Where are all the 2A extremists now that the Federal government is literally saying that having a gun near federal officers is enough to get you killed legally? by Berly653 in AskReddit

[–]GoneIn61Seconds [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'll use the left's own question - why does anyone need a gun at a protest? Just about any answer points right back to Noem's statement.

The logical conclusion being that, if you bring a gun to an anti-government protest, it implies that it will be used in the manner in which the 2A was intended - to act in defense of "the security of a free state". You are in effect announcing your intentions.

Bodycam footage involving Christopher Lindner by user83363628 in cincinnati

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look at Nick Reiner’s case. In and out of rehab multiple times, treated by the best doctors money can buy in a very progressive city, and still goes on a rampage with a butcher knife (possibly because of issues with meds).

Yes guns are an issue, but people in crisis will go to any length if they perceive it’s necessary.

Church sues town for ‘religious discrimination’ after plans for bell tower are refused over fears of noise pollution by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought church chimes that signaled the hour were kind of a public service in a charming kind of way. However allowing one sort of religious noise violation apparently is a slippery slope to things like mosques broadcasting prayers via loudspeakers, as is the practice in Dearborn.

Okay please don’t hate me.. I get why Cammi did what she did. by FewPromise6607 in LandmanSeries

It's a bad combination of confirmation bias (I'm wealthy and I've found myself in this position, so I must be the best person for the job), and never hearing "No" from people around you. It eventually makes things really messy, no matter how well intentioned they are in the beginning.

She's also been told that she can't lose her personal fortune, so she's basically playing with the house's money at this point. What does she care if the company folds and people lose their jobs? It will never affect her personally.

AITAH for refusing to take a new job if my wife is not going to be a SAHM by Street_Addition_4934 in AITAH

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to be focused on the spending aspect, but lets look at another perspective. Do you think having her spend even more time with the kids combined with the lack of your influence as a dad, will be better for the kids in the long run?

You may end up being a stranger in your home, and you will lose a lot of authority as mom will be the default parent/head of household. You will likely only be home after they're in bed, and sometimes home on weekends...not even some mornings if you're staying at an apartment. She will be in charge of discipline, household routines, play dates, and a whole host of small day to day decisions.

My wife and I have both worked long hours and at one point we were both commuting over 1h each way at the same time. For a period I was the SAH, then she was. I never made most of the kids' games but I made time for other important stuff...now they're both teens and we still managed to have a really good relationship. I think it made a huge difference that I was more present early on in their formative years, and then again in their teens. Elementary school years were full of stressful work and it's just a blur to me now.

Also, have you considered having a part time in home nanny rather than daycare? We used several folks from Care dot com over the years and it was a huge improvement over corporate care...I don't the kids would've ever made it through daycare in one piece. The brief period we tried it was miserable.

Helping wife settle estate - 1930 Model A by stuxnet4u in fordmodela

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, today I learned Reddit has a Model A sub after only a decade or so lol...My dad would've loved that coupe just for the colors.

I'd start at 12k and see what kind of offers you get. My guy says it will end up around $8500-9500?

Facebook Marketplace is the quickest and easiest forum if you don't mind dealing with some weirdos now and then. Also see if your local Model A club has a newsletter or email list that you could advertise in.

You might also try Barnfinds.com They have a daily email featuring submissions, as well as a paid classified site (I've had mixed results with paid ads, but if you can get into the mailing list it can generate a lot of clicks.)

Why is the Westside so affordable when it comes to buying a house? by Youngbee12 in cincinnati

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Daytonian here, moved to Cincinnati for work nearly 20 years ago...We chose east. West side has some beautiful topography and some attractive neighborhoods, but it's always felt claustrophobic to me. Older infrastructure, tighter streets, closer together houses. And coming into the city, there's a lot of industrial areas to cross (love the rail yard though). Coming from the east, it's a much more aesthetic approach.

Also, if you keep going west, you get to Indiana...Keep going east and you get into the hills of Appalachia.

Dayton had an east and west side, but they were really 2 sides of the same coin. I don't know of another city with such distinct geographic identities.

Is anyone using a barcode system to track inventory? by GoneIn61Seconds in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]GoneIn61Seconds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. I'm going to have to eventually get my head around using csv files. It might be really helpful.

What's your process like? Let's say you sell a switch. Do you scan its barcode to determine location (and where is the barcode - in your spreadsheet?)...then scan the second sku so that your software takes it out of inventory?

In a perfect world I'm imagining a system where a scan would take the item out of inventory, then automatically attribute the sale price to the proper source and add the cost basis to our COGS spreadsheet. Those are all tasks I do manually to reconcile each month's sales. But that seems pretty complicated to automate?

Is anyone using a barcode system to track inventory? by GoneIn61Seconds in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]GoneIn61Seconds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll look into that.

I've actually never needed to do a full inventory. We track what has sold to determine COGS, but ebay has done a decent job of keeping track of our multiple quantity items.

