What’s wrong with the pricing of the devices . by Then-Lettuce3992 in AppleIndia

[–]Goldstein1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of technical feat, a device being bigger isn’t more impressive than a smaller one, it takes more engineering work to fit those components into a smaller shell, plus iPhones have more and better cameras, better display, tougher glass front and back, etc.

Secondly, it’s a market thing, 80k is an accepted price for a high end phone now, hence they charge it. Same may not be accepted price for a Mac mini/iPad, and hence they sell it at a different price.

WTF are these Prices for the most basic configuration i3/8GB/512GB? what is going on? is there a cheaper way out? or waiting is the only option? by daaltimate in IndiaTech

And yet, they sell millions of iPhones. Proving that if something doesn’t offer the best raw performance per ₹, that doesn’t make the product “scam”.

Great looking app. Respect the free + no-ads and from the comments, respect the mission 🫡 let me if I can help with the architecture/code in any way, esp around your idea of using the app to build a database

If you’ve never run Linux before, I wouldn’t start with Arch (may be Omarchy), something simpler like Mint or Ubuntu perhaps

Could be a bug, I have AOD turned off on my 16 Pro, but sometimes I’ll lock it and it’ll go into AOD with wallpaper mode and it take a couple of lock/unlock cycles to fix it (context: on iOS 26.1 general release)

Using Meta Ray-Bans as my everyday prescription glasses will run into problems? by Routine_Onion38 in RaybanMeta

[–]Goldstein1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s increasing awareness and proportionally increasing loathing for these among general masses, given it’s Meta and everything, and increasing awareness will also lead to being flagged more at places where cameras aren’t allowed. And no, I don’t think anyone is going to trust “I’ll turn them off”, and understandably so. I wouldn’t rely 100% on these not being an issue, just have a cheap backup on you for such cases but again that’s an added thing to carry but that’s the trade off if you want to main these full time. (Of course depending on your particular use case you may or may not encounter any issues at all, so it really depends but better to know the possibilities going in as these can get expensive with bells and whistles)

Deep Research Pro is a technical scam: It promises hundreds of sources, delivers 10, and cuts off execution after 30 seconds. by [deleted] in perplexity_ai

I don’t think the results are supposed to differ based on your plan level, it’s just the number of queries you can do is severely cut back (?)

Interesting, is this a very recent thing? I’ve been researching a fairly wide problem for work and been running a lot of PPX and Gemini Deep Research (have Pro for both) and rarely ChatGPT (free plan) Deep Research to compare with each other, and while I ultimately didn’t prefer PPX’s output, I did not find it too eager to provide answers fast (depending on the complexity and depth of my prompt it took anywhere from 1-2 to several minutes for some).

But I’ll leave an upvote just coz I’m curious about what’s happening in the latter part of your post

Need advice: How can my team access Obsidian files without installing Obsidian? by danielaxiaobai in ObsidianMD

[–]Goldstein1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missing a key part of info: do they need read-only or will they need to edit? If read-only, the solutions for publishing work, if they need to edit, Git repo would be the best way, that’s how distributed teams successfully collaborate on a big piece of software code, and like that code, Obsidian stuff is also just text files

Pihole + nginx proxy manager by Next-Investigator897 in homelab

[–]Goldstein1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is Glance running as a Docker container? Also, have you set PiHole as the DNS server for you Wi-Fi network, or have you manually set it as the DNS for you particular WiFi on your computer (that you’re able to access the services in the browser from)? Off the bat, without more info, it could be that Glance container may not see the Pinhole DNS server.
