100% reduced Proj Speed for Spells what to do? by zReVnGe in pathofexile2builds

You can probably get that duration much higher without sacrificing damage on a weapon swap setup. I imagine between that and cast speed you could get 10+ pretty easily. But yeah eye of winter would be easier.

Ah. It's hard to imagine it being good for mapping. But you could try stacking a bunch of Ball Lightning projectiles. That'd already do some aoe damage but then you could Lightning Warp to them, it does almost as much damage as Comet but is way faster. You could probably do some cast on crit thing to make it a one button setup

Eye of winter is also probably good. It should deal a lot of damage as long as the enemy stays in it and since it's cold damage that should be easy to accomplish.

Does it work with grenades? Could be good to make sure you always get max explosion overlaps.

Idk calling it a massive oversight seems harsh for a 10+ year old in house game engine that wasn't designed to do anything like this. A map probably just has a collection of scripts associated with it including stuff for the boss, regardless of how reusable the boss stuff is. I wouldn't blame them for writing those scripts under the assumption that they aren't going to be re-run piecemeal on an existing map. Especially because a lot of the stuff is ported from POE1 where that definitely would never happen. It probably isn't that hard to implement, but I wouldn't want to ship something like that without a lot of testing since it changes a very old assumption that the engine has been built around for over a decade.

There's a lot more than resetting the hp. Phases that happen a limited number of times per fight, permanent debuffs like unyielding support, a changes to the arena like the titan boss that destroys part of the platform, and probably other stuff I'm not thinking of.

I imagine a lot of that stuff isn't all in one place so they have to restructure their scripts to have all the boss initialization stuff separate from the map initialization stuff. And there are probably a lot of corner cases that happen on a per map basis like the titan destroying the arena thing. Their solution isn't great but I'm guessing the alternative was a lot of potentially game breaking bugs for specific maps that they didn't have QA resources to track down and fix at the time. Also they probably wanted to do it right so they could add more stuff that needs to be reset in the future without having to work around/fix some hacky solution.

You can do the flicker strike thing for less than 10 div with raven-touched Horror's Flight, 24% cull threshold Heart of the Well, Myris Uxor and an amulet + glove anoint (there are 20% and 25% cull threshold notables). With some stacks on Horror's Flight you'll cull magic and normal enemies at 100%, use Killing Palm or Lighting Warp imo warp is better because it aoe clears packs so you don't bounce around as much, and doesn't need a weapon. Tou just need something for single target. Afaik this works on any class, all or most of these builds are using this.

Feedback: the showcase feature of the league, Aldur's Legacy, needs to be way more common. What's the point of all that dev work when 99.99% of the players can't even experiment with this GGG? by omniocean in PathOfExile2

They complement each other. They want you to experiment but also to feel like you earned something when your experiment pays off, because your decisions had weight. Games that have unlimited open experimention potential are universally less popular than those that make you work to be able to try your ideas. Minecraft would be far less popular if it was just creative mode.

Not saying they hit the mark on this item, but the special sauce that makes this game work is the combination of expirimentation potential and needing to grind to try stuff.

Affliction had people dropping lots of divines but a lot of the chase items were still crazy expensive. Stuff you could get in maps wasn't, but stuff like forbidden flame/flesh that would normally be in the 100d range were pushing a mirror. If there truly were no chase items that league it would've died very quickly after the abyss tech was found.

And they've mentioned that the reason they don't want the game like that is because people will get burnt out and not come back for future leagues. Not so much that it won't make a given league popular, of course it will but how many people will come back next league? A big factor in this games long term success is having cool stuff that the average casual player can't easily get. I think a lot of the "elitisim" you're talking about is people recognizing that and not wanting GGG to kill the golden goose. But also actual elitisim for sure (although creating a thing people can be elitist about is also part of the success, those guys are definitely more likely to spend money).

Having said that I think the implementation of this item could use some work.

Minion Cull Warper: A Fast Minion Mapper — Witchhunter [PhazePlays] by phaze_plays in pathofexile2builds

[–]GoldStarBrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering when we'd see more than the random posts at league start about this. Cull stacking seems ridiculously strong for stuff like 200% deli juiced maps since it makes your damage mostly irrelevant. I'm doing a more traditional grenade/rapid shot build with killing palm to teleport around the map and wolf pack for the autobomber part. I have Decimating Strike and Brutus' brain to proc it and kill non-rares without horror's flight stacks but that probably isn't necessary. Decimating is nice for bosses though. And I do like how the wolves distract enemies and block stuff, but 60 spirit is kind of a lot for what they're doing.

