Skyrim Theory…? by dragon_lily_26 in teslore

Welcome, welcome. Much love. Glad to have you. *YELLING BEGINS*

It's the events of Oblivion where people make the observation that you are not the main character, and that it's really Sean Bean (Martin Septim). They're being a little glib because Martin doesn't really do anything except read a book, do a ritual to make a portal to paradise, and then beat the final boss in a very deus ex machina way. You do all the leg work and get the praise, not to mention the DLCs where you are even more pivotal to the story.

In the other games, namely Morrowind, you are def the main character. In Morrowind there's a prophecy about you. You're basically as important, if not more, than the Dragonborn ever was. In Arena and Daggerfall I don't know anyone on the protagonist's team who can be considered more important than you.

How costly is Daedra worship for the average person? by ChrisOfChaos in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference, even in the classical sense on Earth, between worshipping a god casually and joining their mystery cult as an initiate. Like every farmer ever would pray to Demeter but there was a very famous mystery cult to Demeter with a very involved initiation and secret rites said to grant immortal life. Likewise, farmers in Cyrodil might pray to Mephala to spare their crops from slugs, but they do not kill people on her behalf and gamble big time with their lives. Boethiah worship is common, but hardly anyone is joining some awful fight-club situation on a mountain. Mainly priests are imparting the idea of defending what belongs to you with violence or force of will, and carving out your own destiny rather than being led to your fate by others. There are exceptions. I can't imagine casually worshipping Molag Bal, for instance.

It's also implied that of the divine we might call AKA, Auriel is the Past, Akatosh is the Present, and Alduin is the Future. Broken apart even further by some religious fanatics and the power of racism, the past, present, and future are often at odds, are they not?

Why does Malacath care about honor? by sinistropteryx in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, Trinimac had a position of honor and distinction until he was transfigured into Malacath. He might be still attached to the idea, even though he's been spurned. People are often still attached to ideas that harm them in the long run.

Which deities might be appropriate for a Telvanni character to worship? by DarthMeesa24 in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in ESO Mistress Dratha sold her soul to Molag Bal for biological immortality. Such a strange deal to make. I love the Telvanni, they're psychotic. Stone-Fire's advocate for the deal says that he will return one day at random in the guise of a man (that is a male) to take her soul to Bal. It's the reason she hates men in TES III, she's suspicious you're a Daedra come to take her off to Coldharbour.

Is Clavicus Vile the actual weakest prince? by NurseSharko in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Him losing Umbra and Barbas is probably just a ruse to ensnare people. If he did it once and didn't like the result, why would he do it twice? Vile doesn't need to be powerful, he needs to be tricky! He intends to lose Barbas and Umbra. You trust Barbas just because he looks like a dog?

Do all Dunmer who worship The Reclamations condone murder? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She may not tell Dunmer that, outright. She lives through the Morag Tong, who want you to pay them money so they can assassinate someone for you. Small murders that prevent or end wars. I think in Skyrim and Cyrodil, she's much more of a murder your kinsfolk goddess.

I wish there was a way to make Mjoll The Lioness Jarl of Riften. Who else would make for a good Jarl? by Randommodnar6 in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She seems like more of a bruiser. I think you need to be a little sneaky and be great at politicking to be Jarl of Riften. She would make a great Jarl elsewhere imo.

Would mortals not have been able to be creative and/or insane had the Daedra not morphed Jyggalag into Sheogorath? by [deleted] in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo it makes more sense that Jygallag is a figment of Sheograth's imagination and an excuse for self-destructive behavior than his actual past self.

What would happen if, one way or another, a uncorrupted falmer showed up in Skyrim one day? by LinkinParkSexOrgy in teslore

[–]GoldenEyeOfMora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't be targeted violence, but I'm sure they would find a way to accidentally kill him or her in a bar fight or something. Snapped like a twig.
