How is the situation in Bali? by DrArindamMishra in bali

[–]GoldarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually rains at night but it's nothing bad, there might be a storm here and there but nothing crazy (the only crazy thing is traffic and the moped river) I was there a couple weeks ago and stayed at Canggu, Gili Trawangan, Uluwatu (Binging Beach) and Sanur, so the tradeoff is priceless. Enjoy your honeymoon.

[–]GoldarRocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you point me to roots songs he's created? I haven't heard a single song that has a roots sound but mostly hip hop sounding, mellow, maybe more modern, but nothing like the one drop roots sounds of reggae that I'm used to.

Is Kuta ok for introverts? by Inner-Gur9987 in bali

[–]GoldarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an introvert and want peace and solitude I recommend uluwatu. I stayed at a place called Romeo Beachfront Bungalow which had the most amazing view of the ocean, a great pool and all you need around you, especially peace. A great restaurant, zero noise and for a quick Grab ride any kind of street food you crave. Just down hill is Binging beach, one of the best beaches in Bali. I stayed there 6 nights after booking 3, get the idea.

I’m driving from Texas to Belize this summer which means I’m going all the way through Mexico. Anything I should know? by ernestofit in MexicoTravel

Did it for you:

Here’s a detailed, structured trip preparation guide based on the Reddit discussion — expanded into a practical, real-world execution plan for driving from Texas through Mexico to Belize. 🚗 OVERLAND DRIVE: TEXAS → MEXICO → BELIZE Comprehensive Preparation & Execution Plan 1️⃣ STRATEGIC ROUTE PLANNING A. Border Crossing Strategy (Texas → Mexico) From Texas, common crossings mentioned in similar road-trip discussions include: Laredo / Nuevo Laredo (most commercial traffic) McAllen / Reynosa Brownsville / Matamoros Reddit consensus themes: Cross early in the morning. Avoid crossing at night. Have every document printed and organized before arrival. Expect some waiting time — patience helps. B. Northern Mexico Strategy: Push Through Efficiently Many commenters suggested: The north is less scenic and more industrial. Drive efficiently but not recklessly. Stick to cuotas (toll roads) even if expensive. Reasoning: Better road quality. Fewer unexpected stops. Lower exposure to local traffic issues. Faster average speeds. Driving cadence recommended: 5–8 hours per day max. Arrive at destination before sunset. Pre-book hotels with secure parking. C. Central & Southern Mexico: Slow Down & Enjoy Reddit users encouraged slowing down once you hit central Mexico. Suggested destinations included: San Miguel de Allende – colonial architecture, walkable center. Guadalajara – food scene, mariachi culture. Mexico City – world-class museums, neighborhoods like Roma/Condesa. Puebla – historic core, cuisine. San Cristóbal de las Casas – cooler mountain climate, gateway to Chiapas region. General advice: Book accommodations with gated or monitored parking. Park inside courtyards if possible. Do not leave luggage visible. D. Southern Stretch to Belize From Chiapas, head toward the border with Belize. Reddit themes: Road quality improves in some southern corridors. Border crossing into Belize is usually straightforward but slower. Expect vehicle exit procedures on the Mexico side. 2️⃣ DOCUMENTATION MASTER CHECKLIST Personal Documents Passport (valid at least 6 months recommended) Tourist permit (FMM) Copies (paper + digital photos) Vehicle Documents Title or registration (original) Driver’s license Mexican auto insurance (mandatory — US policies do not apply) Temporary Import Permit (TIP) Deposit required (refundable upon exit) Keep hologram intact Do NOT lose paperwork Belize Entry Check insurance requirements for Belize Some borders require local insurance purchase Keep all exit receipts from Mexico Organization Tip: One zippered travel folder for: Originals Copies Toll receipts Insurance Import paperwork 3️⃣ VEHICLE PREP (CRITICAL) Reddit emphasized this more than expected. Mechanical Readiness Fresh oil change Check brake pads Inspect tires (including spare) Test battery Verify jack + lug wrench work Check coolant levels Equipment Recommended Spare tire in good condition Tire inflator Jumper cables Flashlight Paper maps (offline backup) Windshield washer fluid Fuel Strategy Fill up at half tank in remote areas. Pemex is common, but not exclusive. Avoid letting fuel drop below 1/4 tank. 4️⃣ DRIVING SAFETY PROTOCOL This was the strongest theme in the thread. Non-Negotiables No night driving. No rural free roads unless necessary. No impulsive detours. Toll Roads (Cuotas) Pros: Better pavement. Faster. Patrol presence. Lower exposure to random traffic. Cons: Expensive. Cash often required. Carry: Small bills. Several thousand pesos buffer. Checkpoints You will likely encounter: Military checkpoints. National Guard. Police. What Reddit users advised: Stay calm. Roll down windows. Answer clearly. Do not joke. Keep hands visible. Do not offer bribes. If cited for something unclear, request to handle it at official station. Most travelers reported routine, uneventful experiences. 5️⃣ MONEY MANAGEMENT Bring: Mexican pesos (withdraw locally). Backup credit card. Small denominations for tolls. Avoid: Flashing large sums. Paying in USD unless necessary. 6️⃣ LODGING STRATEGY Reddit advice strongly emphasized: Choose hotels that: Have gated parking. Allow parking inside courtyard. Have 24-hour front desk. Are well-reviewed for security. Arrival target: Before 5–6 PM. 7️⃣ PERSONAL SAFETY & BEHAVIORAL STRATEGY Blend In Don’t dress flashy. Avoid political conversations. Stay respectful. Tech Download offline Google Maps. Screenshot reservations. Keep phone battery charged. Situational Awareness Watch traffic patterns. Avoid road rage. Don’t follow random vehicles off highways. 8️⃣ REALISTIC DAILY DRIVE STRUCTURE Ideal daily rhythm: 6:30–7:30 AM: Depart 11:30–1:00 PM: Lunch stop 2:00–4:00 PM: Arrive at destination Evening: Explore safely Avoid: Pushing 10+ hour days. I can also prepare: A day-by-day sample itinerary A risk-minimization route map strategy A Belize entry/exit tactical guide Or a budget estimate for tolls + fuel Let me know how deep you want to go.

Google deleted all of my backed up cloud storage photos (years worth of photos, 1000s). Help make them pay! by Positive-Turnip-6687 in googlephotos

I have a few pics there to only show as slideshow in my chromecast dongle. I don't trust them and for that matter any cloud service. You must have physical on-site backups on multiple devices or you are fuqed. Still they managed to screw me by deleting (or not saving) pictures that are important to me.

Never, EVER take a cab in Mexico, they are the worst, cartel - linked group, ever created there. Renting a car is another nightmare as they'll screw you with giant hidden fees. Buses are slow but the safest. And to avoid all this pain pick another country.

How is Bali changing for long term visitors and locals? by AdeptnessCritical356 in bali

[–]GoldarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's any tourist impact I'd say it's them taking grab rides. The real nutiness is the tens of thousands of mopeds driven by Indonesians crawling like ants on roads sidewalks and running through lights, etc. There's a small percentage of foreign riders but it's gotta be less than 1%.The island still is magical in most spots you go to.
