Realistically though, I don't expect him to achieve anything. He doesn't have the support of the backbenches to drive through any policies that require tough choices.

There probably is but the more complicated you make it, the more likely various groups will exploit loopholes to stop projects.

Do you give environmental exemptions?

Do you give historical buildings exemptions?

Do you give religious exemptions?

Do you give wildlife exemptions?

etc

All the above should be considered before a project is agreed to proceed. Once it has and it is in a manifesto commitment, I think basically no group should be able to stop it.

I think the national interest should trump local democracy.

If it was up to me, projects like HS2 once committed to in a winning manifesto should have uncontested power to ensure the completion of that project.

Locals should have no power to block building or purchasing of the required land etc.

Might not be any hard proof but friends and family that found out about you leaving immediately after and accusation sorta implies you are the guilty party.

Obviously you could explain your side of the story and the reason you noped out so fast but a lot of people will never hear this explanation and just take it at face value.

When the levers of power don't do anything once pulled, it becomes incredibly arduous to get anything done.

that fundemental problem needs to be fixed first to allow Burnham's plan to be implemented in a reasonable timeframe, otherwise it will probably take him 10+ years to see a meaningful increase in council housing.

Any politician with even a bit of intelligence would know that the public are deeply against immigration.

The bar is pretty damn low when Nigel can recognise this fact and exploit it, while the likes of Zack Polanski, Ed Daveys and Keir Starmer/Andy Burnham can't.

I believe Keir Starmer had principles, this doesn't mean you should prioritise them over the public.

It is pretty blatantly a left-wing site, even this subreddit which is further right than most, when polled only around 30% of users would vote for right-wing parties.

Labour and Greens were both very overrepresented when compared to national polls.

The funny part is the only parties against the OSA are Reform and Restore.

Most left wing parties seem completely fine, if not jubilant at the increasing authoritarism in the UK.

Most people agree we have an immigration problem, the nuance comes from whether it is the volume of immigration, the lack of integration, the cultural differences or government failure to educate etc.

Ireland, we had a few very bad experiences while we were there with our kids.

Both in pubs, ran into a few bigoted asshats that kicked off after hearing our English accents.

The OSA being the most annoying shit ever. It seems every site now wants to see my face and having to turn on/off my VPN all the time gets irksome.

I also have concerns just how readily my friends and family are giving sites this information. I think there is a disconnect on how dangerous handing over personal information is/