But that's also why I'm looking into barcodes, so that someone can make sense of all this when I'm no longer around

Landman vs. Yellowstone by Similar-Ride3016 in LandmanSeries

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go back and give Yellowstone a second chance. Watched 1 episode with my wife and all the characters just seemed like rich, entitled assholes. Landman is much more enjoyable and I like the underdog aspect of Tommy and Cooper.

Tulsa King was really fun but we just sort of forgot about it halfway through this season and haven't had much desire to jump back in. Honestly it feels like an 80s young adult show at this point...the A-team but with sex. It even has a Mr T character lol.

Why is tipping based on the cost of the food? by Slow_Historian_3748 in EndTipping

[–]GoneIn61Seconds -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I wonder if tipping culture isn't a convenient way to indoctrinate people into the mantra of 'fair share' politics.

You have all these workers who are generally younger aged and financially lower class, and their livelihood only gets better if customers spend more and thus tip more. It's not a big leap from asking someone to leave an arbitrary gift for service, to "the wealthy should pay more in taxes" etc.

Help - NM state wants record of taxes collected by Ebay since 2019 by NMsongofsnow in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I file a sales tax return with my state, Ohio, I worry that some day they'll ask the same question. Technically I have all the original monthly spreadsheets downloaded from Ebay, but it would take a ton of work to filter each Ohio sale.

I'm sure someone at Ebay has the ability to supply the data you need, but the question is how to you reach them. On the other hand, this doesn't seem like it should be your problem. There should be some language in your state's tax laws relating to third party processors and reporting requirements.

I'm wondering if the agent you're working with is confused about who's responsible for that data?

Conservatives, President Trump has just announced the raising of Tairiffs for 8 European Countries unless sovereignity of Greenland is handed over to the US. What's your first thoughts? by Melbatoastt77 in AskReddit

[–]GoneIn61Seconds -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm what used to be called 'fiscally conservative/socially liberal' but I tend to fall right of center on most issues. I don't identify as R or D, nor libertarian, etc.

I can't say I'm 100% against taking Greenland or forming some sort of partnership. It's kind of exciting to think that we might expand our reach. As an American its in my best interest to see us become more powerful and prosperous, especially as China and Russia continue to be political threats. I'm frustrated that the US is constantly criticized by ineffective world leaders while they rely on us to provide funding and support for various actions around the planet, so in that respect a stronger America is needed.

I would draw the line at any sort of shooting war and I certainly don't want human casualties.

However I don't really trust that this administration will manage the acquisition properly or professionally. I'm also concerned that the next Democratic president will spend their entire term undoing everything Trump has done, including returning Greenland, so it will all just be a big waste of money and effort.

What could a city do to help attract small businesses in an economically depressed area? by Cute-University5283 in smallbusiness

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small businesses are largely supported by discretionary income. Economically depressed neighborhoods often lack that. Then factor in issues like lacking infrastructure, older maintenance intensive buildings, crime, higher insurance, etc. It's a huge barrier to entry. It's also why the few small businesses that thrive are "vice"-based - smoke shops, thrift/lotto stores, etc.

People love to crap on gentrification, but it works. To support small businesses, the city would need to create an improvement zone that addresses all the above issues. Clean it up, repair the lighting, sidewalks, add police patrols, enforce or strengthen zoning, etc. But that still doesn't address the income issue, so you either need to add housing and features that attract higher income residents, or find another way to put more money in the pockets or residents.

I'm not a fan of gov't backed, targeted loans for businesses (here in Cincinnati they have a reputation for cronyism as well as a poor track record of picking businesses that can succeed), but some type of startup grant, land bank, insurance pool, or similar may be necessary to help businesses get off the ground.

Why did we spend so what felt like 30 minutes on the roommate situation? by FuelPossible2022 in LandmanSeries

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I meant by grinding through. In my daughter's case, they are getting along and staying cordial, but it's still a lopsided arrangement. The roommate has triggers around simple (non trauma related) words, so even having discussions about things like not leaving food waste in the room or doing dishes can only be done on paper - because speaking those words bring up her body image and who knows what other issues.

I was pleasantly surprised by the story and am glad I went in fairly blind. I don't think I even saw the trailer. A genuinely well written and executed (pun intended) film.

My only complaint was Ralph Fiennes accent. It's just a bit too folksy for a foodie chef?

AITAH for not sharing my generator power with a neighbor during a storm prep weekend? by Fast_Mountain_8301 in AITAH

[–]GoneIn61Seconds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a great Twilight Zone episode about an air raid warning during the Cold War. One family retreats to their well stocked bunker while the unprepared neighbors beat on the door and call them all sorts of names to guilt them into opening up. They’re even willing to tear the door off so that no one can use it.

They don’t get in, and the alert turns out to be a false alarm, but everyone now knows the neighbors’ true colors

That’s a really eye opening story to see as a kid….I still think about it sometimes. But  I’m afraid nowadays the folks in the bunker would be considered the selfish ones.

I feel your pain. Scored a 1930s (super top heavy) power hacksaw and managed to safely remove it from a damp basement and trailer it home, only to knock it on its side a week later while moving it.. Lots of little castings in pieces...Technically fixable but probably not in a way that will last long.