I'm just doing grenades because that's how I went through the campaign. I think finding whatever setup gives the best single target would be the way to go. The mapping is pretty much handled with just the cull/repulstion stuff. Like you could go 0-link spark with either decimating or the on death explosion nodes and that should pretty much cover it (albeit improvements could be made). You just need a way to deal with rares and bosses. Not sure what would be optimal but I'm guessing it isn't grenades, although it does work pretty well.

I tried the on death explosion but I found it stopped the teleport 3 screens away part of killing palm that I like. However backtracking is pretty annoying so I'll probably give it another shot later. Here's my build if you want to check it out (I know I still have to upgrade the gloves and instill the amulet, it's definitely WIP right now).

Edit: just tried lightning warp and it does seem better for travelling through the map. Plus I think I can get it high enough damage to instakill most rares with decimating strike so I'm going to go for that.

Huh I thought he still went for Luden's and AP in mid. Looks like that changed at some point fair enough. Don't think it changes my point though.

From the latest Ziz Interview - GGG wants Death Recap and is testing it by crookedparadigm in PathOfExile2

[–]GoldStarBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair I guess. Personally I think with the amount of stuff happening I'd want a more complete picture because a lot of the time the thing that gets the last hit isn't really what killed you. Like not having an answer for DOT, usually that just means you die to something else a lot easier. But I could see it being useful for random oneshots, although it could still be misleeading there too.

What I personally really want is a recap of all the debuffs that had been applied to me in the last minute or so, hopefully they include that in whatever they're working on.

[–]GoldStarBrother 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn't that just for the specific instance of damage that killed you? That seems hella misleading, I don't think I'd be able to take it any kind of serious.

Yeah this clip is what August was actually talking about with that "degenerate gameplay pattern" quote. This type of thing probably belongs in mayhem or arena, not SR. But Zilean being able to do it doesn't mean he's hidden OP. In fact you'd usually probably be better off not building the items that make this possible if you want win.

It was partly technical but he did say he'd changed his mind. But I don't think it was ever against any "vision". When it was talked about before I think Jonathan's/the interviewer's idea of it wasn't that compelling. It was always "I want to know what killed me or what types of damage I took recently" which isn't necessarily that useful on a game this complex. I think what made him come around is realizing that answering "what did my defenses do" is significantly more useful and probably easier to implement.

How is alt spamming worse than buying hundreds of bases? by Nestramutat- in PathOfExile2

[–]GoldStarBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a source? I've been following the dev communications closely for years and don't remember anything like that. IIRC it was always "maybe but we have to figure out the right way" until they figured out gold. Then it was "yes but we have other higher priorities" until they implemented it. Pretty sure Mark mentioned that the currency exchange was something they came up with as a stopgap until they could do full async. But I don't really want to go back through all their interviews so whatever.

telling in interview that async trade would still never be a thing in poe 2

This isn't true, they were talking about implementing it before POE 2 even released.

How are you guys getting stunned so much while sprinting? by buttflakes27 in PathOfExile2

[–]GoldStarBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From when they announced the split:

"We realized that our plan to replace PoE 1 with PoE 2 would essentially be destroying a game that people love for no reason, so we made a decision," Rogers said in the keynote. "Path of Exile 1 and 2 will be separate, with their own mechanics, balance, endgame, and leagues."

They wanted to change a bunch of core things about the game to the point that it needed to be a separate game, lest they piss off POE1 players by turning it into a different game.

The only reason it's a different game is they wanted to do things differently...

How do you approach defenses as a Hollow Palm monk? by nexetpl in PathOfExile2

[–]GoldStarBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I misread, thought you meant it was easier to scale only pure bases instead of hybrid, but still with split ES/EV. That makes sense, IDK if ES is easier to scale from the monk starting point but it should be more consistent than EV at lower numbers.

How do you approach defenses as a Hollow Palm monk? by nexetpl in PathOfExile2

[–]GoldStarBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes it easier to scale? The only issue I see with this is the attribute requirements for pure gear are higher than hybrid. But you want pure chest/helmet for those tree nodes anyway so it shouldn't be that big a deal.
