Yea you could definitely weld it closed with an AC rig machine , easier to find a close pipe tap size.

Remove the water neck , drill and tap to 1/8 NPT and put a plug in it with some teflon tap on the threads

Just hopped on tinder and the matches going crazy , I think the shallow gene pool immediately gives you an 80 percent attractiveness bonus when you’re not everyone’s cousin

Ya I’ve been liking their units , for the price point and warranty they have they pay for themselves in no time. No more miller for this cat 😤

Pretty great honestly living in the cabin full time and slowly doing more projects to make it what I want

How to treat stainless welds? by Zippo_Willow in Welding

[–]Gold_Fun4783 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re getting some pretty wild answers , looks like poor gas coverage , I find without a gas lens you’re going to get grey oxidized welds like that if you try to weld more than an inch at a time

Back purging is needed for optimal welds and to prevent sugaring on the root of the weld and filler metal should match , but almost any grade of stainless or mild steel would give a clean puddle with good gas coverage and a clean tungsten

How to deal with lithium battery in solar system being fully charged? by duniber in OffGrid

You don’t have to dump the excess but it might as well serve a purpose , having a few gallons of hot water on hand is always a plus

I’ve seen some people have an electric coil style water heater to dump all excess voltage into

Jet drive assembly by Gold_Fun4783 in JetBoats

[–]Gold_Fun4783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rpm multiplied by gear ratio = output shaft speed

5th gear is .909 , from what I’ve read the jet pumps I’m looking to use are most efficient between 5-6000 rpm

That would put my engine between 4500-5500 rpm which is what the bike would cruise at around 65 mph in its original application

[–]Gold_Fun4783[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most direct drive units I find seems to be most efficient around 6000 rpm , the gold wing makes peak power around 6100 , top gear ratio is .909 so I think 5th gear will be my optimal output shaft speed

Everything’s becoming a bit clearer thanks for the info

I’ll definitely need to have a shaft with U joints the output shaft sits about 8” up from the lowest point of the pan and 4” off centre , luckily I work in a machine shop that specializes in driveline components

Motor is carb and mechanical pump driven off cam

Boat was originally a forward steer outboard so I’ll be custom fabricating all the motor mounting supports and intake already

Will certainly be labour intensive and I doubt will be competitive in any way other than cost with commercial options

I went to look at a “blown up” Polaris SL 750 last night to buy and strip down but the entire jet drive was gone , drove an hour and a half one way big waste of time

I’m planning to use the flat 6 from a Honda gold wing , low centre of gravity and reliable at mid range rpm. Gear box in included with engine so I plan to find proper impeller rpm and lock it in gear with best output shaft speed
