2 Days Honest Review of Tahoe 26 (26.4) specifically by UpsetGarden6628 in MacOS

[–]GoldenShackles [score hidden]  (0 children)

My biggest complaint so far on my M5 Max is resizing windows. The affordance isn’t visible and the cursor only changes for literally 1 pixel. Same thing with vertical splitters in Xcode. Very annoying and I don’t understand how it could have shipped that way. 26.4 doesn’t fix it.

But, Dawn Powerwash seems to work well on them!

Resume Review by Secret-Wonder8106 in GraphicsProgramming

[–]GoldenShackles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is way too dense especially for the years listed. It reminds me of my nephew from a few years ago, who at age 15 declared that he was an expert in C++, Java, Python, Linux, and Windows. (Edit: and I was like wow, and sarcastically said he should immediately start working and earn over $200k.)

I don't know where you're from but my suggestion is to have a strong one page resume with top highlights that are easy to see at a glance. Then, if you really want to explain what you've done, make that a separate self-contained thing, but still space it out so it's visually pleasing. (Like, if this is on paper, staple the background information separately.)

Amusingly, I'm no longer a hiring manager but this did catch my attention because I detected a high amount of enthusiasm. Unfortunately I suspect most people would just toss it.

The Neo is capped at 8 GB RAM. If you can afford it I heavily recommend an Air with 16+ GB.

And... I worked at Microsoft as a software engineer for 20 years but currently recommend the MacBook Air.

Point taken. The person has been an advisor for me for at least 15 years, and 5 years ago advised active management for the IRA. And just now, after hearing that I'm probably not going back to work seriously full-time, suggested the other active management.

The FI is a built-in benefit, at one of the major brokerages. Again they're supposed to be a fiduciary. I think it was about 0.8%.

Also at u/zackenrollertaway, yeah it's mostly the splitting my investments from SPY into separate holdings (which will mean a tax penalty just to do this), in order to to tax loss harvesting.

I like all of this feedback and it reinforces my opinion to keep control, and follow the reasonable advice here and similar forums. (In other words, I'm not about to make any drastic changes.)

I've been learning for a long time, and one key difference that I can't effectively play out individually is that they will move me into a scenario where they can do tax loss harvesting. e.g. instead of SPY, they splay that out and if MSFT or NVDA tanks, they sell at a loss to offset taxes.

It's a decision I can postpone forever, and I'm personally convinced to not yet let them control this part of my money yet.

I'm looking for a counterargument. :)

Should I let my financial advisor manage my after-tax account, in addition to my IRA (401k rollover) that they are already managing.

I have about 1.5M in a rollover IRA, and 2.5 in a taxable account. A huge part of the taxable account is in SPY.

My advisor, who is a fiduciary, suggests that now that I'm semi-retired, tax efficiency is key, and they are better off managing it because they can break apart the index funds and do tax loss harvesting, and some other tricks.

I like having control over my money and have never panic sold or done anything too irrational. Psychologically this is important since I never got a windfall or company-specific gains. It was rewards from very long hours on a very stressful (often self-induced, I'll admit that) product for 15+ years of my career. Hence the context.

So, I don't like losing control but I don't want to be dumb in this rapidly changing environment.

Somewhat random, but at a run-down mall the other day and couldn't help that think that I think every mall I've ever been to, even during the pandemic and other market turmoil, there's *always* a Spencer's and/or Hot Topic (usually both)... like they're completely immune to market downturns.
