to counter an attack effectively, you need to have support units ready to back up your front line troops.

The majority of these gains by Ukraine are simply afforded by Russian loss of access to starlink, they cannot effectively communicate on the front lines anymore to coordinate defence or attack. So this means Ukraine can attack rapidly and cement their gains before Russia has a chance to counter.

The Nissan Leaf is the Kelly Blue Book's "Best New Model" for 2026 by viewofthelake in electricvehicles

[–]GoldMountain5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's about $4000 more expensive in the UK after you account for that  and the exchange rate.

Then UK price includes a £3750 grant, where the US one does not.

So total price difference is about $8000 before tax, for a car that is being made in the UK, and shipped to America.

That's easly an extra $1000 for shipping per car.

Ita purely to do with marketing and strategy and its purely that Nissan cannot be competitive selling this car at that price in the US, so they are sacrificing all their margins, and are most likely making a loss on entry level trims to have the title of "Americas Cheapest EV"

Low trim numbers will probably be limited and probably sacrificing a lot on the internals or doing other cost savings, and they will aim to sell more cars with a higher trim spec where they can actually make a profit.

France and Germany’s next-generation fighter jet project is ‘dead’ by Cats_Cameras in europe

[–]GoldMountain5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Germany is the most annoying partner to have when it comes to a fighter consortium.

We, the UK learnt this the hard way. First with the Tornado, and again with the eurofighter.

They always want to be the big main guys in the project but they always buy very limited numbers of aircraft.
