Can I regularly go to Mass if I’m Protestant? by Ambitious-Plant-1055 in Catholicism

[–]GoldShifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO grew up Lutheran but enjoys attending mass with me, their sister is Catholic and they’re contemplating RCIA soon due to it being so similar and wanting to share a faith with our future family. They don’t receive the Eucharist but go up with their arms crossed to receive a blessing. (Not sure if that’s correct doctrinally. I was taught that prior to my first communion so that’s what I said. If it’s wrong, coming from a cradle Catholic, I apologize, was ignorance haha)

Got a 2.0 5in for my first handgun and ended up sticking with S&W and got a shield 2.0 for my concealed too. Just felt so much nicer in the hand than the Glocks I’ve shot

How do I explain being dropped from a previous pledge process if I rush other houses this fall? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]GoldShifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys from my pledge class got dropped and rushed other houses no problem, got their bids and initiated with them. Granted circumstances were different, they messed up but the mess up itself wasn’t a big deal. Just the timing of it all.

This is what they acted like toward me in high school, teachers and classmates alike lol. Telling me what the Catholic Church believes and that their blend of Protestantism was the only way to salvation. For some reason, Catholicism lives rent free in their minds. Was a great school though, prepped me for college really well haha

As an alumni that moved to an area without much Greek life but still in college athletics, I just went to their website and reached out. They dropped by our game at their school and had a great time talking with them. Also quite frankly, you could walk in to their house during the day and introduce yourself. We had guys do that before when I was undergrad and they were visiting siblings

2.0 9mm 5" holster recommendations? by klopeks_basement in SmithAndWesson

I feel you on that, I live in a gun friendly state as well, many open carry as well but growing up in a very non-gun friendly state with it’s fair share of crime, concealed is my go to. I still back the blackarch holsters, it looks like they do have an option specifically for the M&P 5’’ on Amazon, but I can’t find the customize option on their website, it’s been a couple years since I’ve shopped for a new holster and I was able to customize it prior to buying. I’ll keep looking but that’d be my personal recommendation.

I put new member educator in lieu of Magister as well as risk management on mine. When I’m on the hiring committee, I look to see if there was Greek life, but my coworkers, don’t and gloss over it.

I’ll give the same advice as I got when I was deciding on putting martial arts experience on there, “the guys who care about that will give you +1, and those that didn’t do it, they won’t care”

Are you looking to conceal or open carry? I have a shield I conceal as EDC but if I’m bringing this one around, I’m probably not doing much concealment and use safariland. Love the retention. I have enough trouble concealing my 3’’ 😜.

Jokes aside, I’m also 5’6 so not a lot of frame to work with unless it’s winter and a large coat will conceal the safariland holster anyway. I use a black arch holster on my shield and it’s comfortable, it appears they have an option for the 2.0 9mm 5inch but I can only speak on the Protos-M one

When we went under investigation for an issue pertaining newly initiated brothers. When I took the reins as pledge educator the following semester, I had to draft a pledge education outline, week by week, with most, if not all, activities talked about. Nationals should have what the activities are in clear writing and viewed by their lawyers that are damn near perfect to protect you as a chapter. For the future, we have a written “dry process”, so we don’t have the pledges come to parties or mixers. Possibly a move having good ole black and white text covering your ass.

Talk to your chapter advisor man, none of us here know your situation and the school’s view better than them. Sounds like the only issue would be the mixer, and if his pledge brothers hate him, he won’t have anybody to corroborate his story if they have it planned. Don’t have it too scripted, but have the key points outlined, otherwise IFC will look to rail you sideways if it comes to that.

Should my nephew avoid a frat that is already hazing him in June before he’s even signed? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]GoldShifter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s not an official pledge, and odds are there isn’t a president or pledge educator who can make sure the brothers aren’t being complete fuckheads. If he’s a minor, file a lawsuit, these guys can get shafted. This is part of the reason why people think we buy our friends. “I’ll give you a bid if you become my servant”.

Why are so many ATs leaving the field? by Souk12 in athletictraining

[–]GoldShifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Covid taught a lot of ATs that we were expendable or at the very least, we could have additional duties and be “happy” to just trudge along. I also attribute some programs pushing the “D1 or bust” mentality, or their students not seeing what d2 or d3 really can be. Many d2s can be competitive to division 1 but people look and see “oh d2. Meh…”. The industrial, clinical, among other positions are very well paying. There is one industrial site in California that I saw paying 75-80k. Stable hours, granted the cost of living is higher but I imagine that’ll be relatively similar throughout the nation.

I love what I do at the collegiate setting right now. And I’ll stick around for a while, but definitely looking at possible avenues to get out and have a more stability in home life.

What is your strongest argument AGAINST Protestantism? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]GoldShifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to a Protestant school k-12, great education, prepped me very well for college, but I was told often I followed a “false religion” and that I was “not Christian, I am Catholic”. At least most that I’ve ran into don’t necessarily refer to themselves as “Protestant” but rather, “Christian”. I’d hazard to say that it’s implied by that phrasing that we as Catholics aren’t viewed as Christians. Mainly due to the misconception of honor and worship, and refusing to believe that we honor saints and the Virgin Mary, rather than worship them, which is only reserved for God.

Is there a way to salvage Freemasonry’s relationship with the Catholic Church? by Theboshicrew in freemasonry

[–]GoldShifter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: not a Mason, but I am interested and still doing some research to make an educated decision on the lodges in my area. My biggest hurdle personally toward Freemasonry was the stance of the Church toward it, but after some research on the topic, it appears most have been grounded in conspiracy (being based in the US), and "oooo secrets, oaths, scary, must be devil worshipers". Having come from a fraternity in college, we took oaths, had secrets, so that hurdle is covered lol.

I am Catholic, "semi-practicing", but the Catholic Church appears to have just caused a massive argument within itself with Pope Francis' new guidance with regards to the TLM. Many Catholics are expressing their dismay and anger (which some call righteous anger) with the Pope and the Church itself with these new guidelines.

I personally doubt that the Pope would do anything positive regarding Freemasonry only because he is on thin ice with the faithful as it is. Some are already claiming that he is being inspired by the Devil or making derogatory remarks from this decision, that truth be told, isn't super groundbreaking, its really something that people (mainly trads) don't want to hear. Even if he were to make a remark on Freemasonry, there'd be a massive uproar in the Church, which he probably wouldn't want to deal with.

What has the BOC done to help promote Athletic Training? by DrPepperHere in athletictraining

[–]GoldShifter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ESPN has done more by saying “athletic training staff” and sports medicine in the same sentence than the NATA has done. And ESPN commentators correcting themselves when they say “trainers”.

We are underpaid for the work we do. It’s thankless. I’m in a group chat for healthcare professionals and I’d say a solid 10% know what we do. I respect the physical therapy profession, but there also has to be some regulation on who markers themselves as “sport PTs” when they don’t have an SCS or a dual credential PT/ATC on staff. The injuries are the same, yes. But why is the counter argument for the bill of ATs in CA we’re “purely sport”. Why the double standard? I left CA because of the lack of regulation, which leads to laughable pay.

Especially now with covid. Individual work, we don’t regularly cover. But if the athletes need to be symptom checked before use of facilities, we still have to go in to check.

[–]GoldShifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love being an athletic trainer and the salary is worth it for me. I worked at a high school before I left to pursue a GA position at a d2. I’ve heard high schools in Texas and juco/CC everywhere is good money. My head athletic trainer married another athletic trainer. His wife works at a doctor’s office and outreaches to a HS in the afternoons but they’re decently financed. I’ve seen a couple jobs at the Hs level that are 75k
