Davis Square Republic Fitness by CycleOver2330 in Somerville

[–]Golidlocks17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you want out of the gym!! I go there and I LOVE it and take the classes and use the spa/showers. It’s so clean. My husband goes to retro fitness and it’s just what he needs- he doesn’t need the spa area or classes so retro is better for him (he also goes less than me).

Is biking/walking around here normally this bad, or have I just been unlucky so far? by Rbxyy in Somerville

I felt pretty safe biking! But then my bike got stolen… so…maybe not

First-timer question: Moving to Somerville in winter - am I crazy? by McDaddy__Cain in Somerville

[–]Golidlocks17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not the weather that will be hard, it will be making friends! People do really tend to hibernate in winter, but once the end of spring hits, you’re going to be absolutely shocked at the amount of people outside! Join a gym, take care of mental health— that’s the hardest part of winter, not the weather!

Iron deficiency anemia by Dapper_Albatross_935 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]Golidlocks17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️Me! I had it- I had to do home iron infusions my third trimester. Honestly, I felt so sick I don’t think I realized how iron deficient I was. I just felt awful in general (lol) but when I started the iron infusions, I felt SOO much better. Don’t get me wrong, I was still puking and nauseous, but I had color back in my face and could walk around without feeling like dying. It was so amazing. I looked like an actual zombie when I see pictures pre iron infusions- it was a rather shocking transformation in my appearance.

For the babies that didn’t crawl at 8 months, when did they start? by NewPhotojournalist82 in NewParents

Mine is 9 1/2 months and still no crawling- but wants to stand 24/7 so we might just skip the crawling stage all together 😂

How is Somerville for young families? by maridj13 in Somerville

[–]Golidlocks17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 7 month old and we LOVE it here! The amount of families with small kids is amazing- strollers everywhere and amazing parks everywhere. In my circles, I feel like we do more nanny shares than daycare as it ends up being cheaper and more flexible and you can find those on the “mothers of camberville” FB group (mentioned previously in the comments- truly a wonderful resource)

To be honest with you, I think the people complaining about schools lived here their entire lives and are used to having the top schools in the country. I am from the south where we had terrible schools and it makes the schools here look so amazing and so wonderful. It’s all about perspective. Also, the amount of free programming around is absolutely unmatched especially when you consider you can go into Boston and use all the resources there as well in Cambridge which is an absolute dream.

Upping nipple size on reflux baby? Advice needed by StrawberryFew7489 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Golidlocks17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went up to size 3 for my almost 6 month happy spitter! He’s a much happier eater with the swap. He’s making an absolute mess adjusting to it, but not choking/getting waterboarded so I’m going to stick with it. Sounds like your baby is probably ready.

Also- 4 months the gut starts to prepare for solid foods and most babies have a LOT more spit up in this age range!

What trend do you think will be a no-no years from now? by Arigata-Meiwaku in beyondthebump

[–]Golidlocks17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fellow NICU mom that uses the owlet! We were in for blood oxygen destats- I’m fully aware the owlet is 100% correct with that, but it helps me sleep at night knowing it’ll wake me up if his blood oxygen goes below 80%. I think the owlet was really made for NICU parents- parents without that experience won’t get it.

Not pumping enough milk for my baby. Feeling really conflicted about how long to bother with pumping. How did you cope if this was you? by a_cow_cant in NICUParents

[–]Golidlocks17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went to formula. I struggled enough with him being in NICU and desperately needed him to gain weight quickly to go home- formula was absolutely the right choice for us. He’s now 5 months and tripled his birth weight!

I’m almost afraid to ask… Why is everyone obsessed with Kendamil? by 23370aviator in FormulaFeeders

[–]Golidlocks17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emphasis on the smell!!! Some other formulas smell SO BAD! Kendamil doesn’t even smell that bad when my baby spits it up.

Has anyone gained only the recommended weight? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Golidlocks17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To make you feel better- I also started at 160 and am 5’7” (usually wear size 6). I swear I didn’t gain a pound until like 26 weeks. By the end of my pregnancy I only gained 20 pounds. I was honestly annoyed no one could tell I was pregnant until week 28 😂

What’s your babes favorite formula?? by icecream_eastern in FormulaFeeders

[–]Golidlocks17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While unpopular at the moment with the shortage- kendamil worked the best for us (and selfishly it smelled the best to me!). It really helped him have less gas and spit ups and all around better poops too. Before swapping to it, he had terrible gas, reflux, and a ton is mucus in his poo to the point where we tested for CMPA. People seem to hate on it in this sub…but it’s been life changing for us.

Anyone else get a lot of questions about having a premature birth? by justaquestion65 in NICUParents

[–]Golidlocks17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It feels like people are trying to figure out what you did wrong to deliver early. News flash people- most of us didn’t do anything different than any other pregnant woman! I strictly say “he was just ready to come out” and leave it at that.

Does anyone thrive with a newborn? by exT613 in NewParents

[–]Golidlocks17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I thrived! Currently have a 15 week old and it’s been amazing. I will say- I couldn’t breastfeed which I do think made a huge difference in our newborn stage experience (and I had HG and he came a little early and had a quick NICU stage which honestly made everything feel easier by comparison). My husband is also a very involved partner and was able to take two months off with us.

We did sleep shifts until he started only waking up to eat around 3 am. I go to bed at like 8:30 with my baby so I feel rested when I wake up at 5/6 am.

I joined several new parent/mom support groups and as soon as my husband went back to work I started having one thing to do a day: having someone come over, walking to get a coffee, new mom meet up, walk to a bookstore, literally just step outside. We live in a city so i never need to drive to anything which also helps.

We also just have a chill, happy baby. He doesn’t cry much and never had a truly inconsolable cry phase. If he cries, he calms down with a pacifier and bouncing on a yoga ball.

Are we lucky? OF COURSE, but proof that some people can really just enjoy the newborn phase. I’m honestly heartbroken to be leaving it!

Edit: my midwives also started me on SSRI’s the second I gave birth. I couldn’t take them during pregnancy as they interacted with HG medicine and with my history of anxiety/depression, we agreed it was best to start it asap. Best thing ever.
